So I'm getting two PS3 games for X-mas...

.... and which two should I get? I was leaning towards picking from Far Cry 2, Saint's Row 2, and Dead Space. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Honorable mentions are Bioshock and Mirror's Edge, but a friend of mine has both and I might just borrow one of them when he's finished.

Any help?

Saint Rows 2 is the crack of video games.

I'd pass on Far Cry 2 and suggest LBP or Dead Space instead. To decide between the two you only need to decide whether you have friends over regularly for gaming sessions or not. If so, LBP. If not, DS.

Saint's Row has only gotten praise from my friends though - so that's a no-brainer.

I would say Fallout 3, except that I have yet to play it. It's what I'm getting for Xmas.

Fallout 3's a good one too, difficult choices!

You could go for Valkryia Chronicles which is a PS3 only title. It's a turn based strategy game though so not sure if it's your cup of tea. It's done by the same company that did Skies of Arcadia (in fact, some of your squad mates can be Vyse and Aika).

Valkryia is fucking awesome.

Dead Space is amazing. I'd also throw in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It's pretty much a buttom smasher fighter, but its a hell of a lot of fun. Plus it has great replay value.

Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 2, without a doubt. Oh ... wait ...

Do you have an Xbox 360? If you do, I'd stick to PS3 exclusives like Little Big Planet and such. I tried a demo for Warhawk for the first time yesterday and it was a fuckin blast! I plan on picking it up next week.

Just looked up the game Valkryia Chronicles that was mentioned, man it looks awesome. Can't believe I missed this one.

If you haven't played Bioshock, remedy that, for sure.

I'm PS3 exclusive. The only reason I'm not buying Bioshock or Mirror's Edge is because I can borrow them from my buddy for as long as it takes for me to beat them.

I'm leaning more towards Dead Space and Saint's Row 2. I tend to do most my gaming alone, as I haven't really gotten back online since being home from college.

So no Far Cry II?

That's so far off my radar I didn't even realize it was out.

Far Cry 2 seems to have a bit of a following on these boards but I found it pretty disappointing. It might be one of those "long term commitments" since the map's insanely large but I found it a bit dull with some fairly lousy combat physics.

I think I'd recommend it to a PC owner, since it feels like it belongs on that platform.

But are Dead Space and SR2 entertaining enough? I've heard some good things about both.

Saints Row 2 co-op is the greatest co-op experience evah. If you're both in the mood to have fun and aren't hyper-serious about playing the game.

If you don't have someone to play it with, I think the experience might be a bit empty.

SR2 without question,

Dead Space for me, does look like a rental. But then, I only really rent singleplayer games this generation. Personally the only exception to that would be Fallout 3, which is pretty huge.

Then again, i've been oddly spending most of my time recently just playing that zombie level co-operatively with mates on CoD5. Different strokes for different folks!

Dead Space is entertaining. Some of the creatures you battle are a little repetitious, but the storyline and how the creatures attack you will definitely keep you on your toes. Plus, it's a great game for lighting and sound effects.

As for SR2, I haven't played it (I'm not a big fan of sandbox games). However, my friends love it and said they prefer it to GTA4.

Regarding Far Cry 2, all I have to say is the first 10 minutes of the game has you sitting in a jeep unable to do anything, and then there's another 5 minutes of cut scenes after that. I wouldn't call it thrilling.

Don't forget you contract malaria - the most gripping of video game diseases which you must then take medication for at intervals.

The combat just drives me nuts. And all the goddamn driving.

Resistance 2! I'd avoid buying Bioshock for PS3 right now because it'll probably be dirt cheap in a couple months and, if you've made it this long without playing it, a few more months won't kill you.

I haven't played any of the other ones really but Mirror's Edge would probably be one that I'd pick up at the same price as Bioshock and it'll probably get cheap fast. I have heard good things about SR2 and Dead Space but I don't know that you need to own Dead Space. It sounds like it can be played through pretty quickly.

Really though, if you're considering those games, I don't know why Resistance 2 wouldn't be on your list. The online multiplayer is great and the single player is good too.
