Van Halen

I bought 1984 the other day, and it floored me, I never really listened to VH much, I always thought Eddie's playing was overrated but last year I bought their debut CD and the energy on it was just amazing, I since collected all the other DLR era CD's, Eddie really knew how to craft a great rock song and not just rely on his playing, Alex's drumming combined with Michael's solid bassplaying and you get an incredible energy, DLR provides the perfect package to deliver the music, It's just really high energy rocknroll.

If This or This doesn't get you moving then I'm sorry, something is missing from your music DNA.

And also guaranteed to double your speed when you're driving.

Fair Warning and the Self titled debut are head and shoulders over everything else they did with Roth, although it's all good.

Van Halen thread part II
alright! (does splits in the air)

I've got all 6 DLR era VH albums on my iPod. Whenever I feel the need to get a drink in my hand, dip my toes in the sand, and get a beautiful girl, I play these albums on shuffle. GREAT stuff.

'Van Halen II' is vastly underrated, in my opinion. Listen to 'Light up the Sky' again...that one should have been a single.

"Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love" may be the greatest thing they ever put to vinyl. Hard to believe that came out in 1978. And that Eddie originally didn't think it was good enough to even play for the band.

That's a good one, Richard. For me, their best song will always be 'Beautiful Girls'; that guitar riff has always been a favorite of mine, and it's got a slightly sleazy sound to it that suits the subject matter perfectly.

It is not my favorite DLR album, but you are DAMN right about LUTS. I love that track. SO BADASS.

Also concur that ATBL is the best =VH= ever. Just 100% amazing.

One of my top 3 favorite bands ever. They just don't make fun (and kickass and musical) party rock like that any more. It's hard not to let all the dirty laundry, history of feuds, breakups and makeups, and general assholish personalities get in the way in hindsight, but they were lightning in a bottle for sure. I guess a band like that needed volatile ingredients to create something so explosive and spectacular.

DLR's autobiograpgy "Crazy From The Heat" is a great meandering and colorful conversational read.

I find Fair Warning to be quite uneven, it starts off great with Mean Street, Dirty Movies and Sinners Swing but at the halfway point it sort of meanders. I just find 1984 to be the most consistent of all their CD's except maybe their debut, On Fire is an absolutely kickass song.
