BTW, for those inclined to have shit fits about such things: I liked this a lot better than THE DARK KNIGHT. It might be my favorite superhero movie of the year. I could see myself watching this fucker again and again.

"...if you're the person who laughs and applauds at the sight of an old lady's head being turned into a smoking, meaty crater, you're going to fucking love Punisher: War Zone."

Quote whore.
If it's like Rambo, I'm gonna like this...
Great review, Devin. It sounds like a blast.
Well that review just about cinches up my Friday night. I went from completely disinterested to edge of my seat.
Why do there have to be 2 days in between today and Friday? Not to mention all those hours and minutes that will have to pass on Friday before I do see it. So unfair.
I have a hard time believing I'm going to have more fun with this than Rambo but anything is possible I suppose.
"Stevenson gets a couple of actorly moments... ...but he's mostly business here, and his business is blowing motherfuckers away."

Smooth!

I am officially waiting for the Moltisanti seal of approval on this.
Awesome. Thanks for turning this film around.
Can't fucking wait.
Let the SUPERHEROHYPE riots begin.
I've read some other reviews and the main complaint seems to be about Jigsaw. Not serious enough! He makes....ohgod....JOKES!
Remember, comic movies are serious business. The Outrageous Ham I saw from him really got me excited about the movie

And is this really 80 minutes? Moviefone and other places say it's 107.
Lionsgate should send you a check Devin because I guarantee I'm not the only one who has completely changed his mind on this after reading your review. And hey, at least you won't be known as the the guy who liked Fantastic Four more than Batman Begins anymore....
27 minute post-credits sequence with NICK FURY AND THUNDERBOLT ROSS.
I'm glad to hear about West, because what they show of him in the trailers doesn't look promising. I was expecting a Two-Face/Tommy Lee Jones like performance. Sounds like that's not the case.

Oh and the 'batfans' are never going to forgive you. Should be fun to watch ...

I could be wrong on the running time. I didn't look it up, went on memory of reading it elsewhere. Journalism!
God damn it. Now I want to see this. Had zero interest in it until this review, but now Devin has me curious about it. Nonetheless, I still chuckle a little thinking about that first trailer, and the whole "Ray Stevenson...IS...The Punisher!" All I could think was, "Who the fuck is Ray Stevenson?" Still, this sounds like this could be big, dumb bloody action movie of the year, a la Crank or Shoot 'em Up, the kind of cinematic junk food all good movie nerds need every now and then.
Yeah, most places have it at 107.

Time flies when you are having fun ... then again drunk people don't have a good sense of time.

All that means to me is you weren't busy looking at your watch the entire time because the movie was keeping you interested.

"107? It felt like 80!" - Devin Faraci CHUD.com.
Awesome. Guess I better put the kids to bed early Friday night.

They didn't play the GAME trailer in front of this, by any chance?
Dug.
Is West funny when his face isn't covered with prosthetics?
I read that his character thinks he's the most beautiful man alive before the tragic glass crusher incident.

Yeah, his name is Billy the Beaut. He's playing it pretty fucking broad before the accident as well.
Awesome. I'm gonna have to drive outta town, but I think a Milk/Punisher double-feature is in order.

I live in a dinky town, so I have to drive 2 hours at least to pair this shit up if I wanna see it at all.
107 mins seems to be accurate - I guess Devin really thought it moved fast!

I will go see this for Pullo and McNulty.

Those of you who don't know who Ray Stevenson is, really need to watch ROME. I mean, at one point, they sail on a RAFT OF CORPSES!!!

I would like to say that The Punisher fixing his broken nose with a pencil goes into a future CHUD Ten Best Self-Surgery Scenes list.
DAmn, i want that list now. Javier Bardem in No Country for the win! Or Tom Hanks with the tooth.
Oh hells yes. It's these reviews, the Rambos, the Cranks, that I await eagerly on this site. You guys always come up with inventive ways of portraying mayhem, kudos. Can't wait.
Arnie with the eye and hand anyone?
Was only in this for Valhalla, but Devin's review has me stoked.

Friday night better get the fuck here.

Looks like the negative geek reviews will be coming from the 'Comic books are serious business!' crowd.
The 'Pan's Labyrinth' cheek surgery wins, but let's not derail the moment of glory for P:WZ.

How would a REAL man with a horrific quilt face act in that situation?
You mean the people who compared The Punisher to Taxi Driver?
Because I'm that kind of guy, I'll supplement Devin's review by adding that Doug Hutchison is in this.
I like that his movie has gotten Devin so giddy he's pretty much doing the twenty questions thing he normally despises. Which makes me angry that I have to wait for this son of a bitch till March 29th.
Any time I ever saw Jigsaw in the comic he was pretty much a one-dimensional nut who just wanted to butcher up the Punisher's face. Don't see why him being a one-dimensional nut in the film should be a problem, so long as he's an extra-zany nut.

Unless of course there was some "revolutionary" mini-series I missed where the comic tried to examine the humanity of Jigsaw or some crap like that.

He's okay in it. He plays Jigsaw's brother, Looney Bin Jim, who is one of those short ultra-crazy types. I wish they had someone with a touch more flair, but Hutchinson is really overshadowed by McNulty.

Why yes, I am! Now I'm I'm going to see a movie I had no interest in until now.

Feb 26 here. So I'm not going to get too excited yet.
I had so much fucking fun with this movie. I don't think there was a five-minute stretch where I wasn't cackling.

The pencil nose fix, Grandma Hamburger, Mark Camacho's execution, Castle punching through a kid's face DEAD ALIVE style...all of it. Great gory fun.

haha, that kid who I called KD Lang. He was at the premiere party. Looking like KD Lang.
Glad to hear that Marvel could throw out a good action flick, especially after that terribly sterile Hulk.
I think I've also spotted KD.

That's one of his more masculine moments.

He played a big part in a recent War Journal arc where he was fixated on being Frank Castle and had set up a little fangroup of punisher wannabes who were going about being a nuisance and was also at the end of the recent Punisher issue too so i expect a little resurgence while this film is being promoted.

He's not the best character so West running with it does makes sense.

Cor blimey that's a bold statement.I might have to use it to sell the film to my mates."Some chap said it was...
Just wondering, what was it about the gestation process that made the unholy kickass-ness of this movie such a revelation? Seems like of all the information that kept leaking out (real or not), the most important thing that didn't make it was that it was actually really fucking entertaining.

I guess my point is, it seems really late in the game for the fact that this movie works to be brought to the table, as if it might have been building more buzz had someone not dropped the ball. Anyone else get that feeling? RAMBO was similarly surprising, but I don't remember that movie getting shit on once footage started making the rounds.
I thought there was a big brouhaha over the film being taken out of the directors hands?Which lead to some doubt over the direction of the film.

There was. She yelled at me re: our reporting of that brouhaha last night.
Given her background I'd be glad that she didn't give you a roundhouse kick.
