The Official 'I Hate Winter' Thread, 2008-2009 - Page 2

We ended up with over a foot. They closed part of Highway 83 between here and Bismarck (ND's capital about two hours from Minot where I am). Fargo? No snow at all, just ice from when it rained and then froze.

Fickle bitch that storm was, and hell of a first snowfall.
Man, winter is on. We had alot of snowfall last night, the heavy and clingy type.

The ice is gonna break!!

My street an hour ago, before I broke out the snowshovel.
Last night it got a little cool I either had to close my window or pull a second blanket over me. so I just reach over and pulled the second blanket over me. It better then it was last weekend. I hate Santa Annas, 80+ with really low humility.

I miss the winter terribly. I lived in NJ for 21 years, and moved to Tucson, AZ in 2001. It has snowed twice since I got here. Twice. It obviously didn't stick either time. Winter is my favourite season, by and large. It makes everything more beautiful, and when it's snowing, the whole town is dead silent, it's great. It also makes sleeping much more comfortable, because you can just pile on the thick blankets and burrow down and hibernate in your bed.

Thanks for the lovely pictures of Norway, Mr. Crowley. I'm 1/4 Norweigian and I've never been there, but those pictures alone be change that. I plan on someday seeing the four countries of my heritage (Scotland, Ireland, Denmark and Norway), but it has to be winter.
The first snow of the year is falling outside now. It's a slushy snow/rain mixture. Gonna get some coverage out of it though.

If it make you fill better Huntington Beach got a snow once back in the 80s. SO Cal hardly ever get snow below 4000 Ft. You have to go up in to the mountains for snow here.

Fuck winter, I'm itching to get out of Cleveland and move some place warm.

I would say move to Socal. it never really cool and only really hot a couple week of the year.

But if we go in to a depression and Gas prices go back up, you are looking at a real life Mad Max.

Winter may be cold but it is beautiful at times:

It's not so beautiful when you have to drive in it.

Maybe I'm just bitter because we just got dumped on; nearly 14 inches since last night, and it's still snowing. We have a winter storm advisory until midnight tonight Seriously, fuck winter and all it stands for.

Chris: you're getting what we got last night. Luckily for us, we only got around 3 inches of snow here in the Twin Cities, but traffic fucking SUCKED. My 45 minute commute to work became 3 hours of pure rage.

Thankfully the main roads were plowed, so getting to work was not a problem (wait, why am I thankful for that?). The fact that the side roads, including the ones surrounding the apartment complex where I live, were NOT plowed, thus leading me to get stuck on my way out of the parking lot...well, that was not so fun.

It's snowing in Austin right now. Earlier today it was 77 degrees.
Today wasn't that bad, the snow melted away, it was raining though.

From weather.com:
Yesterday it was -50 in some areas of my state Judas. This storm takes no hostages. It will just kick ass.

We have eight inches of snow, I think Bismarck ND had 15 and Fargo had...I want to say 17. I know Fargo got it the worst.

The cold is the part you need to be aware of though. It's going to get really windy with this so the wind chills are going to be nuts.

EDIT: Man, your weather forecast doesn't say anything about insane winds. That would be nice if those died off for you.
My first full on winter in Vancouver. As compared to the minus 30 weather and snow drifts of Edmonton, Van is nothing. We've had two tiny snowfalls that have melted the next day. It rarely gets worse than 0.

Jakespears: We've got the winds, but the blizzard passed us by. Didn't you pretty much get shut down in the Eastern part of your state yesterday?

Central and Northern Minnesota got the brunt of the snow...we just got the bitter cold. The wind is giving us the wind chill of around -50.

I haven't actually talked to my friends in the eastern part of the state but yeah, I hear it's a real mess.

That sounds like what happened here (Minot). We got some snow as I indicated but the worst of it seemed to happen everywhere but here as opposed to last time when we got hit the hardest in terms of snow accumulation.

That cold is rather potent though...

In Winnipeg we are experiencing a face-deforming windchill. With the privilege of still living with my parents, I just stopped coming in to my last (worst) job...how responsible. And the goddamn buses are up to thirty minutes late. Either that or they cancel one of their scheduled rides. Only in the winter. Of Winnipeg. Fuck them.

Being in MN today with no heat in my car fucking sucks.

Considering how shitty traffic was, I can only imagine how much that sucked. My 20 minute commute (under normal conditions) was turned into a ridiculous 1 hour and ten minute ordeal.
And oh yeah, you lose much of your bitching rights if you drive. Half the people I interact with daily spend up to five minutes outside per day and complain the loudest above all...
Yesterday it was in the low 40s. Today it's 3 degrees. I love Missouri.
It's 12 degrees. My entire driveway is ice. I hate the winter.

Texas has that beat: Yesterday it was sunny, clear blue skies, and a humidity free 75 degrees. It felt wonderful. I went out and laid by the pool in December.

Today: 33 degrees, raining, and cloud cover. We're getting ice tonight.
According to the Weather Channel's website, it is currently a sweltering 2 degrees here in the Frozen Tundra...though it feels like -21.

Fuck. Winter.
Here it's -28 "but feels like -41" as the weather dispatches remind us. I can be thankful, however, that wherever I go, it will never seem quite that bad (barring a hurricane/major storm/armageddon).

Suck it, winter! It was 60 degrees and sunny in NYC today.
Because of a snow storm, I now can't go play at the show I was set to perform at in Chicago. Goddammit!

And karma bites me in the ass. I awoke today excited for more spring weather and got pelted in the face with ice chunks. Been experiencing a huge snow storm all day.

My commute home from work today was 2 hours, 50 minutes. For those of you in MN, I had to drive from Mounds View to Eden Prairie in that killer rush hour that we had today.

Fuck Winter.
I'm working on a project down in Frank. It's usually a two hour drive from my door to the site. Today I left at 7 am and didn't get down there until after lunch due to poor road conditions. Then I got to drive all the way home after an hour of work because I'm guild and I can only work an eight hour day door-to-door or they pay me overtime.
yeah, what was supposed to be a day of maybe light snow has been pretty crappy here. Luckily I just finished up my classes yesterday and I work from home so I could avoid dealing with this crap.

Heat wave tomorrow! Highs in the 6's!
Very carefully entering thread to report my high temps for today and the rest of the week.

High in the low 80s. Man, winter sucks.

We MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY hit 10 F today....I'll believe it when I feel it. Tomorow, we supposedly have a high of 22F, but we're also gonna get dumped on with a few inches of snow. I can't wait to have another 3 hour commute tomorrow night.

HBarr, you're gonna get strung up before this winter is over with.
My girl was stuck on 94 today for 2+ hours thanks to a tanker that overturned. I fucking hate this state in winter. HATE.

It's practically balmy in Atlanta today. So weird. Looks wintry outside, and there's some drizzle, but it ain't cold. It was cold a few days ago, but I guess that air fled north.

Ditto WI winter.

And, HBarr, we will find you... just as soon as we put our scarves on.
Fun fact. It's so sunny outside I had to wear sunglasses to drive around the corner (and use AC). I was sweating (and we can't have that happening).

I'm sure I'll get my comeuppance sooner rather than later. I'm hearing rumors that I'll be attending a meeting in Beloit, Wisconsin sometime in February.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

Go get him, Zooey.
Hey, even when it's 0 degrees outside it can be quite sunny. Worse, it reflects up off the snow so it's doubly so. Sun has nothing to do with it being stupidly cold though.

Plus, I figure that if a bit of snow is what I have to deal with for the 3 months of perfection in the summer and no wildfires or earthquakes, I guess I can deal with that.

ETA: Beloit, WI is basically the armpit of Wisconsin. It's a crappy little town that straddles the IL/WI border and whose only redeeming quality is a tiny liberal arts college and a crappy music festival in the summer. So yeah, enjoy your time there if you get to go. It's about 40 minutes south of Madison and my brother went there for college so I'm pretty familiar with it.
