This movie is big, dumb fun. I really have nothing else to contribute to this discussion.

Hell yeah. I love the Fifth Element . Fuck the naysayers, it's a fun movie with just the right spirit and I think it's directed and edited exceptionally well.

It's a better Star Wars movie than any of the prequels.

Zorg is actually Dallas' boss, in one of the small details that I love about this movie. When you first meet Zorg he tells his aide to fire 1 million from his cab company, then later when Dallas gets fired, you can see that the piece of mail is from Zorg.

"Autowash."

It's a bit weird that Bruce Willis is arranged to look like Luc Besson in this film and that his character gets to fuck Milla Jovovich who Besson was fucking in real life.

Not a good film but a very fun one. It's got some of my favorite art direction of any film.

Yeah, I was just thinking that - by no means is 5E a "great" film, and it's even being "good" is probably debatable.

But it's so utterly fucking insane I can't help but love it.
Why isn't it good?

But hey, I like Phantom of the Paradise, so what do I know?

'I'll tell you what i do like though, a Killer. A died in the wool killer, cold blooded, clean, methodical and thorough. Now a real killer would have immediatly asked about the little red button'

great movie.

i need someone to tell me why I should dislike this film!

"It's light. Handle's adjustable for easy carrying, good for righties and lefties. Breaks down into four parts, undetectable by x-ray, ideal for quick, discreet interventions. A word on firepower. Titanium recharger, three thousand round clip with bursts of three to three hundred, and with the Replay button another Zorg invention it's even easier."

The way that Oldman carries that line is just classic! like a southern man trying to sell me a car.

edited to add my quote :-)

This is the one film where I completely disconnect all sorts of inner critic and dissociate from whatever people say. I love this movie. Nothing "guilty" about my pleasure in it. It's sort of like a favorite album/favorite song, more than actually watching a movie, I just have fun and some sort of nostalgia with it.

It helps I was fairly young when it was on cinema and I knew nothing of it till the day I saw it, so zero expectations were crushed.

And yeah, of course its beyond silly and dumb, but that's far far away from being a negative thing.

Things I love:
Khaled's Alech Taadi in the background of the Taxi scene.
The cheesiness of the way Bruce Willis says "perfect".
"You're fired!" by the Chinese flying restaurant.
"Aziz! Light"

I miss those days! when you had no idea what a movie was until trailer was viewed. I blame AICN and Star Wars.
For some strange, bizarre reason, this movie suddenly reminds me very much of a light hearted PREACHER. Just imagine Gary Oldman's character as a slightly-less-pissed-off Herr Starr and it's perfect.

"Commercial. COMMERCIAL! BZZZZZZT!!!"

I have the soundtrack to this flick, great stuff. At least if you're into avant-garde.

It's got Luc Besson's name on it. Unfortunately he's one of my weak-spots when it comes to directors. I can't help but enjoy anything the guy does.

Same.
Ultimately it's not a good movie but who gives a shit?
It's a film that has Milla wearing gaffer tape while she is surrounded by wicked art design.
Good enough for me.

Don't forget a little something called the Internet as well.

I miss those days as well.
So it's kind of a "turn your brain off" movie?

This movie is all kinds of awesome. One of my favorite scenes is as the Chinese restaurant flies away and it is an old Chinese Junk-type boat. That always trips me out as a cool little detail.

Plus.

Gary. Oldman.

I always enjoy the laser ball player in drag, who rolls pool balls to Bruce Willis instead of a gun. There is absolutely no reason for him to be in drag, yet he is anyway.
I'm on record in other threads for hating this film, but I will echo the sentiment made earlier that this is the best attempt at a 'Heavy Metal' movie.

I've tried to like this film, I really have. I fucking draw the line at the blue octopus opera singer, though.
It's a dumb dumb movie, but still is kinda fun. And yes, the visuals are worth watching it through.

And thread-wise, let me quote the sums of fucking Chris Tucker's dialog, not just from this movie, but all of them:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I always liked how Tucker ends up looking like a battered housewife.

Okay, I admit it. Kassovitz's snorting and dance after Willis pulls a pistol on him made me laugh hard.

"Nice hat."

I love the robbery attempt.

What's with the hate, people? Diva Plavalaguna died for you and you dare mock her? President Tiny Lister frowns upon you.

The moment I read your response, I could immediately hum it. You're totally right. But I still prefer the cue from Fifth Element despite the fact that I prefer Leon much more as a film.

Another bit of kookiness (or laziness). When Leeloo escapes the lab in which she was cloned from the ancient statue by jumping through the wall, why does the wall seem to have the thickness and strength of aluminum foil?

And why does Korben's mother's voice over the phone sound more like a bitter ex-wife? Hahahaha.

I don't actually want answers to any of these questions.

EDIT: Someone should totally make a Kassovitz-dancing animated gif.
I really need to watch this again, and soon! I think it might be the only SUPERBIT dvd I have... Anyway, I've always loved the hell out of this movie and it set me off on a path to always take notice of anything with Luc Besson's name on it, for better or worse. It's weird, it's wacky, it's hyper, it's funny... and it looks amazing. It's been a while since I've seen it. I'm gonna fix that.

I just kept notcing that in the future. Cigarettes are more filter than tobacco. I guess that means they are safer.

Oh, fuck it. You guys suck. I'm officially watching this instead of Hellboy 2.

Ah yeah. The multipass bitch. Good god Milla Jovovich is ugly. Keeps those straps on!

She's shaped like a little boy.
