She ain't alone.

London, November 6: : Following the historic victory of Barack Obama in the US Presidential elections, Daniel Craig says the world should be prepared to see a ‘coloured 007’.

The 40-year-old, who was himself the target of much criticism for being the first ‘blonde Bond’, humoured the idea at a press conference before the Italian premier of his latest Bond film, ‘Quantum of Solace’.

“After Barack Obama''s victory I think we might have reached the moment for a coloured 007,” the ‘Telegraph’ quoted him as telling the Agi news agency.

Menounos: Obviously, Proposition 8 didn't pass and a lot of people were upset about that.

Obviously.
I'm sorry if this comes out as inappropriate, but language wise i really don't know. It's a racist term?
I'm surprised she didn't go all out and call him mulatto.
A little. It's outdated.
"of color" still gets used a lot though. How does that work exactly? Someone should make a list.
She's dumb but cute.

Only by the Upson Pratts of the world.
This is something to get excited about?
She looks like she's reaching her late 30s.
We would expect anything less from her at this point...?

I guess she could make amends for the gaffe by donating to the NAACP.

Good question. Racist? Probably. Offensive? Extremly.

She could also cut off her little finger and beg for forgiveness.

You're an idiot.
Huh. Why does this give me flashbacks to Deadwood's Nigger General character?
So...that's a "No!" to her showing up on Crash?
Could you call a dead horse "colored" after beating it and then molesting the corpse?

You should see her younger sister. The Lohan girls age like moldy bread.

It's not the years, Cap. It's the mileage.
It sounds nothing like "colored president" to my ears, but then I have no idea what else it could be.

Oh my God, yes. That girl is, what, 14? She looks older than me, and I'm 22.

Also, the "u" makes it less racist.

I think it's a little more complicated than that. Racist? Often. Offensive? Yes. However, depending on context people can be fairly forgiving of the use of "colored" in place of "people of color". In my group of friends, at least, if the person was saying something positive and clearly didn't mean to use an offensive term, they'll be politely corrected and festivities carry on sans tension. And people do still sometimes say "people of color" to refer to a group that is not white and not exclusively black.

Race is such a touchy issue in the US. "People of color" is not used very much but it is PC, but "colored", which means the same thing and is easier to fit into a sentence, is quite offensive. I think it's because the term brings to mind some old white racist in the deep South saying things along the lines of "We don't want them coloreds 'round here messing everything up." And yes, there really are people like that around here.

So anyway, if Lindsay really did say "colored" (I couldn't really tell) she should have known better and I hope somebody politely corrects her so she'll be more aware in the future. One less celebrity making all of us white people look like assholes can only be a good thing, right?

Honestly, I find it more odd than offensive that she used such an anachronism, as I don't think she was ever tucked in by a mammy or took a buckshot to a dastardly carpetbagger. I'm not that much older than her and irrespective of its potential to insult, that's not exactly a term that's just sitting around in my mental rolodex.

It may seem like a thin hair to split given the similar phrasing, but the terms "colored" and "person of color" actually have significantly different meanings. The former is a previously common, now offensive, term for African-Americans, specifically, and the latter is a generally inoffensive blanket term for non-caucasians.

I'd have to think that the similarity in construction presents substantial problems for non-inhabitants of the U.S., particularly those for whom English isn't a first language. After all, "person of color" and "colored person" probably translate to the exact same phrase in most languages.

Can we expect (at least) four more years of this stupid kind of bullshit? Lohan isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and I doubt she knows the difference between 'Colored' and 'Person of Color' (well, she does now.) While it's an unfortunate choice of words, we know what she meant, and to crucify her over it is kind of ridiculous.

But now that she's properly educated, if she says it again, we can then crucify her.

Agreed. Like I said, the two terms have very different meanings, but the construction is very similar, so she probably just switched them. From the context, it's pretty clear that she wasn't intending to make a racist comment.

Do you know how many CHUD stalkers you're going to net by being so effin' upbeat?

Yeah, "colored" is ignorant and inappropriate, but it's not really hateful or even malicious. But when someone calls Mrs. O a "negress", look out.

You know Dave, (tongue firmly in cheek here) I wonder sometimes if you aren't really a Gay, Black-American hermaphrodite.

Aside from the appropriateness of the term, I just find it funny that Lindsay is talking like an eighty-year old southerner. The term is quite outdated.

I prefer "queer she-male of color," thank you very much.

I was under the impression that colored/coloured is the appropriate term.

Beside all the semantics here can someone enlighten me which term would be the political correct term of the day that is not outdated?

Well since Obama calls himself black, that would suffice.
I think "black" is fine. "A black", less so. But my favorite is when someone calls a black person who isn't from the US "African-American".

African American, since he's from America.

Or Darkie. Or jigaboo. Or half and half.
Schwartze would be fine actually. Though "Farbige" (colored) is quite en vogue as well.

Though there are people trying to be over-PC calling blacks (see, I can adapt Diva) Afro-Americans in Germany. Now that is beyond stupid.

The problem with calling all black people African-American is that not all come from Africa nor are American. In NYC, I know a number of black people from the Caribbean who dislike being called African-American because it discounts their heritage.
Yeah but they're all from Africa in the first place. There were no blacks in the Caribbean 500 years ago.
And since all of humanity descended from Africa in the first place I am declaring myself Afro-European now.

Umm....

Edit: Missed what Devin said.

Not saying it isn't true, but that's debatable.

A black guy went nuclear in one of my college classes when someone referred to Charlize Theron as African-American. We explained that she was born in Africa, but he said she had no right to the title.

I've also heard Seal and Chiwetel Ejiofor referred to as African-American.
