Just noticed: my first pick JAK 3 is not on here yet. You can leave it off if it raped your manhood or anything but otherwise, can it come out & play too?

Continue to PM me links to freeware versions of the games in the Chosen List.

Tati provided the following link to some free games: http://www.squakenet.com/

InTheShadows provided a link to a dos emulator in the below post

- edited to fix the link -

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Set...tion_of_DosBox

But yea, it's a great, really simple to use DOS Emulator. I've personally been playing Commander Keen 4, Commander Keen 6, and Monster Bash all day today. I don't think they've been chosen, but I didn't participate in the draft, so not sure. I'm a sucker for old Apogee side scrollers. But I will be getting into Fallout and Full Throttle later on.

Edit Edit: If that list eventually gets links to all the great old PC Games, this will be my most visited thread. I will bookmark this shit.

Here are some links to the best emulators I know for the machines that are featured in our draft list. Up to you then, to seek out the games. I doubt you'd get into trouble for tracking down a C64 game from the eighties.

SNES: http://www.zsnes.com/ Runs (practically) any game perfectly on a decent pc. Also has a whole bunch of features, including nice graphic filters (for the non-purists) like Super Eagle, which smoothens out the blocky graphics.
SEGA GENESIS/CD/32X: http://gens.consolemul.com/index.shtml
COMMODORE 64: http://www.computerbrains.com/ccs64/ can be used as the real thing (64K ram system!), but also has a menu interface, so you can easily load programs & games, without the hassle of typing commands or waiting for the disk drive
ARCADE: http://www.mamedev.com/ but of course you know all that. MAME's an institution.

All of this is freeware (ccs64 is optional shareware, you can donate).
The SNES & SEGA are ready to go, for the ccs64 there's a bit of manual study involved, and it's best to be familiar with the original machine. MAME exists in many different versions, from command line to elaborate interfaces. Up to you if you find it worth the research to delve into.
And like I said: to find copies (called ROMS or in the case of C64: disk images) of games or programs to run, you're on your own.

Great work Judas... And all those emulator links are sure to be helpful. I have a Mac and already own pretty good emulators for consoles. But Mame for Mac is not that great yet and we also still need to find a good Sega CD/32X emulator. Hope someone comes up with that soon.

For all you Mac users, a pretty good place to get emulators is www.bannister.org and there are plenty of good rom sites on the net. My personal favorite is www.romhustler.net

Happy hunting. This draft was a blast. I will post this in the discussion thread also. Just in case.
