Uncharted 2 - Page 9

I'll be in there soon enough to show you amateurs how it's done.

Bruce does hold his own quite well though in the co-op.

Yeah, I'd be up for some CHUD multiplayer sometime. I got an invite from Bruce yesterday but between my headset's battery dying and out-of-game distractions I ended up being on and off sporadically.

I'm not going to open up that whole "Video games = Art?" debate, but I will say that the UNCHARTED games have stories that are as compelling as any action movie, even if sometimes they get hokey. I'm really enjoying this one so far.
The game is pretty interesting in the way it melds the story and the game play. There's obviously some high quality cutscenes. There is also semi-interactive scenes (like Elena and Nate escaping after the cameraman dies) where it may aswell be a cutscene since there is so little choice in gameplay, but still allows you to take part. And in full gameplay segmants, the world is still very immersive and Nate is still in character (making quips, etc) that it provides a strong connection to the story. With these elements it's harder to know if you are playing a game, progressing a story or doing both simultaneously.

I don't think it necessarily means "Games are art". It means that talented developers, storytellers and artists can come together to make a massively entertaining package that works across both story and game various aspects, while blurring the line between the two.
It's amazing how shitty some people are at the co-op, especially Arena. They just stand out in the open in the middle of the map and expect not to die every five seconds. Did they not play the game? Do they not know about the cover system?

Rant over.
This game is just amazing and the Multiplayer is fun as hell.

It was everything MGS4 tried to achieve, but failed to. Like the difference between a well written movie, and one filled with needless characters who exist only to rattle off exposition.

Or shit themselves. Or ogle dead tit. Or walk for five feet and go into another goddamn fucking 45-minute cutscene. Or run around like a retard while getting blasted because the control scheme is still horribly archaic.

...sorry....

yeah, given how little you make from co-op if you don't complete a scenario I may finally make some money
post #411 of 538
I'm only halfway through Drake's Fortune, but please tell me the enemies are.. well... more killable (yeah, yeah, easier) in the sequel. I'm playing normal, popped four shotguns shells into a guy's chest, and he still wouldn't go down.
Sorta, but not really. The guys in U2 are wearing some body armor (as opposed to a pirate in a t-shirt), so it's a bit more believable that they take a few shots. A close range shotgun in the general head/chest region usually one shots on normal difficulty.

There's other aspects that make it a bit easier. Blind firing works much better and some melee moves (sneak, from higher ground) also one shot.

Mind you, there's a boss later [on the train before it crashes] in the game who takes a ridiculous amount of gunfire.
I found the enemies in 2 to be a lot easier to kill. Like, you can take down 2-3 with a clip from an AK as opposed to the first one where it would take what seemed like 18 clips to take down one dude. And shotguns, especially blind fire running shotguns are rape. To the enemy AND you.
Yeah, they're easier.

Man, I still cannot beat the co-op. I think I've tried with my friend at least 9 times and we've completed 1 co-op level once... on easy. I don't think I'm THAT horrible but man. Only 3 tries per level makes it so hard.

Hook up with Bruce Wayne. Play with Batman all weekend and you'll be rolling in the dough.
Holy shit this game is brilliant. Best game of this generation, easily. Being hunted by a town destroying tank, all one should want in life... How long is the sp?

Yeah, I haven't even played with him directly and I've still heard that dude slays hard in U2 multi.

26 chapters methinks. I'm in 23 or 24 and like I said earlier, I don't want it to end.

I hit chapter 22 a week or so ago and haven't put it back in because I know there are only a few more levels left, and it's too good to end.
I think the campaign took me about 11-12 hours to complete. That was with looking for treasures and I still missed 24.

I haven't played the co-op yet but I take it they ramped up the difficulty since the beta? I didn't have any trouble beating the beta mission on normal with a couple people.
Thread Starter
They're a lot longer. The Beta co-op scenario is only about 1/3 or 1/2 of full length co-op missions.
Oh, wow. That's pretty cool, I think. The beta scenario was pretty short. I'll have to give it a shot this weekend since it's double XP.

I beat it one time. It was on the map with that green truck wrecked there. At one end of the map there is a two story building that we stayed in and shot those fuckers as they came in. We almost didn't' make it, as one of my teammates and myself bought it at the last minute. The last remaining dude was able to put down the last two armored fuckers that have those GAUs. We barely made it.

Otherwise I've only made it to 10th level and then bought the farm.

I played co-op twice today- once on the Nepal city level with randoms (easy difficulty) and once on Tenzin's village with BruceWayne and a random (normal difficulty). I beat both levels with relatively no problem. The team died quite a bit more on the Normal difficulty but I don't think we were ever in real danger of not finishing.

Normal does seem a lot harder than easy, though. More regular bad guys and a LOT more of the big bastards.

Wow, I guess I do just suck. Most of the times we die on a level it's usually because one of us died and the other goes to revive or one of is is down and one of those choker guys gets the other.

I think if you're playing with just 2 people it's way to easy to have all of the players down simultaneously. I've yet to try 3 player so I'm still really wondering if that would really make the difference.
Oh, it would totally make a difference. There were a few times on the Nepal level where two of us were being choked out and the third had to play savior. I think it would be pretty tough with just two people. You'd have to play back-to-back the entire time.
When you guys talk about co-op are you playing it with a friend online? I guess I'll move to co-op online and hope the lag is cool, since I beat the sp. Man, I can't remember the last time I was addicted to a videogame in this manner. The game is just badass. The game fully vindicates the outrageous price I paid for my PS3.
I've been playing the 3-player co-op online with random peeps. It helps to have a third person there to save your goat when you need it.

I tried to get my shit on last night but I was have some major connection issues and my zombie dude just stood there and waited to get shot. I couldn't control him when my connection was on shitter.
Yeah I got a bit of lag when I played on the weekend. It seems like the controller stops working (but it is, you can still pause and go into the menus) and you are standing there while everyone shoots you.

Not sure if it's my connection at fault. Haven't really had this issue with things like Killzone 2.
This is the only game that seem to have that problem with.

Another pointer for the coop team play - stick together. It's a pain in the ass when that lone dude goes out to the other side of the map by himself. You can't reach him to revive him and he can't get back to you to revive you. One guy kept doing that last night. We didn't last long.

Yeah, the trouble is if you're too close then you're just getting in each others' way. Especially when guys yell, "Flush them out!" and throw their grenades with ridiculous pinpoint accuracy.

That's one of the most annoying facets of the game actually. You're taking cover and random grunt X can throw a grenade so that it lands exactly on top of the little wall you're hiding behind? That's happened to me pretty much every time I've been pinned down. Even the armored chaingun guys can underhand through grenades with pinpoint accuracy.
Good games this weekend. I still need to get past round 10 in the Survival mode Co-Op Arena. I'm hooked.
Damnit I get lag whenever I play this online. It's the first PS3 game I've played online wirelessly, a necessity since my new house has the cable modem downstairs, I'm pretty sure it is the cause for the lag.
Ok, beat Uncharted 2 on Crushing. Personally, Uncharted 2 was easier than Uncharted 1 on Hard mode. On Crushing, part 2 was much, much harder (to me)....

Love this game

Nabster, I am using a wired connection - no lag issues at all.....

You're right, you don't want to be standing on top of each other, just stay in the same general vicinity at least.

I had some good matches this weekend too, but their matchmaking system gets the best of me. I think I'm just spoiled from COD online and the others that I play. Quick turnarounds and then back in the game. I can't get that to work in U2 online.
Just beat the single player tonight and I loved it. The gunplay is good but the characters really make this an amazing game. The interactions feel much more genuine than your typical game and it even make you like the bad guys. I especially liked the banter in the last scene, that back and forth was great.

It may be because all the connections are cutting up the bandwidth, going to have to make sure my gf and sister are not doing anything on their comps before I play this online. Trying to complete it on hard first, and man it is pretty tough if you ask me, I can't even fathom crushing, I just suck at hard games. That Demon Souls game sounds awesome, I love that random online players can enter into your game to mess with you, but the difficulty scares me.

Just a quick note: Amazon has this for $50 now. So if any of you guys ordered it from them, all you have to do is contact support and they SHOULD refund the difference back to you. I've just sent them an email but I've done this several times within a month of my initial purchase and always gotten the difference back.

ETA: Nevermind. Apparently they've changed their policy on this ... just got an email rejecting my claim.

Good. Cuz outside of that, I fucking adore this game on so many levels.
Got this last tuesday, and didn't get to play it until sunday. Just finished it up a little while ago, and IT WAS AWESOME. Nathan Drake has become pretty much my favorite videogame character ever. Each level surpassed the last in it's quality.

The train level that we got a taste of in the beginning didn't fail to live up to anything other than greatness, and every time I jumped over a truck, I kept thinking of Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Lazarevic during the final boss battle wasn't very hard, but I thought that was good as it added to the fun. Him yelling "DDDDDRRRRRAAAAKKKKKKEEEEEE!!!!" at the top of his lungs added to that.

Definitely a sequel that lives up and even exceeds the original game. I can't wait for them to make a 3rd one.
Yahtzee's clearly just being deliberately contrary this week.
I enjoyed the game a lot and it's extremely polished. Having said that I agree with a lot of Yahtzees points. In particular, the huge amount of killing Nathan Drake does works against the character.
Drake's not exactly running through an airport knocking off little old ladies; he's killing mercenaries who are trying to kill him in any means possible. Hell, he even makes a point of just knocking the museum guards unconscious because they're just doing their jobs.

If it was all stealth and fisticuffs many players would complain as well. I think they hit a great balance myself.
And I still think a lot of people don't really "get" Yahtzee. Uncharted 2 is one of the best reviewed PS3 games EVER, considered to be a system-seller by many, and in the comments section under Yahtzee's review you'll read things like "Oh, I thought this was supposed to be a good game. Thanks for saving me $60, Yahtzee!"

The guy takes the piss out of big games in a hilarious fashion, but his reviews are hardly meant to be taken seriously. But of course we've had that conversation elsewhere.

It's not so much that it's bad act, it's the sheer quantity. Indiana Jones kills maybe 20-30 people over the course of an adventure. Nathan Drake must have killed near 500. The bad guy even makes a point of it at the end.

I think it's a fundamental problem with cinematic-style video games. They'd like us to relate to the heroes... but lots of video games involve bucket loads of killing.

Regarding ZP reviews, I think the criticisms often have a ring of truth to them. He serves as a good counterpoint to the overhyping in the regular game press. I wouldn't avoid a game based on his opinion alone, but I'll certainly take it into consideration.
