I happened to really enjoy CONGO, when I read it. It had a rather interesting story and all told amounted to a rousing adventure. I'd have to say I count myself as a Chrichton fan, through some of his later works felt half hearted and by the numbers. I was saddened to learn of his passing, and his imaginative fiction will be missed
BTW: I would like to ask if people think CONGO is a racist book, or if the grey gorilla stuff can ever be viewed as pure science fiction outside of any potentially offensive racial context
For what it's worth I think the book is scary, and the story would work set on any other continent - except large apes exist only in Africa, and that definitely casts some of the story elements in a troubling context
I am a CONGO fan, but I am not sure I know what to think on this issue
(forgive the 'thread raising', but I wanted to post about this and didn't think I should start a separate thread, so I have determined this is the best way to go about it)
Kate, stop it.
There already is an active thread about books we read.
