Obama Buyer's Remorse? - Page 2

Stupid for two reasons. First, Obama never ran as a far-left candidate. Anyone that believes that was listening to the McCain Campaign and Fox News.

But more importantly, Obama is going to attempt to make massive changes, including universal health care, a clean energy program, a huge investment in infrastructure, and getting us out of Iraq, all while managing a disastrous economy and threats to security from all over the place. In two years, Democrats could very easily lose their majorities in congress. He needs everyone on his side he can get. I'm looking at what he's doing, who he's appointing, and I'm seeing coalition building going on. It's the only way he'll get anywhere. The less enemies he has, the better.

Liberals voice concerns about Obama

I think a lot of this is exaggerated, and many of these criticisms are voiced by internet blogs/groups with an overinflated sense of importance.

The central premise of the left’s criticism is direct – don’t bite the hand that feeds, Mr. President-elect. The Internet that helped him so much during the election is lighting up with irritation and critiques.

“There don't seem to be any liberals in Obama's cabinet,” writes John Aravosis, the editor of Americablog.com. “What does all of this mean for Obama's policies, and just as important, Obama Supreme Court announcements?”

I have no buyer's remorse. I think his choices have been fine so far.

Oh lord, are far-left types now adopting Conservatives' tendency to label people as REAL liberals and FAKE liberals? LINOs?

There was a post at Obsidian Wings today about how this liberal bitching is going to help Obama, because it's making everyone else think of him as centrist (possibly more than is warranted). Even some of the wingnut sites, like Townhall, are coming to Obama's defense. While patting themselves on the back for having an impact, of course.

Ug. As liberal as I am, I hate the left sometimes. All of these blogs just exist for one thing: to deliver money through hits. I sometimes feel that all of the agitation is just motivated by the need to feed authors and their families. With no more Bush outrages to rally against, they'll resort to lambasting Obama for not transforming the USA into the People's Democratic Republic of America overnight.

You gotta love the notion of accusing someone of not being "progressive" because they are not appointing only far-left people to every administration position imaginable.

As someone who didnt vote for the guy (but glad he won), I have nothing but good things to say about his choices so far and am hopeful for very good things to come out of his first term.

There won't be real buyers remorse until 2012 when McCain is alive and kicking and the notion of President Palin has passed. All you're hearing now is political junkies writhing in pain over withdrawals, screaming out for a fix.

Like, here's a good example, from the opposite flank. Education reformers are worried that Obama seems to be appointing someone closely associated with teachers unions to head up education. But if you want to pass the kinds of reforms these people are talking about (more merit pay, less tenure, whatever), it's much easier if you have someone friendly with the unions doing the job (as opposed to an education secretary who compares teachers' unions to Al Quaeda). It's easier to get Israel to compromise on settlements if you have someone who is perceived as pro-Israel doing the talking. And so on. I don't know for sure if I'm reading Obama's intentions correctly, but it seems in line with how he's accomplished things so far.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama says the nation probably faces huge deficits for years to come, but heavy spending is needed now to spur the economy.
Obama said Tuesday the deficit appears on track to hit $1 trillion soon. Speaking to reporters after meeting with top economic aides, Obama said: "Potentially we've got trillion-dollar deficits for years to come, even with the economic recovery that we are working on."

He wants Congress to approve a stimulus plan of about $775 billion.

The federal deficit was about $455 billion when the last fiscal year ended on Sept. 30, 2008.
So, does this create buyers remorse for those people who hoped he would reign in the budget? While I can appreciate the discretionary spending now (1 trillion, way too much) to help stabilize the economy, talking about trillion dollar deficits for years to come with regard to the budget, is a sign of rampant spending not of a failing economy. Note how he's slipping in measures for his health care reform into this trillion dollar aid package.

I said he'd have trillion dollar deficits during the election, based on his proposals, citing the Tax Policy Center.org as a credible source.

I'll say! I thought he would just wave his magic wizard wand before he took office and make all these troubles disappear. Thanks for opening my eyes, Snaieke.

Yeah, I'm already pining for President-In-Waiting Sarah Palin. Hindsight's a muthafucka.

Well to be honest, the one thing I really disliked about Bush was his decrease taxes and increase spending philosophy. I'm not really thrilled we're going to be seeing more of this during an Obama administration.

Most of the proposed stimulus plan will be in the form of TAXCUTS! Isn't that what the righties want?

Oh wait, it's for the middle class. nevermind.

They're not even effective tax cuts either.

Tax cuts alone do not stimulate the economy. I wish thinking people would stop throwing that bullshit around.
