The Connecting Thread: A film by Carly Petrusky and Patrick Ripoll

Carly needed to make a short film for her film studies class, so we decided to adapt the story "The Connecting Thread" from Adrian Tomine's Optic Nerve #2 comic.

It was made under considerable time and technical constraints, but in the end I'm pretty proud of the job we did. Special thanks goes out to actress Krystal "Kay" Dean for waking up very early multiple days just do us a favor.

Check it out.

Good work.

I thought Mood Indigo came in a little too loud at the start, but it mellowed out there. Overpowered the narration a smidge. But, it kept that nice vibe.

Thanks!

And I agree with you about the music overpowering the narration at times. All post production was done in Window's Movie Maker, so the levels were a constant struggle to try to balance.

I keep nitpicking at it, but I think it's pretty good considering the factors and constraints.

I couldn't have done it without Patrick, that's for damn sure.

Well, it's a damn fine work.

I liked it.
The Topher Grace thing made me laugh.

Patrick, do you always walk like that?

Nicely Done Pat, Carly. I dig it.

Honestly, the only thing that could be fixed is the audio stuff mentioned above, but it's always hard to deal with ambiances and low-fi audio.

I understand how tough it is not to be nitpicky when it comes together, but it turned out very nice.

I walk on my toes. Always have. It's why I have such attractive (read: GIANT) calves. Also, it may be the reason why I like to walk around my house in high heels and practice whistling at sailors. Then again, it may not be.

Just finished watching this film.

Well done, Patrick. Very well done indeed.

Oh... happy birthday by the way.

Thanks everybody, it really means a lot. We're definitely gonna be making more in the future, so it's good to know that there's some interest.

Good job! I really enjoyed that.

Good stuff! I've always found those notices in the paper to be a little creepy, and this captured that without going over the top.

Pleased to inform you that The Connecting Thread won an Oscar [a cardboard popcorn goodie bag with an Oscar statue glued to it and a box of Butterfinger Mini's] for Best Editing. Hooray!

Deserved recognition on a job well done.
