On the Mormon thing...is there some sort of church-sanctioned proscription against adult Mormons seeing R-rated movies, or does Meyer just go that extra mile of crazy on her own?

EDIT: Nope, it's a church thing.
Meyer gives me hope that my unpublished story about a teenage werewolf who becomes a high school basketball sensation and has a best friend named Stiles and a girl that pines for him named Boof will get snapped up someday.

I would have to say a little of both.
Meyer once said that criticism of the anti feminist themes in her books is "a bunch of crap".

The imprinting theme alone disturbs me on a deeper level than anything else in the series. I didn't read those books, but it was all I could do not to squirm as my daughter explained "imprinting" to me, and I just can't imagine how repressed and frustrated Stephenie Meyer must be to inspire such a concept.

I'd rather Bella and Edward just fuck each other senseless, rather than this "staking claim on a toddler" business. There are worse things that teen sex.

I have to keep reminding myself that these books are the Flowers in the Attic for the new generation. These girls won't be scarred or scared of sex and childbirth or anything else. I hope.

On topic, I'm really dreading Friday and I can think of nothing worse than sitting in a theater full of squealing teens and their horny, climaxing mothers. At best, this can be a really fun, campy insta classic like Fright Night.

Or, it could be Eragon.
If only she had watched Goodfellas. All of this wouldn't have happened.
There was a Mormon girl in my high school who cried about having seen Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion only AFTER she found out it was an R-rated movie.

How much more arbitrary can you get?
I find the whole mess disturbingly fascinating, like I do with the wackier aspects of most fandoms.

Plus the crazy Twilight fandom has some real "gems" in it like the collective of fans known as TwiMoms, who can be a little obsessive and by a little I mean a whole hell of a lot obsessive.

And here's this young...woman? who takes to task fans who hated the final Twilight novel Breaking Dawn:

How can you act like this? After reading that AMAZING BOOK. Not shit! Not boring! Not glorified fanfiction. AMAZING BOOK. I'm going to say it real clear: AAAAMMMMMAAAAAAZZZZINNNGGGG BHOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHKKKKKKKK

And her reaction to the trailer.

Hmmm...well, they were looking for a way to get the male audience into the theater and by Jove I think you found it!

You're trying to tell me none of you had that same reaction watching the STAR TREK trailer?

Replace "Edward" with "Bones" and yes.

I'm still hoping for the 'Twilight'/'Left Behind' crossover.

with POD doing the sountrack.
My mother used to read those Left Behind books years ago. Some of the worst writing I ever laid eyes on. The best thing about it were the awesomely manly character names. BUCK WILLIAMS. RAYFORD STEELE. BRUCE BARNES.
It's still no John Everyman.
Oh god, you don't want to get started on the "Left Behind" books. Motherfuck those anti-Semitic pieces of shit.
Not just anti-Semitic. People of all faiths are suppose to worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
Yeah, but the Jews really get the screws turned to them in the series. Although I did like the part in the last book when Jesus comes back with the superpower of verbal evisceration and can flay non-believers and cows with a single word.
I've always loved how Christians proclaim their love for the Jewish people yet think they are completely foolish and wrong about their faith.
They don't love the Jews, they love Isreal, and you can't love Isreal without pretending to love the Jews. I'm not talking about all Christians here, just the extreme right-wing premillennial dispensationalist Rapture-lovin' Christians that write and read things like Left Behind.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. I had to turn the video off. I can't watch that. It makes me sad. Very, very sad.

Okay, I'm seriously a little disturbed.
Yeah, I don't mean all Christians. Just the crazies.

Thanks. I guffawed while right in the middle of a weekly review with someone and they sat across from me and stared for a very awkward ten seconds.
You read CHUD during weekly reviews with someone sitting right across from you? Bold, I tell you! And awesome.

So, he's Dark Willow from Season 6 of Buffy? Outstanding.
Man, now I want to read the book about Willow Jesus.
It's called Glorious Appearing, it's the one book with a white cover, and you can find all the good bits by flipping through it at a Borders. That's what I did.

Here's a selection from Wikipedia. This is what happens when Jesus opens his mouth:

Quote:
The riders not thrown leaped from their horses and tried to control them with the reins, but even as they struggled, their own flesh dissolved, their eyes melted, and their tongues disintegrated. As Rayford watched, the soldiers stood briefly as skeletons in now-baggy uniforms, then dropped in heaps of bones as the blinded horses continued to fume and rant and rave.

Seconds later the same plague afflicted the horses, their flesh and eyes and tongues melting away, leaving grotesque skeletons standing, before they too rattled to the pavement.
More passages of Willow Jesus's bad mojo here:

Jesus does that?
Yeah. Not Old School Jesus, new end-of-the-Rapture "Hello boys, I'm back!" Jesus. (And according to this series, the Rapture and Armageddon are not mutually exclusive. Armageddon doesn't happen until the thousand year reign is over.)

So...I've got to wait a thousand years for the good shit to happen?
Can't I convert to Bhahai or something like that?
I'm scared at how much traction this is getting here.
Are you sure that this entire book/film/tween thing isn't just some sick way of envoking the dead Anne Rice to write the next Vampire/Witch book?

No, there's plenty of good shit that happens before Armageddon. Basically, the timeline goes like this (according to the dudes who write the series/people who believe this shit):

Rapture
Tribulation (7 years of all the bad shit apparently prophecised in Revelation)/Rise of the Antichrist/Mark of the Beast, etc., etc.
Armageddon (I fact checked, Armageddon is the battle between the Antichrist and the followers of J.C. that happens before Jesus returns)
Armageddon is ended by the return of Christ
the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, lasting a thousand years
Final Battle between J.C. and Lucifer
Ascension into heaven, which I assume is the end of all things.

Anne Rice's a gigantic sellout whacko. She went from this Agnostic to Self flaggerating Born Again Christian. Shocked the hell out of her fans.

In fact she's writing her Christ Trilogy right now.
I think she just published a conversion autobiography, too.
Does he disintegrate folks in her books, too?
Anne Rice went back to conservative Catholicism, which is different than being traditionally born again.

Rice's still a sellout in my book.
Ugh. I'm trying, but it's very hard not to judge. At least she's happy.
I wish I could scrub 'Interview with the Vampire' from my mind for that year...shit, that was published in 1976??
Hell, I read it in 1983 and STILL preferred George R R Martin's 'Fevre Dream'.
Now THERE's a vampire story that FEELS like a vampire story.

I don't think so. I haven't really completed an Ann Rice book since her big Amazon meltdown for that Taltos book a couple of years back.
The closest I ever came to reading Anne Rice was reading her son Christopher Rice. Not bad really. But his third book sucks. Saw the guy speak once. It was nice.
UGH. This fucking Twilight shit is going to drive me nuts. On my walk during my lunch break, I saw a ton of discarded Twilight fansigns all over the street on one stretch of road.

I should have picked one up and taken it with me so that I could pull a Daniel Pearl on it and Nick could include the YouTube clip in his next "Fuck This Face" installment, but I didn't want to get beaten up by people with taste.

And then my co-workers walked out talking about the books. I had to suppress a hateful cackle.

I am literally laughing out loud right now, and I just sent it to all of my Twatlight friends with the header, "This can be you. Slow your roll."
huh. Didn't hate it. So much of the love story is incredibly stupid, and the bad Meyers dialogue shines like a beacon, but I liked the father/daughter interplay.
