Have at it boys.
I'll get a rules thread up soon, then Judas can start the Chosen thread.

Schedules for Monday should be posted either this afternoon or tomorrow.
We could use a few more people (i'd like 25 personally) but 20 is more than enough really.
Dammit...Chud keeps telling me to insert another token if I want to continue.

Day one schedules up, Rules are the same as the previous drafts.

Any videogame is valid. From Arcades to PS3. Any console, any format, any media.

Expansion Packs are included in the original pick.
Boxed sets with multiple games are not allowed.
A Pick covers all formats of the same game (different consoles)

Monday to Friday, with Bonus Round next Monday

Any questions?
Have fun and try to be clever with your themes!

Man, i've got a bunch of quarters ready.
And my theme is kick ass. Anyone fucks with it and i'm eating your first born.
And i've been known to do it in the past!

Yes...

Tati, is that you in that picture above, about to devour the innocent child?
I tell you, deciding which one out of this franchise to pick was a harder choice than I've made in any draft.. maybe for lack of a JCVD deciding factor

There's a game with JCVD. I'm disappointed at you for not taking it first slot.

And Judas, that's me.

Fuck the obvious.

'Super Mario 3' was a huge game back in 1990. I was in college at that time and we had 3 Nintendos in my fraternity house. There were several games that ate up our time (I'm sure that many of those will appear), but 'Super Mario 3' was one of the biggies. I remember that, right when it came out, one of my really good friends bought it. He played it for a bit and then one of my other fraternity brothers borrowed it for the night. The next day, just before noon, he brought the game back...he had stayed up all night and finished the damn thing.

And Justin comes out swinging.
And yeah, SM3 is just perfect.

Yes I am. I'm old enough to actually remember 'Pong'. I remember seeing it in the arcades. We even had the home console game (like you see in 'Wall-E').

Tati, that's a GREAT picture.
How many miles did you have to trek out into the snow, uphill both ways, to get that?

Picking a Mario Bros for a video game draft might be painfully obvious, but it doesn't change the fact that it's one of the best platformers ever made with some really ingenius levels. Doom Ships, mini games, toad houses, Tanooki/Frog/Hammer Bro costumes, map screen.. it has it all.
By the way, Erix rarely post before Noon-1PM. We'll have to wait for him.
No argument, Trejo. That was on my list of picks. That was an incredibly fun and addictive game.

I am unfamiliar with Justin's pick.

Erix actually requested a pre-noon slot.
Snatcher is epic.
Are video games the antithesis of movies, wherein the sequals are usually superior to the originals?

Love SMB3 getting the early love.
It's all about Raccoon Mario.

To boil it down: Blade Runner The Point And Click Adventure Game, written and directed by the guy who made Metal Gear Solid, back when he could make his 20 minute talky sections worth sitting around for.

Awesome story, great sense of humor, characters you give a shit about, one of the best English voice dubs to this very day, and a soundtrack better than most movies.

Cheft, actually you are encouraged to go early if everyone in your previous group has gone.

And Yoshi's island might be my personal favorite of the franchise. It's just so clever and cute.
So now I'm a deflowered drafter..

And despite its full name (it was marketed as a SMWorld sequel), it really feels like a whole different game to me. And it's about the pinnacle of platform gaming, with about infinite replayability.
Only minus about Yoshi's Island is having to deal with Baby Mario screeching at me every time I lose his ass.
'Snatcher' sounds interesting. Was it strictly a Sega CD game or was it available on any other platforms?

Same here. The blend of platforming, exploring, collecting, puzzle and even shooter elements (the egg-throwing) is almost frighteningly perfect, and the game keeps on piling on new elements until the very end. It's one of the few platformers where I actually made a case of replaying levels until I got the full 100% completion score. It's simply a joy to play, over and over again.

Plus, it's got the best Nintend-elics EVER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX0pKxNHC_4

Can't go wrong with that.
I know the vehicle combat games get no love anymore but TM2 was the pinnacle of the genre and still ONE OF the most addictive and fun gameS I've played.

At that time, yes. It was one of the most fun things out there. Just pure adrenaline non stop action.
Then the franchise went to the shitter!

As far as the US is concerned, yeah, it was only on Sega CD.

Also, Twisted Metal 2 and one other sequel are the only two games in that series that matter.
Twisted Metal 3 was like Rob Zombie's Halloween.
I think that it was 'Twisted Metal 2' that I played, but I can't be sure of that. What was so bad about 3?

Sony took development duties away from the original developer and handed them over to 989 studios, who had to design the physics engine from the ground up. It played nothing like the TM2. I can't even remember a level after the first two or so, so I'm not sure I even bothered finishing it. It just felt...off.

ETA: And there was a lot of Rob Zombie music on the soundtrack, hence the Halloween reference.

Nordom is a fearsome cubic warrior!
Good call Minsky. That is one beautiful game.
Oh FUCK MINSKY!

Great great game. One of my favorite RPG.
I am SO glad I didn't sign up for this one. Already, I would have been outclassed. I've always been more of a passive gamer (only got really into consoles with the Master System and then again with the XBox), so a lot of these so far I don't even know.

But this is going to be a very interesting read from the sidelines, I hope.
Today is going to be rough. There are so many great games that really deserve a day one pick.

Nice one, Minsky.
Oh fuck you Justin. Fuck you in the ass you fucking fuck motherfuck... FUCK!

Snatcher was MINE. MINE!!!!!!! Best game on the Sega CD. The reason to buy that system and fuck them for never making a sequel. Actually fuck everyone who didn't make it into the smash hit it deserved to be so we could get a sequel.

I will never forgive you for this you prick!

"That was close... You're lucky I was here to save your skin."

I still play it even now.

Fuck you Justin.
I was working on a silly graphic for the eventual picks thread, and got sidetracked...

SMB3, greatest NES game in my book. (Karubi's shoe is the best goddamn weapon ever. Yeah you heard me!)

And River City Ransom, quite the gem.

Loved the cop car in Twisted Metal 2.
Okay, I think I understand, but only to a certain point.

We draft titles.
We make lists from those titles according to a theme.
Is there competition involved?
And with River City Ransom going so early, my theme has changed...

Shit.

Such a great game. Totally worth the download if you have a Wii, or purchase on the Advance/DS.
It's funny, had I participated in this list. All of the games I would have gone for would have been probbaly from 1998 or eariler because that was when I was REALLY into gaming.

Oh and River City Ransom, great music. There is another obscure NES game with great music that has yet to be picked.
Hell, most (if not all) of my picks will be from the 1970s/1980s. Fuck, I feel old.

Nexus that's just awesome.

ANd Ed, there's still time to join up. Same thing for Sackley!
