What Are You Thankful For?

For those of us in the USA, the holiday known as Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. Most people view it as a dry-run holiday before the biggie that is Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Festivus, but it's also a time when you're supposed to look back on your life and reflect upon the things that you're thankful for.

For the year 2008: Is there anything that you're particularly thankful for?

I'm thankful that my career change back in January is starting to really pay off. I'm thankful for the promotion and raise that I received this past week, in spite of the troubled economy.

I'm thankful that I'm nearing 10 years of marriage to a wonderful lady.

I'm thankful for my health; I started a serious workout regimen back in March that has put me in seriously good shape. I'm healthier than I've ever been with some killer abs.

I'm thankful that many of the small details that have been missing in my life have started to fall into place.

CHUD related: I'm thankful that LisaNY took the time to PM back and forth with me, offering advice over dealing with the death of my mother in April. I'm also thankful for the CHUD friendships that I've devoloped over the past year with certain members of the board (Martin Savage, Tati, and Sackley)

I'm thankful that Eileen picked me this year to be brought on as one of the new DVD reviewers.

I'm thankful for youtube videos of babies who are cutely afraid of the car wash.

I'm thankful that I'm young, free, debt-free, carefree, sometimes even fancy-free, even though I've never done anything to deserve such a life.

No particular order...

I'm still young. I am studying the stuff I like (Biology) with a good team. I still have some chops (brains among other things). The recent bond with a lovely friend (aka found something beautiful like Morrissey says).

Right at this exact moment I am thankful for my Uncle who gave me the money to get a new furnace. Getting new one installed Monday. Living in a house with no heat and its 13 degrees outside is something I hope to never go through again.

I'm thankful for my wife who slept on an air mattress right beside me when I was stuck in a hospital bed and stuck in a wheelchair for a year.

I'm thankful for two beautiful healthy children.

I'm thankful for my job(even though I hate it at times.)

I'm thankful to have been alive to witness the electing of our first black president.

I'm thankful for the advances we have in medicine for without it I'd be legless.

I'm thankful to live in a nation where I can believe in the God of my choice, no matter how silly some think it is. I'm also thankful that nobody is forced to worship either.

I'm thankful for this place since it basically got me through the worst time in my life with some witty snark, insightful discussion and a hell of a lot of great people. I really think if it hadn't been for you guys here at the forums, I would have had a terrible depression after my wreck. Thankfully I did not.

I guess I've rambled a bit but hey, I'm thankful for a ton of stuff right now.

I will travel back home soon to see a lot of old and new faces. I had the money necessary to buy a VAIO since I needed it like crack.
My almost 3 year old son said he is thankful for Monster Trucks.

He knows the true meaning of thanksgiving.
I'm thankful for being alive so I can argue about the shittiness of the new ST trailer.

I'm thankful for having a supportive family who's been there for me through everything and is still here if new problems arise.

I'm thankful I'll be going back to Rutgers to finish my degree next semester, instead of sitting at home taking care of my ailing Grandmother all week.
I'm thankful for my wonderful family, who they are all doing great. Specially my brothers and sisters.
My health, and that finally after a year, the job change started to pay off.
I'm very thankful for Obama being elected in the US. As I believe in the country's power the lead and inspire.
And the great amount of nice people i've met over the world. Whom i hope to meet face to face soon.
I passed the California bar exam! I'm thankful for that. Really, really thankful.
I'm thankful for my daughter, who keeps things simple and amazing.

For CHUD (seriously - this site's given me a LOT of things, the very least of which is money)

For Barack Obama and everything that represents.

For a young lady named Ashley.

For my dayjob and everybody with whom I work.

And of course all of my friends and family.

Monster trucks, porn and His Infernal Majesty.

Being alive to see

The Cold War, which I grew up with, fade away like a bad dream

The first Black US President, and everything he represents

The "far out" Sci Fi technology that is now becoming real (real alternative energery, the Internet, healthcare related stuff that makes a visit to the Doctor/Optomitrist/Dentist less of an ordeal).

P0rn being available on demand in the privacy of my own home!

I ain't got shit to be thankful for, I got lost out in the boonies for like 5 hours, I'm going bald, I may be a manic depressive and have no insurance. Fuck 2008.
that i'm making my way through med school and the reality of being an adult on my own is both scary but exciting. That somehow I've been maturing to hopefully be the person I was totally not back in high school and early college.

Oh and that my dad is right about a lot of things.
I would say being able to find a new job so quickly as the economy continues to hit the shitter. And also being disease free is nice.

Waxman getting that chairmanship was certainly great. And tons of other stuff that will probably fall into a "What went on in 2008" thread.

Now if only my dating situation would improve.

Oh and Spook. Change your profile. It still says Law Student.

That was kind of what I was thinking. Besides Obama being elected my girlfriend went off to Japan for a year, my cancer returned and I'm about to undergo a full week chemo process, and I lost my damn job. Movies weren't even that good this year honestly. I think that if I hadn't gotten a hug from Doug Jones last week I might have called it the worst year ever.
I am really sorry to hear about that, Gabe.
Hopefully 2009 will be much better.

I seriously doubt 2009 will any better for me, I've had problems with depression and being a miserable piece of shit for a while, but lately it's been hitting me pretty hard.

So I'm gonna say fuck 2009 right now. Fuck it up its stupid ass.

Just get addicted to something, like cocaine. It solves all problems.

I've seriously lost interest in getting fucked up.

Bub: Try the gym. Getting into working out did wonders for me, physically and mentally.

I'll give it a shot.
I'm thankful that I have a job I enjoy, if not love, that I do well enough to give me job security and benefits in this crappy economy, even if I am basically working two-full time jobs right now. I'm thankful that one of those jobs involves film/video work. I'm thankful that I have my own apartment and time to myself. And I'm thankful that 2008 -- while not the disaster that past bad years have been -- is almost over. I hadn't had an overall shitty year for a while; I suppose it was due. Hopefully 2009 will be better.

I'm thankful for my wife and both our families (everyone's feeling better after a few close calls).
I'm thankful for my job, and that most if not all my debts (mortgage, home equity loan) will be paid off in 10 years.
I'm thankful we will have Obama as president next year.
I'm thankful we'll get Watchmen soon.
I'm thankful my car still works.

I'm thankful for you lot, too. This site and the folks on it definitely raise my IQ a bit and help me pass the time during the many dead spots at work.

I'm thankful for my beautiful wife.
I'm thankful for my amazingly smart and adorable daughter.
I'm thankful for my family (especially my sisters).
I'm thankful for the friends that I have.
I'm thankful for my job.

I'm thankful that my wife is exponentially more successful than me and that her career has taken off.

I'm thankful that the goal of obtaining my MBA is approaching nearer and doesn't feel as out of reach as it did this time last year.

I'm thankful for the relationships I've managed to forge here on Chud. At one time I balked at the concept of "internet friends", but now I understand how powerful these relationships can be and how they can enrich your life. Thanks, everyone.

I, like many of us, am thankful that our nation was able to pull it's head out of it's ass long enough to take a step in the right direction for making this country a better place and realizing it's ideals.

I have to avoid dead spots while I try to study on the weekends especially. Thanks CHUD now I picked a lot of good music and some great comics.
I am thankful that I have a job with a guaranteed 40 hours a week.
I am thankful that I have a wife who enjoys playing video games with me.
I am thankful that I found CHUD during a very trying time in my life and that the boards have become somewhere I look forward to visiting when I have free time.

2008 hasn't been all sunshine and farts, but considering how badly the rest of the country is doing, I look forward to 2009 with some optimism.

I will also echo this sentiment.
Just to echo Mattimus above me, I am so thankful I have a new job (40hrs, plus full benefits). After being out of work for so long, it really is a blessing.

I am thankful for my family, including my knuckleheaded seven-year old nephew. I have no kids of my own, and watching him grow up is making me feel so old and proud.

I am thankful that I have reached 30 years of life. God willing, I can see at least 30 more.

Sorry if I am being long winded, but I had a lot on my mind.
Oh yeah - CHUD has gotten me through many tough times over the years. It really is rare here in the Internets to find a place with really interesting, intelligent, and quirky folks.

I'm thankful that the medical issues my mother and my fiancee faced turned out to be minor and treatable.

I'm thankful to be graduating college in a month, for friends and family who love me, for my health, and for my WALL-E paperweight that makes me smile while I'm knee-deep in final papers.

I'll throw my hat into this ring:

I'm thankful for being able to buy a home with my wife back in March of this year, and still being able to own it without falling victim to all these foreclosure horror stories I keep reading about in the news.

I'm thankful that I have a job with enough security to weather the current economic downturn.

I'm thankful that my web comic is starting to do some serious growing in popularity.

I'm thankful that I can enjoy being able to do something creative like write for a web comic.

I'm thankful that I've finally been able to play out some of my long-time dreams, like acting, even if it's for a local, low-budget and low-key DTV group of film makers (though it may change for the better in 2009).

I'm thankful for being able to survive so far here on the CHUD boards after joining back in March.

I'm thankful for the fact that almost all of the Chewers I've had the pleasure of getting into discussions with have been cool and decent folk.

I'm thankful for the change in our country's leadership.

I'm thankful for my wife, who puts up with my occasional retardedness and gets me more than anyone.

I'm thankful for life.

I'm thankful for my sexy funny and talented boyfriend, and that he graduated art school. I never thought I'd meet someone so insane in every way that I am insane.

I'm thankful for my amazing freaky quirky friends and family, and for all the new interesting people I met this year

I'm thankful for my awesome job. I may not want to work in reality TV forever but it's fun and it pays well for now

I'm thankful I live in Vancouver and have so many beautiful opportunities for fun and adventure

I'm thankful I got to travel this year and go to Burning Man

I'm thankful I managed to quit smoking. 4 months and counting.

I'm thankful for all the good times I've been having and hope to have in the future

I'm thankful for a good job and moving to Maryland in the first place.

I'm thankful for my family and getting to see them everyday. As opposed to the last few years.

I'm thankful for the Phillies

I'm thankful for The Wire

I'm thankful for CHUD and the seemingly endless entertainment I get from this place.

Also, I'm thankful for Obama.

Due to my 56-year-old mother's deadbeat, cocksucker landlord, she had to move out of her home in the winter time. She moved into this house and worked her ass off cleaning it up after his lazy, bastard son and his friends trashed it. Now, he cut her a little slack on the deposit, but she really did alot to fix it up. When she moved in, it had a broken window in the front. He said he would fix it. Two months later we got one and put it in. He took the materials off the rent, but still. Now she has been living for two months without a proper working furnace. She's been heating it with space heaters, and running a $200+ electric bill. Her rent is $375 a month, and she only gets a little over $700 disability.

Well, yesterday we moved her into a new place. It was a beautiful sunny day. On top of that, my boss called me Tuesday, and told me I didn't need to come in Wendsday. Today, it looks to get cold and rainy again. I'm thankful for such ease in moving her yesterday. Not ready to believe in God just yet though.

Bump. Thanksgiving is a week away, and it's that time again when we're supposed to look back and reflect on the year.

I'm game.

I'm thankful I still have a job (this year my company let go 15% of the staff).

I'm thankful that I've had the privilege of being with the same person for 5 years now (5 years?!? - I really should think about rings sometime, huh?)

I'm thankful for my old friends and the new ones I've made this year.

I'm thankful for good health.

To be honest, there isn't much that I'm not thankful for this year.

This. Constant layoffs the entire year at my company, and I'm thankful to still be here.

Yeah, it's been a pretty good year for me as well, HBarr.

I'm thankful for my 10th wedding anniversary in July.
I'm thankful for the two promotions that I received this year (including one raise).
I'm thankful for my consulting contract which, so far, goes pretty deeply into 2010.
I'm thankful for the family fishing trip that ALL of us were able to take in August.
I'm thankful for my good health and the fact that I'm in the best physical shape of my life.
I'm really, really, really thankful that I'm not spending this Thanksgiving puking my guts out in the fucking hospital. Still single, still jobless, still without direction, but at least I'm not spending the next 3 weeks in the fucking hospital. Vomiting.

God has blessed me to an embarrassing amount this year.

I'm thankful that it is fun to watch the Crimson Tide on the field, and the UK Wildcats in the gym this year.

I'm thankful for my job, and the completion of my Master's Degree.

I'm thankful for my family, and having my grandmother another year.

I'm thankful for some great entertainment this year: The Malazan series, finally watching It's always Sunny..., a new season of Venture Brothers, a fun new Star trek, Sam Raimi bringing the spooks again, Wii sports and Wii resort, etc.

I'm thankful that my back is feeling better after 9 months of therapy and that I might not have to have surgery on it after all.

And, especially, I'm thankful for two beautiful, healthy daughters and a strong, supportive, and incredibly loving wife.
I'm still thankful, every single moment of the few months I've been here, that I finally found a decent job after three months of unemployment. I'm doubly thankful since it's enabled me to upgrade to a nice 1080p projector/106" screen set up for my living room.

Also very thankful for my wonderful (if frustrating) family, my friends and my health.
