Favorite Pixies song? - Page 2

This may be my favorite Pixies video ever! Check out Paul Shaffer's keyboard solo and his Larry David scrunchy face at the end of it.

Little known fact, Johnny Greenwood taught himself guitar by playing along obsessively to Surfer Rosa and New York.

'I've Been Tired'

Nobody mentioned Alec Eiffel yet. Such a great song.

Trompe Le Monde felt like borderline self parody to me when it came out. I haven't listened to it in years.

"Here comes your Man" or "Gigantic" I can't decide. Two different singers but two awesome songs.

For some reason, Velouria destroyed me every time I listened to it after a difficult break up.

The Pump Up the Volume soundtrack turned me onto the Pixies originally (10 years old at the time!) so Wave of Mutilation has always been my favorite Pixies track.

I'm also currently in love with Meaghen Smith's cover of Here Comes Your Man off of the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack.

God damned I'm old.

Might as well use this thread to mention I saw them at Hammerstein Ballroom last night. Odd setlist, although of course I knew the main set was Doolittle in its entirety. It was bookended by B-sides almost exclusively. In fact I'm having trouble recalling the pre-Doolittle songs, but the encore(s) included the UK Surf version of "Wave of Mutilation," "Ed Is Dead," "Into The White" and "Caribou". The only non-Doolittle album tracks they performed were "Broken Face" and "Planet of Sound," which they closed with.

I've seen them a few times so I didn't mind the eclectic setlist, but I imagine first-timers were disappointed. (Even I missed "Gigantic", to be honest.)

I've never thought of "Ed is Dead" and "Caribou" as non-album tracks, even though they are. Don't most Pixies fans have Come On Pilgrim?

True, I shouldn't have lumped the EP in there.

Seems like the entire set was made up of Doolittle or Doolittle-era B-sides, minus the encore which was different every night. Their last night in Chicago they played Something Against You, Vamos, Where Is My Mind and Gigantic. The night before they played Velouria, U-Mass, Holiday, Isla De Encanta. This was my first time seeing them and it's about fucking time. So great.

Favorite Pixies song: definitely "No. 13 Baby." It rocks and it rawks and it's got hooks galore. Frank sings, and then screams his soul out, and then there's the catchiest and most sublime pop musical outro to end any song I've ever heard (except for maybe "You're No Good" by Linda Ronstadt).
