EGM's cover story next month. WATCHMEN videogame prequel, episodic, developed by Deadline Games (don't know 'em), scripted by Len Wein. From the blurb it sounds like Zack Snyder was closely involved too.

I think I speak for many when I say: *surprised emoticon*

Got the mag today.... pretty decent article. EGM's been really surprising with the actual journalism in it the last few months. But yeah, interviews with Gibbons, Snyder, and Wein.
I seem to recall this being semi-announced quite a few months ago, though only so far as the prequal starring Nite Owl and Rorschach bit.
Two words: Fuck. No.
I guess it was inevitable.

Ultimate geek property getting the ultimate geek treatment?

Colour me unenthusiastic.

After reading the EGM article, I'm more excited for this. I think they're taking the right tack by making it a prequel detailing some of the adventures alluded to in the book rather than adapting the book directly. Plus it looks pretty nice.

I know the article has been out for a few weeks now but if you want to read the article and have NOT read the original book, don't read the sidebar about the sabretooth skull. It gives away a big part of the climax.

What is the price point for this game? I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Is it going to be $20+ so they don't want anyone to know until the release date?
Sorry gravedigger. The game is hitting this wednesday- for 1600 points. Fuckin' hell!
Ouch.

1600 points? Yeesh, I still might have to get it, but man Gibbons and Wein are whores.
Any word on how long the playtime is? Twenty bucks isn't so bad if there's a decent play length.
Around the length of the movie, apparently. You can get an achivement/trophy for beating it in 80 minutes.
Oh well. I can wait for a potential future discount then. Thanks Alex.
Isn't that the same price as the GTA DLC?
Did you see how much they give you in that DLC?
Yea GTA DLC is 1600 points, I just bought 1600 points so I gotta decide which one I should get first.
For some strange reason I thought this game was gonna be an 8bit scrolling beat-em up. That trailer surprised me. It's a pretty good looking game for PSN/Live title.

Alex, has the game got any co-op functions at all? Or is it strictly singleplayer?

Might wait for some reviews first.
Offline co-op only! I'm trying to see about getting a review copy but I might've just shot myself in the foot. I'm interested in trying the demo, at the very least.
hey offline co-op is fine by me. Got plenty of good memories playing streets of rage 2 player.

Now lets see what the reviews make of this. 20 bucks U.S means 30 bucks Australian on psn, so the game better have gameplay coming out of its asshole otherwise its the price drop wait for me.
No online co-op and it's $20? I'd have a much easier time justifying it with online co-op, but even then, compared to what Lost and Damned gave us for the same money, I can't justify the purchase unless Alex tells us it revolutionizes the brawling genre.
I figured that's what the price was going to be. If it had online co-op I'd probably bite. For now, I'll wait for a sale or for someone to gift me some PSN monies.

There was a cell phone game announced awhile back that fits your description I believe.
Yep, thats how I got it in my head.

That was my point.

This is ridiculous pricing and anyone who buys it is mad.

It seems that the GTA 1V DLC has already spoiled us...a year ago, $20 for a 3-4 game would have seemed 'worth it'

I'll probably get this.....
$20 for 3-4 hours of gameplay has always been insane. The fact you don't get anything physical (something to resell) with your purchase just makes it even more difficult to swallow.

DLC is apparently meant to represent the future of gaming - if this is the basic price structure everyone's working to, i'm sticking with discs.
There might be a chance it's discounted around the DVD release. But, yeah, there's no way I can justify that price tag. It went from a must-buy to not-a-chance.
Isn't it supposed to kind of suck, too?
EDIT: Useless and retarded.

And I also love how interactive the enviroment can be in terms of the fighting. Say for example: you're near a steel pole, roundhouse kick an enemy and *bam* his face gruesomely smashes into it. Just so many great little touches like that. And my god those graphics! This game is absolutely gorgeous(though a bit dark and some screen-tearing),easily the best looking Arcade game yet, by far.And even a great looking regular 360 title at that.

Is it worth $20? In my opinion, after the impressions the demo gave me,fuck yes it is! This will be my first arcade purchase.I've been waiting for a really good next-gen Beat-'em-Up game, and this appears to be the answer for me.
This post just screams shill. I know you're probably not, but still.
I got a free code for it so I'll check it out. The no online co-op really doesn't matter because I don't see anyone actually buying this thing.

I know, I'm sorry about that man. But I'm just really psyched about it. Huge fan of the genre, so it's kinda hard for me to ease up on the hyperbole.
Pretty poor game, but I can't say I was especially bored with the demo. I don't need to spend any more time with it, though.

ETA: Splitfocus, the enemy AI is brain-dead and beyond that it doesn't do much to improve on the formula that Streets of Rage 2, a game available on the Marketplace for $5, pulled off excellently nearly two decades ago.
How is it poor?
The joystiq review was pretty brutal.

Indeed. That killed any passing interest I had in even checking out the demo.
I'm never gonna live down being excited(fucking shill talk!) for a game most people will probably hate. I dug the demo, I cant help it,sorry...

Just to back me up a little bit: http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3173076
post #41 of 54
Fuck, didn't realise Wilson and Haley had done the voices!

Just completed the demo. There's some pretty cool fighting animations and moves (well for Rorscach at least, didn't play through with Nite Owl) and the graphics are a hell of a lot better than what I were expecting, but I'm guessing its going to be highly repetitive. I don't know how many moves you can unlock (there's about 5 different combos in the demo) but it's not quite as shitty and button mashing as the Joystiq review suggests. But, it is very, very easy. I didn't come close to dying once. The enemies will occasionally counter or grab you, but it seems random as to when they will. Otherwise they just stand there.

I'm kind of fifty fifty about it really, only the price is putting me off. Especially as I haven't bought the Lost and the Damned yet, and that seems like a bit more content for the money.
I would definitely go for Lost and Damned instead of this. I'd get that but I dont own GTA4.
I'm playing the demo right now and this game is garbage. I like how there are maybe three character models for all the prisoners.

And hitting switches, really?

Cool to hear the voices and I would have liked to play a game with this concept, but not this game. Not a stupid brawler.
Boring. Just boring.
Yup. I shouldn't have said a fucking word about what I thought.

But bitching out and editing your post, especially after someone quoted it, isn't the way to go about it. That's more lame than liking the game, dude.
This is completely underwhelming. Are they really going to release more "episodes" of this? Certainly not at $20 a pop?
This game is complete fucking shit. I dig the production values (it does look and sound decent) but otherwise fuck off.
I'm just not seeing how its complete shit. The combat is oldschool and very simplistic sure, but there's certainly nothing broken about it. In fact, the combat is pretty fluid and well-done for what it is. Hitting switches is pretty fucking lame though, I'll give ya that-they should have not even thought about implementing that in. It's also not worth the $20 price tag. But I don't think it's godawful either, there are much, much worse arcade titles than this.
It's just a waste of a license. There's some really good writing and dialogue (from the demo I played) which pisses me off, cause I'd like to hear it and experience this story. Just not in this game. It's not even a good brawler, and like blunderbuss said when older games like Streets of Rage 2 do it better, why even bother?
