Superman: New Krypton

So far I give this DC event a B+. Its a story that takes place in the pages of Action Comics, Superman, and Supergirl. I would give it a solid A grade but Gary Frank only does the art in the Action Comics segments. The other artists are fine but they can't hold a candle to G.F. So far this is way better than Secret Invasion when it comes to big stories.

This, Batman RIP and In Blackest Night are events that have me almost excited about superhero comics again. No coincidence that Geoff Johns has his hands in two out of the three and they're both good.

And when I include In Blackest Night in the "both good", let's face it; it's going to be good.

Oh and I'm also looking forward to Flash: Rebirth. Once again Johns.

I'm liking the return of Sam Lane as a major villain.

Well, I won't grade it at all for now since its just barely begun...

It is a bally story though to unleash that many more superhumans on the planet...

interesting to see how it ends/changes the DCU status quo...

What I can't place is when the story is taking place. Pre or Post Final Crisis. It jumps around a lot in terms of what it's wanting to use.

But, I'm liking where they're going. My only beef is that Robinson is taking fucking forever to get going on Superman. When Gates can open solid on Supergirl, the bigger title should be doing better.

Still, there's always Johns on Action Comics. If he never left that book, I would die a happy reader.

ehhhhh assume post final crisis.

why?

Can't see how a whole assload of Kryptonians would feel about their new home being subjugated so fast.

Hasn't Morrison said that all the big non-Final Crisis events coming out at the same time as Final Crisis take place in the weeks and months leading up to it?

It's been said the New Krypton storyline takes place through the end of next year. It would seem pretty odd to have a story line that takes place before Final Crisis continue well on past it's end.

That starts the debate. There seems like there's three paths at DC. Johns, Morrison and everyone else.

Sure, they can retcon the differences away the same way they did for DC Countdown. Saying that the variations were caused by Darkseid's fall.

Having read Action 871, I'm still loving it. Especially the return of Nightwing and Flamebird. I can see how they fit in with the Post Final Crisis game plan. If Johns and Morrison are playing well together, it seems approriate that they choose to leave the Superman books in the New Silver Age.

the rumor is that's not the case no mo. Morrison is pissed that Didio asked for major rewrites on the final Final Crisis issue. The whole thing, from the final issue of 52, to right now, has been one huge fucking clusterfuck. I don't know how much blame should be dropped on Dan, but this is getting ridiculous.

I think pretty much all of it can be dropped on Didio. Morrison gave them a complete story of what he intended to do at the end of Final Crisis and now Didio wants Morrison to change what they agree to happen.

That and Robinson quit. Which isn't that bad of a thing.

When did Robinson quit? I think he's highly overrated, so I don't care, but I missed the news.

Rich Johnston announced yesterday under that faint "PLEASE DON'T SUE ME, DC" yellow light.

Apparently Robinson and DiDio kissed and made up.

Does make you wonder how the politics of DC are now. Seems like Johns is the only one not getting pissy at DiDio.

The interesting news about the non-breakup was they offered the writing duties of Superman to Mark Waid, who jumped at the chance, for the short time Robinson wasn't the writer. I can't imagine he's happy with Didio.
