Isn't this nice?

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil."

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.
5 will get you 10 that these people back Republicans, who've had hundreds of thousands killed in Iraq, on the grounds they're allegedly pro-life. To paraphrase the philosopher Obelix, these people are crazy.

According to the Code of Canon law:
Quote:
"A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to celebrate Mass or receive the body of the Lord without previous sacramental confession unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition which includes the resolution of confessing as soon as possible."
Can someone explain to me what constitutes a grave sin in the view of the catholic church? Because if this is similar to the mortal sins this fucker should learn something about the institution he works for.

Grave sin = Whatever the hierarchy of the Church deems as such. Bunch of racist Mother-boy Fuckers.

Oh, religious Southerners, will your viewpoints ever evolve past the same ones held all the way back to Antiquity?

According to the Vatican (yeah, I went there):

Quote:
1415 Anyone who desires to receive Christ in Eucharistic communion must be in the state of grace. Anyone aware of having sinned mortally must not receive communion without having received absolution in the sacrament of penance.
The Vatican itself restricts it to mortal sins. So basicly this guy is denying parts of his community parts of the most integral part of the roman-catholic belief system. Which initself is a crime under Church law against his obligations to the church and this guy God himself.

God work there!

They don't care about God. They just use the name of God as a tool to get money and power, and force their ideals onto other people. If they cared, they wouldn't be so quick to contradict themselves all the time.

Their stance on birth control pills and contraceptives - the widespread promotion and use of which is effective in reducing the number of abortions - makes me absolutely unsympathetic to this kind of silliness.

Couldn't agree more. I'm shocked that anyone is even listening to the Catholic Church and it's crazy crazy followers anymore. How much blatant hypocrisy and scandal and nonsensical contradictory babbling does it take?

I don't think they recognize a difference between contraception and abortions, which does make a kind of sense.

Yeah, it's internally consistent, if completely impractical and unrealistic.

Shit, according to the Catholic church whacking off is on the level of abortion.

Well, yeah. By their standards I left Stalin's body count in the dust 2 years before I could drive.

Yeah, it's difficult to respect that kind of logic.

Yeah, there's a reason I'm no longer a practicing Catholic. Actually it's mostly because I'm a lazy fuck.
