Repo, the Genetic Opera

I totally forgot Repo, the Genetic Opera was doing a road tour that stops in Atlanta. It comes to the Plaza Theater on Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. I'll be out of town, so I won't get a chance to catch it. When I first heard of the movie, I dismissed it right away. Then I saw some YouTube videos of a couple of the musical numbers and I thought it might be brilliantly awful. Anyone gonna go check it out? And if so, where do you buy your mascara?

I was considering it, but it seems to have sold out sometime last week. I blame the Buffy fans.

Wow, I didn't even know the Plaza sold tickets in advance for special events.

It's pretty good.

Sold Out...

Yeah, I really wanted to see it but it was sold out by the time I heard about it. I called today and they said they are only doing one show since it's a road show with the director...not even just a second showing of the movie without them.

This chick seems way more enthusiastic than the rest of us:

Looks like it gets a one-week run at the Plaza after all. Starts Weds.

I may actually go tomorrow night. Or I may go to Dad's Garage and check out their production of Invasion: Christmas Carol. I haven't decided yet.

Invasion is usually great. Hard to go wrong with that.

Anyone know how long they're playing Repo?

This fucking theater is going to save my ass. I went ahead and saw Let The Right One In yesterday at the Tara, and told my girlfriend that I'd come back with her and see it again. Unfortunately it turns out that I caught the last show.

Enter The Plaza, playing it starting 11/28, and I don't have to worry about an angry female.

I heard it was a one-week run, but that was just second hand info. I'd call and ask. Let me know when you're going to see LTROI, and I might meet you over there, if that's cool.

That'd be absolutely great. It won't be till Monday or Tuesday though, so hopefully that would work. If so, Ivey and I can probably make it at any time during the day or evening.

It's playing until at least Thursday. Go to: http://plazaatlanta.com/showtimes.html. It could be playing longer, but they don't post times that far out, so it only goes until Thursday.

Anyone seen it yet? If not, let me know when you're going- might try to meet up or tag along. I was gonna try for Tuesday or Wednesday night.

Gonna go see it tonight. Saw Invasion: Christmas Carol twice -- once on a preview night and then on opening night. If improv is your thing (it is mine) you'll enjoy it. It's very silly and they sometimes make a few in-jokes that you might not get if you're not a regular at Dad's, but it's a fun show. And I can honestly say that the preview show and the opening night show were very different.

Saw it. It's a mess. Once in a while it manages to be entertaining, but you never really get to know or care about any of the characters. The ending had no impact on me whatsoever. Plus, the film relies on three different exposition crutches: a comic book motif, a narrator and a "Where are they now" style resolution at the end. And there were a few moments in the screening where the audience laughed for the wrong reasons (I count myself among them).

I agree with most of the other reviews: it takes itself too seriously, it's not bad enough to be cultishly bad, and it's nowhere near good enough to discuss it for longer than fifteen minutes.

Is it worth seeing once? Now you've got me all worried that it won't live up to the hype. I'd rather spend my money and see something I'd enjoy- like Let the Right One In (again, it's worth seeing twice).

Considering the print I saw at the Plaza, I'd just wait for it to hit DVD and Netflix it. You won't have to wait long -- I think it comes out in January. Maybe in the right crowd it's worth the $8 ticket price, but when I saw it the theater only had maybe 25 people in it and it just kinda. . . happened.

Well, I saw it tonight- there was 10 people in the audience, it was dead (but then again, it was a Monday night). As for the movie, it was quite awful. There were only one or two songs that were even decent and the singing was just terrible.

It was worth the $6.50 (student discount) just to find out they were playing Nerdcore Rising on the 5th.
