CNN: Study links sexual content on TV to teen pregnancy

Youths who intend to have children early had a higher likelihood of getting pregnant or impregnating someone? Insightful!

Washington Post: Study Links Violent Video Games, Hostility

I don't believe everything I read, but as a video game producer, I can see that this "conclusive" and published evidence is going to be used as a weapon by certain groups. Seems like another excuse to blame something other than poor parenting. The TV is NOT a babysitter.

I agree with: "A healthy, normal, nonviolent child or adolescent who has no other risk factors for high aggression or violence is not going to become a school shooter simply because they play five hours or 10 hours a week of these violent video games."

This study's peer reviews offer some interesting rebuttals.

"The authors also fail to note that during the period in which violent video games became increasingly popular, youth violence has plummeted approximately 66% to levels not seen since the 1960s."

"Why are video games under such a microscope? There are a lot of football and hockey playing children out there that never play video games but are far more aggressive than any video game player."

I love these stories. Every time these surveys come up, they always, ALWAYS, gloss over the fact that maybe, just maybe, bad parenting might be the main reason little Johnny is laying down the law with Daddy's gun, as opposed to GTA.

Well, duh, because football and hockey (I mean come on, when was the last time a Canadian team won the cup?) are down right, good ol, reg'ler 'murican past-times! And in a not so snarky tone, they probably increase the chance of you getting laid, so therefore, must be better.

It's all about the parents. If you are raised right, no amount of violent or sex on TV can turn you "evil". But if you have shitty parents than being exposed to violence and sex on TV can fuck up your views on both, sure. Because no one is there to put it in context.

Sage advice, concurred by the president of No Ma'am.

These reports tell the truth

Just last week I played a game of Pacman in a Pizza joint, then punched a waiter in the face.

Well, the dude shouldn't have been blocking your way to the pizza. I mean, you had eaten the magic pellet, so you were invincible. He should've known to step off, or you were going to drop him.

Would have been a better story if you tried to eat him. Life imitates art!
