Well, if you could help yourself, then we won't have this problem anymore. I've been trying to tone down the anger shit, I'm over the cigarette withdrawal, but you and Paul and Hans make it really hard to not flip out with your 'just popping into a thread to insult InTheShadows' troll shit. I don't have a problem with any other people on these boards, except you few.

I miss the times when this was an interesting thread to read through...

Apologies.

Quick Question - Whats the difference between what Spike does here and trolling? I'm so fucking confused on that subject, since he just essentially admitted to saying shit just to provoke a fight.

Post count. Plus, a troll only trolls. Spike contributes more to movie conversations on this board than a lot of other posters.

Hmmm...I'm not saying he is a troll, I guess that came out wrong. I like Spike when he's not picking fights with me to "get a reaction", which seems to be most of the time these past few days (Outside of his great list in the Best Albums of 2008 thread).

Betta?

Yowza!

It's David Lynch mixed with Larry "Dr. Giggles" Drake.

Hey that's a decent description, actually. I ain't ashamed. I'm pretty sure I hadn't slept for a while and was pretty drunk when I took that.

So... does anyone here who actually contributed an on topic post here want to further discuss their careers or does anyone who hasn't yet contributed yet want to do so? This was kind of an interesting thread about two pages ago.

This is what I imagine the Hills must be like.

Well today I bought a 1 year gym membership so I plan to go there at lunch time in the week days. At least it will get me out for a few hrs. and hopefully do wonders for my health.

As far as career choice, I used to want to work as a social worker. It was a noble ambition but after spending 14 months as a volunteer at The Millgate Centre in Leicester, UK, I was burned out on that idea. It was a school for criminal and abused children and there were some incredible and sad cases among them.

So I have huge respect for people who actually make it a living working for and helping these people with only a lousy paycheck to show for it.

I know for a good long while I had a huge fascination with law enforcement. In fact watching Homicide made me want to be a cop. (I even applied to the LAPD three years ago on a lark and was promptly shot down during the interview process and frankly I wasn't qualified) And while I still want to throw my name into the FBI in about three or four years. It's just to try, I really doubt I'll get in. Not a big deal since I matured in what I think about what I want to do.

The only concrete thing I had in mind was that I knew I'd have multiple careers and that I wanted to teach when I got into my 50s. That's pretty much it.

Good deal, Bitches and Ed. The idea of having multiple careers is oddly routine for people our age. Outside of the Notre Dame Philosophy program, all the programs I'm interested in require 3-5 years of work experience, so I think I'll stick with working for the party for a couple more mores and then apply to the Berkeley Law/Harvard joint program, the Notre Dame program, and a few others.

If I can impart any advice it's this

"Fuck the public sector"

You might be making a difference to peoples lives but you'll also have to deal with grossly incompetent and top heavy management structures and a bunch of people who couldn't cut it in the real world. In terms of HR the public sector is where all the people who couldn't get jobs in the private sector end up as a last resort and so you have to deal with constant restructures and people fucking around for the sake of fucking around. I've been with the NHS for four years now and I've seen my department get restructured seven times so far.

I have worked for the City of Los Angeles. I'm familiar with the fucked up nature of bureaucracy. But let me tell you, the private sector has its own problems. As it was with my previous job.

I know if I want to continue the accounting route I should look into CPA exam but that would be a bitch to do. Still, it's a more viable option that say Law School which is off the table due to shitty LSAT scores and no desire to lay hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

I've got a long ass title that means dick to most people, and sit at a desk all day. I work for a pipeline engineering company, but work is extremely slow right now, and projects are getting delayed or canceled. Anyone in the company with half a brain is scared to death that Houston is going to go the way of the early 80's again, so my days are anxious ones. I would kill for $2.00/gal gas again. As for what I would be doing if we were busy, I chase down all our purchase orders and make sure everything is built to spec and delivered on time. Sounds pretty dull, but it's really not. I get to travel a bit, no one even realizes I exist unless something screws up (which I don't let happen often).

I'd kill to move back to Toronto, but I feel a bit stuck here. Moving to Canada would basically mean moving to Calgary with my job experience. I could get a second degree through my company, but then I would have to work here I think two more years minimum after completing the degree program. Also, I'm being "groomed" to move up when my boss retires, and considering his salary I am pretty tempted to stay and retire early.

You all have careers or jobs that are infinitely more interesting than my own.

I work as a Fleet Operations Coordinator for a Just in Time delivery service (AKA, Expedited Brokerage).

My job is primarily HR based, I have a fleet of 200 trucks with a rotating staff of independent contractors behind the wheel. My job consists of addressing pay issues, act as a liaison between them, dispatch operations and internal management, actively broker freight for them online, guide them with making business decisions based on their expenses and possible revenue, and basically listen to their complaints all day.

The most tedious aspect to my job is tracking their pay, mileage, fuel surcharge and accessorial charges throughout the week. I also have opened the door for this to be a 24 hr a day job as most of my IC's have my cell number and can contact me after hours if they run into any problems with a load or with dispatch.

It can be an interesting job at times and I've had some interesting situations that I've dealt with (A load of hijacked cell phones last year for example). But nothing close to being entertainment related. Unless you count the agreement that I helped us secure with Skycam and Fox.

I am also (constantly) going to school in an attempt to obtain my MBA. Why? I don't know.

Right now with the economy being what it is, the most disheartening aspect of my job is that there isn't enough work to go around for my fleet. On any given day only 1/2 of my trucks are loaded because if the country isn't buying anything, then the country isn't producing. If the country isn't producing there is nothing to be shipped. These people depend on me to put food on their tables and roofs over their heads, and when they call me crying because they are afraid of losing their houses etc because of the current economic climate it can be quite depressing.

Basically, I am Frank Sobatka in a much nicer office.

If that's the case Swice, don't have your fuckup of a nephew try to do any deals with your "contacts"
