Animal Crossing: City Folk

The Wii version of the game came out this week. The addition of Wii Speak, a voice chat system, is the only really new thing introduced in the game. It still has, though, the same game play which the obsessive/compulsive game player can't resist.

My town name, which has apples as its native fruit, is TunFaire and code is 1247-2201-7455.

If I still had my Wii I was going to be all over this. Until I realized it seems to be the exact same game as the Cube version. And the addition of having 3 friends in my town to fish was kind of lame. This game is begging for a psuedoMMORPG feel to it. Where people can come into your town and actually do things to it.

I played the hell out of the Gamecube version, but I'm not sure if I feel like starting from scratch for what seems to be essentially the same game(that's what reviews are telling me, anyway). I'd be lying if I said the temptation wasn't there though.

Damn you, Tom Nook!

It would be nice if they had some sort of matching system. You'd go to Copper and he would send you to a listing of what town was open and what fruit they had so you could choose whom to visit that way.

This one has quite a few upgrades from the cube version, but yeah, it's pretty much the same, like a new Pokemon game. I would still recommend it, because it's just as fun and time draining.

Slagar, I'll post my info tonight when I get home and we can visit each other's towns. I have oranges.

I love Animal Crossing (there. I said it.) but considering I still own the Gamecube version which my Wii can play, I don't feel compelled to "upgrade" should the mood to refinance with Tom Nook strike me again.

Seriously, disappointingly lazy on Nintendo's part.

Are there plans to make a full on sequel with new everything?
My favorite version of this game still has to be the DS version. I played that game so fucking much it was ridiculous.

I know what you mean but this is a "full-on" sequel, as far as Nintendo is concerned.. They're not treating it like a placeholder game or anything. The next Animal Crossing game will probably come out in a few years.

They've got a new thing where you can pull your character from your DS game into your Wii game. You don't bring anything with you as far as coins or clothes but you do bring the catalog you've built up from the previous game.

Rusty in New Rilo

I need your character's name, Slagar

My characters name is Hiki. I added you this morning but I'm usually on at night, after work.

I will not be happy until I get an axe. There are way to many trees.

Awesome. My gates should be open after 9(EST) tonight if you want to drop by and grab some oranges. I found a coconut on the beach yesterday and planted it, so soon I'll have those too. My wife might be playing instead, her name is Dixie, also in New Rilo, and her code is 2278-0139-2094.

We still haven't had an axe or a slingshot. It's weird to have so little after spending years in our gc town making it perfect and shopping at nookington's.

Got this for Christmas. I sort of hate the game, only because I've done it before, but it has it's moments. PM me for code/name/town.

Nintendo are a bunch of cocksuckers for not AT LEAST throwing in GameBoy 1/Color games in there, since they are not on the VC. Walking around the world with a Gameboy would help.

I don't get this game at all, what is the point?
There isn't one.

This is one of those games that I loathed when I first saw it, but it draws me in for some fucking reason, doing chores and such. I play it for a half hour a day, no more, no less(sometimes less). Honestly, I'm not sure I can explain it's appeal.
Doing chores?!?!?

My 7 year old asked me to buy this game, and I might get it for her, I see the appeal to a person that age. No offense, but I don't see the appeal for adults.
I didn't either see the appeal either, until the Gamecube version sunk it's claws into me. It's a weird game, and being a grown man, I have no idea why I'm playing it.

If your daughter isn't picky about having the newest version and all that, and if you have a Gamecube controller, I'd recommend that one over City Folk. Not only is it cheaper, but it's essentially the same game, but made better by the fact you can find NES games in it, and play them. Don't buy it used though, or the included memory card either may not be there, or won't have the 2 free NES games on it from the get-go(they're like moving in gifts or something) if someone else has already used the memory card.

Or just get the new one, it may be simpler that way.

Is the one with the microphone worth it?
I wouldn't know, I got it without the microphone. I kind of doubt it is though, unless your daughter has a bunch of friends who also have it and will be playing it all the time. Might come in handy down the road when more Wii games have chat(such as the Conduit).
I think it's probably impossible to explain the appeal, but I personally found the original AC to be almost calming. How stupid is that? At the time I had a shit load of stress in my life, and it felt great sitting down to work on pulling weeds, paying off that bastard Nook, and pissing off Resestti. It's like crack.
