Unbelievable.

Wow. What are the "many other constitutional changes" "in numerous prior decisions" that supposedly justify this?

A lawyer friend pointed out that as much as this sucks, it doesn't matter, because do you really think this is going anywhere but the U.S. Supreme Court? I'm glad the ban isn't retroactive, but I also worry that taking it to the Supreme Court is going to give us a ruling nobody wants, especially with Roberts as Chief Justice.

Prop 13 is one. It's come up before. I can't say it enough. The initiative process badly needs to be reformed. You cannot have civil rights be put up to majority vote. It is complete fuckin nonsense.

What he says at the bottom of the article? Very true. Democrats need to take notice.

That I live in a nation where this isn't common fucking sense is sickening.

I'm beginning to doubt my even wanting to be one of the "We" with these people.

I've got to hand it to Olson. He got George Bush elected. Since he pulled that off, this will not be a problem.

The Illinois House is slated to vote on HB2234, a bill that provides the option of civil unions while also protecting religious rights. The final deadline is this 30th. They have pushed this back 3 times because Greg Harris, the bill's author, isn't sure he has all the votes. Many politicians are staying on the fence for as long as possible, as that is the safest place to be. If you are an Illinois resident, please call your representatives and ask them to support this bill.

This turkey's about done. You can expect to see Sen. Al Franken doing work by August.

Quote:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Republican Norm Coleman must pay Democrat Al Franken $94,783 to cover court costs for his appeal of Minnesota Senate election results.

A Ramsey County court administrator entered the judgment Wednesday. It results from the two-month trial that ended with Coleman 312 votes short of Franken.

Minnesota law required Coleman to cover some of Franken's court costs because the race's outcome didn't change. The judgment excludes Franken's attorney fees.

MN Supreme Court just declared Franken the winner. Let's see if Coleman really wants to go federal on this.
God, I hope not. As much as I think that Coleman has a legitimate point in some of his arguments, he really doesn't have enough to PROVE his case. It's time to bow out, Norm.

Gov. Pawlenty has already stated that he'd sign whatever election certificate got approved by the MN Supreme Court, regardless of who 'wins'.
Coleman was just on CNN congratulation Franken, so I think the fight is over.
That's confirmed, Richard. We're done.

So now we can get on with the really important things. Such as him, Al Franken.

You'll be glad you did.

Now I fully expect to him show up on Weekend Update and make refence to this. That being Senator Al Franken.

Of course I also expect there to be partying in the streets. Jesus H, Minnesota how did ya get through it?

Partying in the streets? God, I hope not. I still can't believe that we were forced to elect this consumate douchebag as our senator. Regardless of my feelings about the guy, I hope that he's able to be a part of the solution for this country and not merely add to the problems.

Can't wait to see the hissy fit Bill O'Reilly has in store tonight.

Between this and Madoff getting 150 years, been a good couple of days for justice.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying people like Franken. I'm just saying there should be partying in the streets because this entire ordeal is over.

Note that 30 (THIRTY!) Senators stood up for rapists. Guess the gender and the party.

McCain was one of the thirty.
I really hope the Dems sack up and hammer those Senators on that next election cycle.

As well as my Senator from Texas, John Cornyn. I'm calling his office up tomorrow. This should have been a unanimous vote. I guess some Republicans hate Al Franken more than they love their jobs (or wives/daughters/mistresses for that matter).

If they were smart they would do just that. There's really no spinning out of this especially after they went after Acorn like they did. Al Franken is so far impressing the shit out me as a Senator. Good job Minnesota. Just don't make it so fucking close the next time. Franken deserves nothing less than a landslide for what he did this week.
