CHUD Holiday Gift Exchange 2008

Has anyone started this yet? Given the economy I don't expect a repeat of last year's spectacular turnout but it's a fine tradition.

I'm in.

Adam Hall
USA (Minneapolis)
Will ship international
Looks like you are running it Hammerhead.

Count me in too. I love shopping for Chewers!

USA (NY, NY)
Will ship international, but would prefer US if possible.

Okay, I guess that makes me the runner unless someone with experience wants to take it on. Last year's guidelines seemed to work well:

As with prior years, we will go with a $10 minimum, anyone who wants to do more is welcome to do so.

As with all of these, please don't sign up unless you will actually participate.

Please give your handle or name and your country when signing up, and indicate if an international partner is OK or NOT OK with you. This will make my job easier, which I know is important to all of you.

Signup should look like this: (you can leave out "international" and just put OK / Not OK)
Thor Klippert

Actually, i might end up not being international at all. I have a close friend who is going to be in the States in a month. So i might arrange for him to receive the exchange locally and bring it. That has to make it easier, right?

Okay, seriously folks. Pick a lane: 'Yes' or 'No' on the international thing.

Tati, if you want to supply a Stateside mailing address to your giver that'll probably work out fine.
Well, when I say prefer US, I mean I'd rather keep it stateside, so I guess that puts a "no" on the international thing for me.

Apologies to all the fine Chewers overseas, but I can't justify payin' those exorbitant shipping fees. I ain't that generous.

Its not that difficult. You pair the international people together. If there is an odd person, you give the International OK or Maybe people numbers and pull one out of a hat. No big whoop.

I just don't want anyone getting stuck on the wrong side of a Maybe. Calming down now.

Amazon also isn't ONLY '.com'...and Play.com has free-shipping world-wide.
There are MANY ways around the international posting angle; unless you're trying to post a sculpture of Devin made from your own faecal-matter to someone in Australia...and even then I can find a cheapish 'liquid nitrogen-transport'.

Think outside the box/cryo-container!!

I see maybe as a soft yes rather than a definitive no. In any case, thanks for organizing this, particularly since I just nominated you. There's no need to stress over this. Its supposed to be a fun way to connect with Chewers.

One comment though. May I suggest giving a dealine for signup? Ideally, you'd want to give poeople enough time to go shopping and mail the package so that it gets to their respective person before the Holiday season starts. Perhaps close sign-up the week of Thanksgiving and post paired people's names on Dec. 1?
I thoroughly enjoyed last year's exchange.

Joshua Fein
Los Angeles, CA (USA)
Pro-International

Now not to derail but Tati I'm curious. Do you go by your full name or just get called "Santi" most of the time?
Everyone calls me Tati.
Really? I thought it was just an homage to the director of the same name.
No, and please let's stop derailing.
Tati is a very common nickname for people called Santiago
Santi = Tati.
Sorry for the derail there. My apologies.

And now back to the exchange.

I'm pulling out. After last week's long (5 day) hospital stay, I don't think I will be able to afford anything for a long time.
