Well, even I was thinking Yoda as I typed... so, yeah. Also, we're now onto page 10 of the Twilight thread. I'm amongst good people here.

And they say hate doesn't bring people together.

I'm discovering that a lot of blame on how the movie turned out for disappointed fans is landing on pretty much just Stewart and Hardwicke's shoulders. I find this hilarious, because they're definitely projecting Edward onto Pattinson and imagining he could do no wrong while he played the character as obnoxious as possible.

The fans don't like the flick? I thought they were turning tween cartwheels. And horny mom tween mom's have no life - imagine better life - romance novel in one hand, diet Coke is another. SUV. Drive to grocery, read all four books as they troll the isles no taste fat and wear velvet track suits dreams of pattinson combing their hair with original songs.

We've all seen the Chewervision 2D thread, right? If there's one thing that the internet has provided us, it's the staggering realization that an interesting person with a strong personality just might not be an Adonis or Aphrodite.

Not to mention, outside of the fact that using Twilight as a dating opportunity is slightly weird and juvenile, it's a pretty well written and personable ad by Craigslist standards.

So... no older than "two years younger than me" need apply.

A segment doesn't. The ones who are above 14, it seems. They constantly are jabbering about how they "massacred the book" and how they "cut out the relationships" and how Stewart "never acted like she really loved Edward".

But never a fucking word about Pattinson giving the "Brando farted" look any scene that isn't him and Stewart sans special effects (these are the only scenes in the movie that really work, because they just play off each other - then one of them says a horrible line from the book and ruins it, but up to that point, they're handling it pretty well). I mean, the guy was actively trying to make the character suck, he's admitted it.

The bigger irony is that by sticking to the book as much as they did, they certainly sunk any chance of the film being good. If this thing was handled like Spielberg and The Lost World - "hey, fuck you, Mike. I'm gonna do my own thing" - it could've turned out good.

This thread may have succeeded in getting me to watch the movie. Is it as really funny as everyone is making it out to be or am I going to be disappointed?

Mileage may vary, but the first minute of the film features both CG Robert Pattinson tackling a deer like a linebacker and Kristen Stewart looking forlorn at a baby cactus. As back-to-back shots.
I got to imagine the cactus was probably the best part of the movie.

This movie sounds hilarious. Maybe I'll catch it on Netflix & enjoy the silliness far from the screaming hordes, so I can snark on it as loud as I want.

What's interesting to me about Twilight is that it has (probably unknowingly) captured what Bram Stoker's Victorian-era novel really was about - the specter of sexual lust. I'm pretty loathe to see the movie (though my daughter's friends were cackling about it all weekend and gazing longingly out windows), but I might have to check it out to see if my theory holds.

The Tweens must have attacked her when she laughed at one of Pattinson's "I just crapped my pants" expressions.

I just hope the Tweens decided to spare her life, and she's merely recovering from her injuries in a Hospital.

Y'know, I don't think I'll ever forgive this movie for making Nina from 24 look so unappealing in that extreme close-up at the end.
That was Nina's punishment for killing Bauer's wife.

P.S. - My name for Edward, given his down syndrome scene, is now Special Ed.

So, I read the book summaries in wikipedia. I don't think I've laughed quite this loud in a while.

Jacob, angry at Bella's decision to become a vampire, runs away in his wolf form to escape the pain he feels. Holy shit. That would be the most hilarious line in wikipedia, except for: In Breaking Dawn, Jacob finds his soul-mate in Bella and Edward's baby daughter Renesmee, thus ridding him of his heartache for Bella. Outstanding.

I just might end up watching this movie one day.

Yeah, Breaking Dawn will be a batshit insane movie for the first half, until you realize that, once again, there's no actual conflict because the bad vampires go to take the baby, go "awwwwww, ain't she precious?" and turn and leave.

I do think (hope) that Summit realizes the rest of the books suck and hire someone crazy to actually direct the next movies, so we somehow end up with something like "David Lynch's New Moon".
Oh man Wolcott. That was hysterical.
My friend and I laughed our asses off at this. We just imagined substituting all of the girl's voice over narration with Werner Herzog. Even adding in a few of our own.

"Only now does she realize that living an ordinary life with her normal friends would've been the wiser way to go."

Random, but I've been banned elsewhere for voicing how much I hate this film.

I read on DarkHorizons that the two leads got paid 2 million bucks EACH for the first movie? and now they are getting 12 fucking million bucks for the second one??

How on earth is this possible?

Because people are strictly seeing this for the Bella/Edward relationship? Fuck, if I had to go and make New Moon (Presents! Paper cuts! Basejumping! Emo suicide thoughts! AND THE VAMPIRE VATICAN! COMING FALL 2010), I'd ask for ten more million too. Especially while the studio's willing to give it to me because I'm a lead in a huge fucking cash cow.

Something about a deal like that going down makes me think their weekday/holiday numbers are going to be really good.

Although this makes me wonder how much they paid Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz for Brothers Bloom.

Yes, but these guys were NO ONE before the movie hit, how in the hell they get a 2 million contract EACH? and why weren't they signed for multiple films (which i'm sure they were) with a set paycheck kept more in line?
The more I think about it, the more disturbed I am by it. That scene in the hospital bed...

"I should leave you so you won't get hurt."
"What what what what what no no no no shut up don't ever say that no no no no what don't ever ever ever say that!"
"...okay."

Given Stewart's career trajectory (start with a David Fincher movie with Jodie Foster, continue to critical adulation in a Showtime movie and score a role in Jon Favreau's follow-up to Elf, and then be personally called by Sean Penn for a role in Into The Wild), $2 million seems reasonable, especially since she probably had a few other offers for bigger movies from bigger studios that were paying just a little less. I wouldn't be surprised if Pattinson got paid more on Goblet of Fire, either, given the huge budgets of Potter films and WB's willingness to hand out money.

Also, never underestimate a good agent. Or having a movie gross double the production budget in three days.

I liked the fact that two guys went in thinking it was a horror film and were disappointed there were no teenage girls getting their heads chopped off.
It's a PG-13 movie. Even if it was a horror movie, it more than likely wouldn't have any cool kills in it.
