Uncharted 2

Looks like we are going to get an Uncharted 2 next year. They are teasing a teaser trailer that will air during the Video Game Awards on Dec. 14. I'm not going to watch them, but I will hit Game Trailers up after the fact.

This is one of my favorite PS3 games so I'll definitely be interested to see what they do in 2. I'm kind of worried about spending the whole time in the snow but maybe they'll do a better job of mixing up different locations in this one.

Game Informer blurb.

The new PlayStation 3 title will add a free climbing mechanic and stealth gameplay. Players can also expect all-new locations, characters and a focus on the game’s story.

Looking forward to this game. One of my favorite PS3 games so far. I think this game would really benefit from some co-op play. I hope they make Elena a playable character.

Friend of mine is working on this and he's pretty psyched about it. I like what I've seen in that teaser, but I'm worried about a whole lot of slippery, irritating ice levels. Naughty Dog doesn't tend to be stupid when it comes to stuff like that, so I'm optimistic.

Now if the buzz builds well on this, maybe Sony will decide to really get their movie version going...

Yeah, I have hope that Naughty Dog won't do a bunch of cheap-shot stuff. The increase in stealth and change in climbing makes it seem like it might be taking some cues from Assassin's Creed.

Still, I loved the game and am excited to see how much better a sequel could be with 2 years of work.
Absolutely adore Uncharted, by far my favorite PS3 game still. Kotaku said something about stealth missions though. Not feeling good about that.
See, I'd like to play this game, but IT'S THE ONLY FUCKING REASON I WOULD BUY A PS3.

I'll disagree and say that there are a number of good games for PS3 (Resistance 2, LBP, Killzone 2, GoW III, MGS4, a bunch of PSN games) but I do think it's hard to justify spending $400 for access to just a couple of games and Blu-ray functionality if you already own a 360.

That said, the first Uncharted was great and I can't wait to see some in game footage for this. I don't think the 'stealth' sections will be too bad and I did start to feel bad about shooting so many people in the face.

Loved UNCHARTED. I thought it was the best Indiana Jones sequel never made. I'm there.

And apparently the teaser was rendered using their in-game cutscene engine. I'm impressed, the snow effects looked really good.
The first game is my favorite (only) PS3 game so I'm really looking forward to this. I figured it'd be 2010 before we saw a sequel. This is one of the few games I won't mind seeing turned into a regular series, assuming the quality keeps up of course.
New impressions posted on every major gaming site today - and it's sounding/looking good... maybe I'm biased due to my (unfaltering) love of the first game, but this already looks like the one to beat this year.

New abilities, a greater variety of locales, and a longer quest = good times for all. Not even a sass-mouthed Australian bint can dampen my enthusiasm.

I'm disappointed that they're going the 'new love interest every time' route a la Indiana Jones but besides that, everything I've read looks great. This will be a must-buy for me as well.

Joystiq has a 5 page interview up here.

Quite an interesting read. They've basically abandoned the SIXAXIS controls by mapping grenades to their own button and taking out log balancing. I wonder how much longer until Sony just stops including that functionality in the controllers as a cost-saving measure.

As for the story, they're saying it's 2-3 years after the first and that Sully and Elena are not in it at all. Also, they're saying that they're focusing on making it the best single-player game they can. So it's sounding like there may not be a co-op mode in it either.

The improvements to the wall climbing mechanic will be appreciated though. The jumping from ledge to ledge in the first was a bit ridiculous sometimes. They're also aiming to not have an install with the game either which I definitely appreciate. If the two best looking PS3 games, Uncharted and Killzone 2 can get by sans-install I'd hope other developers would make more of an effort.

The screenshots for this look amazing. Can't wait to see it in motion.
Yeah, can't wait for this. It's the one property I actually wouldn't mind seeing a movie about.

I don't know that there's any point to making a movie of it. The game basically IS a movie. Like the guy says in the interview (calling it a girlfriend-game) that people actually just enjoy watching you play.

Obviously you could turn it into a movie, but what's the point? It'd be basically the same story but not interactive. I'd rather they develop more Uncharted games than spend the same amount to just make something that I can only sit there and watch.
No Sully or Elena is a disappointment to me, but just cause I loved the whole cast with the first game. If the new characters rock, then bring em on....Uncharted is my fav PS game of all time, and Naughty Dog knows what they are doing

Well, I actually just watched a second interview that then implied that Sully would be back (nothing about Elena htough). Ah well, I trust that it'll still be a great experience as long as whoever is voicing the new female lead, Chloe, is actually Australian and not just faking an accent.
Loved the first one and will probably play it through a third time before the next one comes out. My expectations are high but Naughty Dog can do it.

Also, now that the Indy game I've been waiting since 2006 years for is only coming out on the Wii, Drake will have to make up for that. Maybe they can put a whip in there as a hidden unlockable.
As much as I loved Uncharted (been playing through it for the 2nd time on hard), I think Naughty dog need to put some kind of multiplayer component into the 2nd one. Deathmatch (Gears style) or Co-op would be fantastic. T

Let's hope they marry two of my favorite nerdy things and get Yvonne Strahovski to voice the character.

It'd be a waste to just get voiceover from her though.

Uh oh, it's looks like Uncharted 2 is going to have some freakin' multiplayer!!! As long as it's co-op this game will move from 'must buy day one' to 'will actively hunt down and try to find a store that accidentally broke street date and put it out early.'

All you have to do is buy inFamous to get access to the multiplayer beta ... I hope this is a Crackdown type thing where the game they're bundling it with is actually pretty decent. I don't know that this will even convince me to buy inFamous (since I know I'm buying Uncharted 2 anyway) but it does edge me a bit closer.
I submitted it as news yesterday I think, heard there are co-op modes seperate from the SP.

I don't mind having a separate co-op mode than main campaign. It can make playing the campaign quite frustrating if you're trying to deal with AI instead of an actual human being.

I don't mind the way GRAW or Resistance 2 did it where co-op mode uses many of the same mechanics as standard but is its own thing. Of course I also love Army of Two so either way really works for me.
Wow, that's pretty cool news. The multiplayer, I mean. I hope it's mostly co-op but I think they could do some interesting competitive gametypes given the play mechanics of the game. It'd be neat to see some kind of "solve this platforming puzzle" first mode.
I was always really impressed with the AI of the NPCs in the first one, especially comapred to games like GOW.

I just hope adding co-op doesn't detract from it.

Kotaku's got their impressions up here. ETA: And Joystiq co-op impressions here.

It definitely sounds like the multiplayer stuff isn't really incorporated with the main single player mode at all. They have special co-op stuff and standard PvP stuff though. I just hope they don't cut development time on the single player at all to add this stuff in.
Sweet, its going to have online 3 player co-op, man its a good year to have the PS3.
That looks wonderful. I know it was expecting too much, but a little part of me was disappointed it wasn't split-screen. I understand why it's not, but it'd have been great to play it with the Mrs.

Yeah, I'd definitely like to be able to play it occasionally with my 360-only friends when they come over.
Perhaps it's time to buy a second PS3 for the bedroom.
You know, I can't tell you the last time I played a multiplayer video game with someone else in the room that wasn't Rock Band. Shit, man. Those goddamn controllers are as much as a fucking game! Split screen died for me with Halo 2 and I have a much better time playing with friends who live not next door to me than I ever did split screen.

Well, ok. Some of those Goldeneye/Halo 1/Crimson Skies nights were pretty special...

Anyway. Uncharted 2. Fuck yeah. Looks intense. Oh, here's some video. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48500.html
post #34 of 534
All I wanted from Uncharted 2 was some co-op and they go beyond those expectations and give me some multiplayer too. Day 1 purchase yet again.

I'd agree, if it weren't for an assortment of very high quality PSN/XBL titles that employ splitscreen beautifully. It's full-price retail titles that have really dropped the ball - CoD4's a prime example of including the feature (wonderfully) and gimping it compared to the online multiplayer.

There's an engagement you get from being in the same room as the people you're competing against that you'll never get from mere voice comms.

Burn Zombie Burn's a prime example of this done right.

Split screen is also a great way to sell an apprehensive friend on a title. It's what convinced me to pick up Left 4 Dead, Army of Two, and GRAW.

I'm behind on everything because of Tribeca, but here's my thoughts (and a video detailing the multiplayer a bit more)- http://chud.com/articles/articles/19...YER/Page1.html

I don't believe this is an "official" video release, but here's something to watch.

http://www.thekoalition.com/uncharte...zone-gameplay/

Looks...pretty fucking awesome. Riot shield! Quips! Guns! Stealth kills! Truck chasing!
Holy shit is that nice.
I don't consider myself a graphics whore by any means but, good lord, this game looks beautiful. If they can keep the same gameplay with a few more big setpieces, this could be GOTY material. I'm anticipating this game as much as I am Bioshock 2.
"Ahh nice parking job.."

They do a great job making Drake extremely likable. Normally I hate pun-dropping heroes... This game looks amazing.
Yeah, I've been putting off my PS3 purchase, hoping they'd do a hardware fix that addresses the problem with upscaling on 540p/1080i sets, but now that I have a second full 1080p set I may have to break down and treat myself to a PS3 for my birthday next month.

That game looks great, and I've been really wanting to play the first one as well. Sony needs to promote this new one big-time, it could definitely be a system-seller.
Just downloaded the beta, it's up already btw, and I started the game to see if the servers were live already and they are. I was able to join a co-op game. I love this game.
Oh shit, I just got a beta code in the e-mails! To the download tubes!

Not beta-fied here but I'd just like to remark again how friggin' amazing the video during the Sony presentation was. Cannot wait for this game.

Hopefully you guys will be able to give some more impressions.
Not only nice parking job, but just before that when Drake falls through the floor. Very very Indy kind of reaction, Drake is my favorite video game character of this new generation for sure.
So Rob and I got into a co-op game. I must say the game still controls as well as before. I noticed no difference. I did have to remember what all the buttons did though, but that didn't take long and I got right back into the groove. The game is gorgeous and I like that cash takes the place of an XP system. Fits with the game. The enemies surround you as well, just because you entered an area from one end, doesn't mean that the enemies won't spawn from there. I'll be playing this a lot, feel free to invite me into a game or tell me to stop playing inFAMOUS and join you.

The thing that really strikes me as out of place in this though is that your character isn't wearing any kind of armor at all ... given that, you feel like a single shot from a mounted machine gun should probably come close to killing you.

I know it's not realistic to expect body armor to actually protect you that well but there's this cognitive dissonance when I watch guys in t-shirts (including Drake) wandering around and getting shot multiple times in the chest without going down.
I'm jealous.

I see where you're coming from Nachos. In fairness, on the toughest difficulty on the original Uncharted you couldn't really take any punishment.
Yeah, Bruce and I tore it up last night. So much fucking fun. Doing the co-op is great, but I need to remember that I can climb up pretty much anything to get a better vantage point. I was almost playing it like a FPS. Once I stopped, the game became awesome. This is a day one buy.
