Enlighten a horror dunce

I'll admit I know nothing about horror movies, BUT I want to know more so I thought I'd come here for some advice.

I saw the orginal Night of the Living Dead in it's entirety for the first time earlier this year. LOVED IT. I've seen the remake a few times, and I liked it to a lesser degree.

I've never seen Day of the Dead or Dawn of the Dead.

<pauses to wait for thrown items>

I want to purchase, or at least watch in sequence, all three films, but I notice that there are more than one version of them even on DVD, so my question is, which is the best version to buy of each of these films?

help....

Ok, it's good you are broadening your horror horizons dear chenzzo.

There are 2 versions I believe of Dawn, one has extra stuff, and one doesn't. So it's really your discretion as to which edition to buy. But I could be wrong and lost within the hellish maze that is the DVD special edition.

As for Day, I didn't realize there was more than one edition available let alone on DVD. I have not really bought any movies lately as I'm trying to save money and stop being a fanatical spend happy little thing, also all my Suncoast friends are no longer "Suncoast" friends if you get my drift.

Or you could just rent 'em

the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is also decent enough to merit a viewing. it's directed by horror effects dude Tom Savini and stars B-movie regular and part-time Klingon Tony Todd

I too liked Savini's rendition of NOTLD. Patricia Tallman is also in it, she's been in Knightriders and Monkey Shines too, a Romero gal she be

I gotta pipe in that I though that, aside from a great head against headstone shot the remake was rather PAUL. Todd was fine, but Tallman is an ass horrible actress. Watch Dawn (the best in the series) and Day (for Captain Rhodes) and call it a day after watching the fun flick inspired by the trilogy: Return of the Living Dead (long live the Tarman).

I'd stay away from buying any Dawn of the Dead DVD since it's rumoured (or confirmed, Nick do you know about this?) that a special edition is on the way.

And has anybody seen the Special Edition of Night of the Living Dead? I've heard time and time again that it's simply awful and painful to watch, which makes me want to see it just for curiousity's sake. I certainly don't want to plunk down cash to buy it and I haven't seen it available for rent. If you have seen it, could you please entertain me with a long rant as to why it's so terrible and how much you'd like to execute John Russo with death by slow torture?

"Tallman is an ass horrible actress."
And, despite this, she was the better of the two actresses playing telepaths in Babylon 5. There seemed to be a rule that if you're a good actress (say, Felica Waterman) playing a telepath on B5, you had to die in the same episode you were introduced.

Thanks a lot for your input guys!

Coyote, don't turn this into a B5 discussion, PLEASE. God I hate you SciFi fanboys.

Anyway, if I may, get a subscription to Netflix. It's worth it, and you can check out all the movies you want REAL cheap. Don't buy 'Dawn', since Anchor Bay is supposedly releasing a HUGE DVD of it next year, but you really should see it. It's easily the best.

I agree, buy Dawn on DVD, but maybe rent Day. Day is still good, but there is too much yelling, and not enough zombie carnage.
And too much of the guy that looks like Cat Stevens... My only complaint about Dawn DVD is that it needs to be flipped over half way thru.
