Happy Thanksgiving (USA 2008)

Thread Starter
To my fellow Chewers based in the USA:

Sincerely, I hope that you all have a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.

- If you're stuck with family members/in-laws that you don't like: may the time pass quickly and without violence.
- If you're going to drive anywhere: may the traffic be going with you, not against you.
- If you're going to fly anywhere: may your luggage arrive at the same destination as you.
- If you're stuck at work: may you be able to play Desktop Tower Defense instead of actually work...and earn time and a half in the process.

For you non-US Chewers, enjoy the day regardless.

Cheers!

I'm about to drive four hours to my parents' house. Lord, help me.
Right back at ya, big guy.

The one bright spot in all this holiday mess is that my mother-in-law will soon be leaving. She's been here for 3 days already, and I am so stressed, I could punch a nun.
Cannot wait to go to my pops's house tomorrow. I get to see my little half-brother that I haven't been able to see in like 5 years thanks to his cunt of a mother who has slandered me in court because she's fucking nuts. Plus copious amounts of Fat Tire/2 below/and Premium tomorrow!

Tomorrow is with my family (and lots of scotch).
Friday and Saturday is out-of-town with my wife's family (there isn't enough scotch in the world).
I never have to worry about going to the girl's family get togethers thanks to them living in Arizona and thanks to us for not being able to afford it at the moment.

So the question is: How is everyone going to enjoy their turkey's?

My bro is soaking ours in brine which is my favorite way. Although I hope to be able to cook a turducken next year. Or deep fry that sonofabitch.

My sister is slow-cooking tomorrow's turkey. If I can go by previous turkeys, it'll be 10 shades of awesome.
Friday's will probably be a supermarket 'meal deal': Turkey and all of the fixings for $30.

I've heard that deep fried turkeys can't be beat, but I've yet to try one.
I'd enjoy Thanksgiving a lot more if the damn Lions didn't play. They kill the day before it starts.
I'll be having dinner at 4 tomorrow with my mom and siblings. There's going to be a turkey and a ham.
Happy Thanksgiving to all y'all!

I'm about 2 hours or so shy of bolting for a nice four day weekend - Thanksgiving dinner at my sister-in-law's (get to play with my 10 month old niece and listen to cop stories from my brother-in-law. Awesome!), then three days of nothing but lazing about at home.

Hope everyone's Thanksgiving is as stress-free as possible!
Two Thanksgiving dinners tomorrow and another on Friday. Friday's bird will be deep fried in my very own backyard so, fingers crossed, hopefully I won't burn down my house.

The best part. I have to pack up my 5 month old twin daughters and truck them all over creation and they don't like that.

Who else here thinks Prime Rib is a valid substitute to Turkey? I know I do.
Prime Rib > Turkey
As long as I get the traditional sausage and oyster dressing (stuffing, whatev) I don't care what meat I have with it.

As do I... but last year, I caught merry fucking hell for making a goose at Xmas.

Which is why when the in-laws show up for holidays now, I smile, greet them warmly, and disappear to my room until they leave.

Here's one that worked out pretty good for the aforementioned goose I cooked.

I'm gonna need pictures of your meals. All of them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Enjoy your break.

^^Pretty much that one but double the recipe add 1 cup chicken stock (or broth) and 1 lb of bulk sausage, browned (Italian is my preference).

And you can take a shortcut by using pre-packed bread cubes.

** You want to drain the sausage, but not completely. Use the drippings to lightly coat the dressing mixture.

Meat Cake, Madden style Turkey and starch. Lots and lots of starch.

I'm seriously considering making a batch of that for tomorrow's meal. There's no way in hell that's going to make it inside of the bird (not everyone in my family will want oysters), so it would have to be a side dish. How prevalent is the seafood taste in this, or is it fairly well masked by the sausage?
It doesn't have a strong seafood taste at all. The oysters are really there for texture more than anything else.

Don't you have some kind of Argentine equivalent? Get your own dinner and cranberry sauce in the form of a can.
Nope, Christmas and New Year's Eve are the 2 main family dinner oriented holidays.
Ah yes. Now that's America right there. We've got Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day and Fourth of July. With Easter to a lesser extent as eating holidays. (For us Jews, it's Passover although it's not really a big dinner. Practicing chewers can clarify this)

And we've got our get loaded holidays: New Year's and St. Patricks.

You really got to like this country.

Of course do you guys have to deal with Valentine's Day? If not, you're lucky.

I'll post pictures, Tati. You'll want to lick the screen.

...and Ed? We may have more holidays and such, but Tati's got the hottest women.

I didn't know you'd be the kind of guy who works in food porn.

Since I live on the water, I get my oysters fresh. I actually prefer a fishy taste to the dressing that I put in the bird, so I do not rinse the oysters before I shuck them... but to each his own.

Tati, just so you do not feel left out, we can order you some of these.

EDIT: The Hannukah set comes with a free dreidel, too! It's win-win!

The Turkey and Gravy Jones Soda? Skip. Trust me.

True. Exceptionally vile, but the new holiday flavors are at Target. Mele Kalikimaka(pineapple & coconut) is the tits!
Someone had to try the drink. Thank me for taking the bullet.
My thanksgiving is going to consist of me in front of the tv watching football, and beer. My family went to the beach (I couldnt because of a Widespread Panic concert on Friday).
I went to pick up my little sister at the airport last night. We were hugging and whooping it up like a couple of morons. Good times

Thanksgiving consists of eating, going to other people's homes and taking their food, then coming back home to watch the assassination of the Lions.
If any of you are looking for an alternative to parades and football for your TV viewing today, G4 has an Arrested Development marathon starting at 9:00am.
I'm doing all the cooking because my girlfriend sucks at cooking. Hooray me.

Hey, she has to do the dishes, so it's a win-win for me.
Welcome to my Hell. I've got three separate desserts to make today, one of which involves me standing at the stove, stirring a pan of carrots for an hour and a half, while my wife's Cranberry Orange salad simply involved her turning on a blender.

Sauteeing the hell outta some vegetables right now, quiche is already done, deviled eggs are done, next will be the dressing and then turkey. Then random side dishes and shooing the cats out of the kitchen.

Have a good one, y'all.
Quiche on Thanksgiving? Communist.
Oh yes, any day where I get to eat great food through all of it is a great one.

The Lions will lose and I will watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles tonight, thus completing the Thanksgiving tradition.

Happy T-Day, everyone.
They just rickrolled the Macy's parade. The meme is officially dead.

We were going to watch PT&A last night, but we were distracted by...other things. We're going to try and watch it tonight after dinner, along with the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving cartoon.

Yeah, SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE.

As to the Lions...they should just forfeit the game, honestly. It's quicker and less painful for everyone involved. I miss Wayne Fontes.
Well... It's 10:08 AM, the prep on dinner is done, the rest of the family will arrive shortly, and I'm already on my second bottle of wine! I predict an unpredictable Thanksgiving with the chance of many arguments and insults.

We're meeting at 4pm for power drinking, pre turkey. I've got a fresh bottle of THIS for today:

and my brother is bringing:

Fuck the turkey.
Judas, I may adopt your brother on principle.

Drink well, my friend!

Actually, that's my favorite. (Green Peas? Boo.) Are they using real sugar this year? Because the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners is the biggest problem with those things.

Working the matinee at the theatre today, probably taking it easy tonight. Dinner at the folks' house on Saturday when we're all free.
Awesome new twist: we're not eating dinner at frigging 2pm, but rather at an actual dinner time. Therefore my mother-in-law just rocked some challah french toast with strawberries, and a side of veggie bacon. I hope to get a little fucked up between now and dinner time, and that french toast will be my gastrointestinal wingman.
