Favorite Racial Slurs

Let's keep this even handed in hatred of all races, across all color barriers. I'm gonna get some shit for this.

Here's the Racial Slur Database if you need some new ideas.

Kraut, Latrino, Maize-Muncher (thatsa me), Maple Sucker

One I didn't know existed...

CHUD - Blacks - From the monster movie "C.H.U.D.", starring primitive dark creatures that lived in sewers

I like 'cracker', myself.
Damn. "Bar Code" is fucking rough.
For my money, you just don't hear "honky" enough these days.

God, I miss George Jefferson.
I once heard Native Americans referred to as "Wagon Burners" by a caller to the O & A show. I forget what state he was from. That has yet to be topped for creativity, IMO.

Edited to add: I see "Wagon Burner" made the Database. I'm also happy to see "Clay Eater" on there. My friends and I used that term to describe hicks or white trash types for years, and I never heard anyone else use it. Nice to have it "validated".
I've been called a Nazi a bunch of times (doesn't help that I'm German) for my barcode tattoo.

I've always been partial to honky as well.
"I can't think of anything worse than 'Belgian'" - Monty Python.

51st Stater? Maple-sucker? Never heard of these. And only Yanks use 'canuck'. To everyone else, a Canuck is someone who plays hockey for Vancouver.
Nerf Herder.

eta - Seabass, I believe the full usage was 'miserable fat Belgian bastards', but I could be wrong.
This would work so much better as a draft.

Well now, the result of last week's competition when we asked you to find a derogatory term for the Belgians. Well, the response was enormous and we took quite a long time sorting out the winners. There were some very clever entries. Mrs Hatred of Leicester Said "let's not call them anything, let's just ignore them" ... (applause starts vigorously, but he holds his hands up for silence) ... and a Mr St John of Huntingdon said he couldn't think of anything more derogatory than Belgians. (cheers and applause) But in the end we settled on three choices: number three ... the Sprouts, sent in by Mrs Vicious of Hastings... very nice ; number two..... the Phlegms from Mrs Childmolester of Worthing; but the winner was undoubtedly from Mrs No-Supper-For-You from Norwood in Lancashire... Miserable Fat Belgian Bastards!

Edit: Seabass beat me to it.

'Bung' - Australians
'Christ Killer' - Jews
'Dago' - Italians
'Frog' - Frenchies
'Jigaboo' - Black person on crack

Nothing really beats the classics. Kike, Spick, WOP, etc.

And this would be a great draft, alas, I would have to fit it into a timeslot for sometime next year.

And not really a racial slur, but there's something about 'Coontang' that makes me laugh.

Not in Huntingdon it isn't!

Is this an ok to be Racist Zone? I’m confused, is it my favorite slurs to use or my favorite as it relates to the person I’m slurring? Or slurs that are just funny because racist people, who are not me!!, use them?

For my money Coon is pretty funny. But have I ever been called or called anyone a Coon, I don’t think so. So yeah, it’s funny.

The point of a Racial Slur is to disparage a person based on their race. Intent and context as well as the under lying malice is what makes the slur hurtful. This is why it always cracks me up when someone bring up Cracker or Honky.
We have a lot of Mexicans working in local factorys here. So the term "beaner" is used quite frequently.

Mostly by lazy white people that are too lazy to work, complaining the "beaners" take all the good jobs.

I second that, along with Whitey. There isn't a day that doesn't go by where I don't blame something on Whitey.

Oh and I guess to my own ethnicity (Even though being Jewish is a religion and not an ethnicity). Heeb would do it.

And I've called myself Queer but that's my own deal.

We have a suburb in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area called (I shit you not) Coon Rapids. Southern people have usually found that name to be amusing.

I can imagine.

I think this thread is a thinly veiled excuse for people to be ironic racists. Which, in fact, is racist. Also, it seems like most of you want to come in here and act nonchalant about it, because you think you're above that sort of thing and you're only discussing it in way that isn't filled with hate. Notice how twenty posts in to a thread about racial slurs nobody's mentioned "Nigger". But, then again I don't know what this thread is supposed to represent, but if you want to throw around racist terms, at least have the balls to use the big one.
Racism isn't funny because it's actually funny, it's funny because of the idea that someone would have the balls to joke about it. So no, being an ironic racist doesn't make you a racist just like laughing at a 9/11 joke doesn't make you a terrorist sympathizer. This is the year 2008. They are just words. Jesus, America.

-said the late-20s, middle-class white fella
post #24 of 81
And no one has said nigger because there are a couple dozen others that are funnier, not because they are fearful of internet message board backlash.

Eric, your missing the point. The fact that we can joke about these things shows progress. We're belittling them by joking about them. People didn't joke about these things 30 years ago, they said them seriously. And honestly, I find them humorous in the odd way that some of them are pretty inventive and a based on skewed viewpoints of history. Their wrong, but there's no reason we can't look at it and laugh. Shit, I'm Irish/Native American, split down the middle with a little Cuban on the side.

And I've been to plenty of parties with both black and white people where we can joke about these things. To me, that's amazing.
But that is the point, this is for "Your Favorite Slurs!" Shouldn't your favorite be the one that is filled with the most hate.

Let's argue semantics. Should I have named the thread "The Racial Slur Thread?" This thought actually crossed my mind after I posted it, but I can't change it now.

Whateva. I'm 50% Nit, a Pow Wow. I just don't find offense in them anymore.
It is not semantics. It's an excuse for saying things that you'd not normally say, at least in front of other people.

It's not like this thread has been full of insightful discussion about the slurs, it's basicaly a draft of hateful terms. Context.

Suppose so.

But really, so what?
You know why black people call us Honky?

Because it's the last thing we hear before they run us over.

Is this thing on...?
Actually I remember hearing from some story on NPR that "Honkey" was actually from a derrogatory word against Hungarians. It used to be "Hungy" and just becamse "Honkey".

Change Favorite to Funny in the title. Problem solved now.

The history of some of these words are just downright hilarious. Like WOP came about due to an immigration aconym "Without Out Papers".

And all words related to people who "sellout" their race related to food: Oreo, Banana, Coconut.

Do Native American's have such a word?
My Step-father, who lives with my mom near Lancaster PA, calls the Amish "Dunkers", which apparently is derived from them dipping water out of a well with a cup or bucket, instead of from a modern sink. "Dunkers" is apparently commonly heard around the area, offensive- according to my mother, and silly sounding-according to me.

Personally, I've never been offended by being called a Mick, but I think it has a funny ring to it.

Are you asking if there are racial slurs for Native Americans (there's a ton)? Or are you asking if Native Americans have their own racial slurs for others?

What I meant was that was there such a word that Native Americans apply to Native Americans who have "Sold Out" meaning completely gone off the reservation, have no connection the culture. Completely submerged into "White society".

Oh, I see what your saying...do Native Americans have a "belittling word" for someone who goes and marries a white woman.

I'm sure they do. But that's some old time slang. Have to watch Deadwood or something (another reason to love that show).

"Nigger" isn't funny, though. It's 100% bad. There's no surprise, no contradiction, to create humor. Whereas some of these have that.

To take an example from the other thread, "Negress" cracks me up every time I encounter it in some old text. There's a contrast there between this pedantic, arcane-sounding word (it even puts in the effort to be specific about gender) and the low, horrible racism behind it. Especially since the people using it didn't know how bad they were. That can be funny.

The awfulness of the racism is strong, and whenever something is so strong it can be a ripe situation for a joke to undercut that, or subvert it, or just show some surprising contrast. I also think the slurs are funny because I'm a Klansman, but that's neither here nor there.

What ever it is. It's something that is red on the outside and white on the inside.

And as for Nigger. There are two places where I find it hilarious. Blazzing Saddles and Dennis Hopper's speech in True Romance.

Apple? Doesn't really have a hateful ring to it.

I remember the African American kids in my HS always had the one black "Oreo" to pick on because he got the white chicks.

Yeah that's not gonna cut it.

Someone get Sherman Alexie on the phone and ask him.

I know I could go to Wikipedia or somesuch but I'd rather discuss it with you fine people: what's the origin of the slur 'spade'? Does it have something to do with manual labour? Or maybe the playing card?

Revealing my white, middle-class ignorance here (and my apologies to anyone I may offend in the process), but if I was going to 'take back' an insulting term it'd be this one. It sounds a little bit badass.
Well there was Sam Spade Private Eye and of course The Ace of Spades. My guess, the spade looks like a spear tip and you can figure out the rest.

I relented and looked it up, and it's apparently a "mildly derogative term for a black male" used during the civil war period.

Recently, it means either...

Quote:
1. an extremely attractive/hot girl
or...

a sure sign that someone is a bro is if they rep a spade, wear long socks, rock srh, wear baggy dickies, wear spys sunglasses, listen to kottonmouth kings, obsessed with southern california {ie so cal 909}, drive black pick-up trucks, and say DGAF
post #47 of 81
From Wikipedia:

Spade
A black person. Recorded since 1928 (OED), from the playing cards suit.

So, it's like "Black as the ace of spades."

As a white dude, one of my faves is "Devil." The first time I heard it and discovered what it meant, I thought it was pretty awesome that my race was considered sooo bad as to thought diabolical.
I'm kinda partial to 'gwailo' myself.
I actually learned from one of my math teachers in high school that "Flaming" refered to the time in England when homosexuals were burned at the stake and werethereby known as flamers.

This would also explain why cigarettes are called "Fags" over there.
Personally my favorite racial slur is "Watermelon", which Nick Nolte mastered the use of in the film 48 Hrs.
