Prop 8 and Al Franken

Prop 8 being defeated and Al Franken (a real liberal) being elected would be icing on the the cake.
I think California screwed the pooch.

FUCKING MORMONS AND THAT BLACKWATER MOM!

Who ran the anti prop 8 campaign, MICHAEL DUKAKIS!?

Harvey Milk died for nothing.
I did my part for Franken, but it's still too close to call.
Who says if this thing passes it's going to stand? This shit is going back into the courts.

Fuck, I doubt I'll even get married.
I hope everyone who voted for Prop 8 dies.
I got an education today.

Walking by the Virgin MegaStore in downtown San Francisco, I watched three women staffing a "No on 8" booth get harassed by a pot bellied, bald middle aged white guy who screamed that they wanted "fuck each other up the ass all day!".

Thus proving that he had never actually seen a woman naked
post #8 of 478
You should have murdered him.

How does Califrnia who voted Obama and the Republican Gov. were against Prop 8 vote yes? Cali isn't that liberal.

Damn, Coleman winning with 63% in. Would love to see Franken speeches in the Senate.
We've got serious hicks in this state. Believe me.

It is very strange. I don't know if the yes faction got a huge influx of money late in the game or what but at least around here their propaganda was all over the place the last couple weeks. Way more than I had noticed before. Christ, on Monday they had banner ads on this site all day which was disappointing.

Seriously,

Fuck the Mormons who bankrolled Prop 8.

I wanted the culture war to be over. I am sick of it. Having California allow gay marriage would have been the beginning of the end of it.

Maybe once the Baby Boomers are all dead, gays might have civil rights.

As of 1:0 EST/10:00 PST:
It’s official; Florida has fallen. California is still standing — and the gap is beginning to close.

Arizona: Proposition 102: (Marriage Amendment)
Yes: 998,429 (56%) – Projected winner
No: 771,350 (44%)
91% of precincts reporting.

Arkansas: Initiative 1 (Gay Adoption Ban)
Yes: 475,310 (57%) – Projected winner
No: 356,953 (43%)
75% of precincts reporting.

California: Proposition 8 (Marriage Amendment)
Yes: 1,867,373 (53%)
No: 1,633,120 (47%)
24% of precincts reporting.

Florida: Amendment 2: (Marriage Amendment)
Yes: 4,589,831 (62%) – Projected winner
No: 2,800,945 (38%)
98% of precincts reporting.
* The Florida constitution requires 60% for an amendment to pass.

They will, I guarantee it.

Franken is down less than 4000 votes with 92% reporting. It looks like the precincts that have not reported may favor Franken. Clooooooose.
67% of people under 30 voted against prop 8, so at least that's encouraging.
I knew that this night couldn't be perfect. Fuck the bigots who helped pass Prop 8. I hope their intolerant asses get hit by trucks.
Holy fuck. I just got up to check some of the numbers and CNN has the Franken race by 73 votes with 94% reporting.
I really hope Franken loses, but I'm pulling for the Prop 8 opponents.

This automaticall updating thing is irritating. It's back up to 1500 votes.

Fuck Norm Coleman but I'm not shocked you'd be against Franken.
So, about a thousand Barkley supporters are gonna get beaten up.
I would think if it's under 2,000 a recount's on tap. But I know little of Minnesota. It is a strange and distant land of gophers, horrible NBA GM's and purple people eaters.
95% and a 1,395 vote difference...
Meanwhile, Alaska is using snow machines to bring their ballots to the capital for counting. Seriously, they have a population equivalent to my former block in Brooklyn. COUNT YOUR FRIGGIN VOTES!
I think there's still some potential once L.A.'s all in that Prop 8 will barely get put down, but I'm not having a lot of hope right now. And of course the record voter turn out means that they're not going to have all the results in until 4 am or something.
As an aside: Chambliss may be looking at a runoff in Dec. I didn't think that was possible earlier this evening.
Franken's got the lead!

edit: I don't really like Franken (I really have no opinion on him) but I despise Norm Coleman.
But fucking Michelle Bachman won. Go Al.
I'm telling ya...that 60 don't seem that far off base right now if a few things break.
I'm a tremendous fan of Al Franken as a satirist. He's actually fairly moderate politically. Still, not sure i would have voted for him in the primary, but going up against Norm Coleman it's a no brainer.
Now Franken up by 1,000+. Too bad Bachmann will try and get him kicked out for being unAmerican.
Minnesota's heading for a recount no matter who wins I would think.
Prop 8 is down to 52-48. In a perfect world, this wouldn't be close... but any NO would do.
Love that Al Franken is winning. Myk, he's a self-described liberal. You might find his positions moderate, but he's always had strong rhetoric.
The Repub's pundits were poo pooing the "disappointing" lack of coattailing on the Obama victory earlier on CNN but me thinks they may have spoke too soon when I look at Minnesota, Oregon and the fact that Chambliss might now need a runoff.

Even if Stevens wins I wonder if McConnell will stick to his little "pledge" knowing that it could potnetially give the Dems the filibuster proof majority.
I don't fucking get this prop 8 thing. I will never understand why people think it's ok to do this. It's starting to take the luster off this night for me.

Those Yes on 8 fucks were still out on the corner of westwood and santa monica tonight (you see, i live in the creepy shadow of the temple) when we drove by at about eight local time. If we weren't going 35, i don't imagine i would have stayed in the car.

fucking bigots.
(i told them as much, in so many words)

eta: that came off angry, huh?
With all the Mormon money pumping into Cali you know what's next don't you?

Shitty beer.

His positions are moderate. And he has described himself as moderate. See Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot... I think it's the chapter about Clinton being the Greatest President of the 20th Century.

His rhetoric is strong because satire is seldom limp.

At least you'll see fewer car accidents on Sundays.

Hm, I was more thinking about his Air America show which was much more ideological, and when he announced his candidacy, he talked about needing more liberals in the Senate. Could be wrong though. He does love the Clintons.
I'm a big Franken fan. RLiaBFI(aOO) introduced me to liberalism.
And I'll be damned if Stevens isn't going to pull it out in Alaska.

Since they answered the Palin question (state law requires a special election so she can't pull a La Follette and name herself as Senator while serving as a sitting Gov.) I'll be interested if McConnell lives up to his word.

Knowing what I know about Mitch....if he's looking at 60 or 59 seats in the Senate for Dems he'll choose 59 and sit Steven's ass while crowing about the "appeals process" Although it would be nice to see if McConnell actually has a spine.

Edit: Franken's down again by less than a 1,000

What did Mitch vow? He'd give the seat to the dems?
What's all this about McConnell, anyway?

ETA - Get off my wavelength, myk.

ETA II - Shit, 97% and Coleman's up 1,600 or so.

ETA III - Well, that's it. CNN just updated and Coleman's got something like a 3.5k vote lead.
