Lucero

They're a great band, one of my absolute favorites, but they're relatively small. If I had to suggest a starter album, I would say find Tennessee, it's their most complete record and if you're in a sort of down and out mood there's nobody better in my opinion.

They have a few tracks to listen to up on their MySpace, and really, I can't recommend them enough.

I enjoy Lucero; I view them as a really, really awesome bar band (and that is not a backhanded compliment) - I have nobody's darlings and think "California" is just an awesome track.

Being from Tennessee, I love Lucero with a passion. "Diamond State Heartbreak" is such a great track, with its lo-fi sound.

They're without a doubt a great bar band. It's almost a crime to go to a show and not be as drunk as the band. Not to mention they play three hour sets and hang out with all the fans before and after shows.

I saw Ben Nicols solo on a tour with Chuck Ragan, and I enjoyed him quite a bit. He played a lot of Lucero songs and they were pretty damn good.

I friend of mine told me they saw a Lucero show in Providence not too long ago, opening for the Weakerthans. Apparently Nicols puked all over the stage, said, "Sorry Weakerthans!" and then abruptly ended their set. It was the last show of their tour, but...this band sounds like a bunch of serious drinkers!

I've got Rebels, Rogues, and Sworn Brothers, and a friend lent me Tennessee. Despite the fact that, on paper, Lucero should be completely up my alley, I can't get into them at all. Maybe they fit my criteria too perfectly or something, and my brain is too comfortable for the music to register - it's as if it doesn't like the lack of challenge. Regardless, the songs just seemed to roll right off of me.

I caught the Revival Tour here in AZ and we were lucky enough to have Tom Gabel (and Tim Barry, but he's on the tour elsewhere, too I believe) on the bill as well. Really, one of the best shows I can remember.

Dave, if you're willing to give them one more shot I suggest you check out their eponymous album, it's easily my favorite of theirs and one of my favorite albums in general.

I have That Much Further West and dig it.

I haven't heard anything else they've done.

I also really liked Ben Nichols on the Revival Tour (Tim Barry stole the show, though)

I've got Nobody's Darlings and Rebels, Rogues and Sworn Brothers. Both fine albums, but nothing I go back to all that often. Still, I've heard enough about their live shows that I'd go see them if they were in my neck of the woods.
