Saddam Hussein + The Godfather = Gold

I know the thing is about as accurate as a broken watch, but I don't care.

I love this miniseries.

Seemed like it needed a larger budget to give it a little more context. In terms of this informing Western audiences I wish they'd played up his American connections more, and I wish we saw a little bit more of what Iraq was like for people outside his inner circle. I thought the propaganda film about his assassin days was a nice nod to the filmmakers' limitations.

Is it really extremely inaccurate? I know very little about his reign. I know the American ambassador saying, "We don't get involved in Arab-Arab conflicts" is true, as are some of the events in the coming attractions. Said Tagmaoui is consistently good whenever I see him, and looking him up on Imdb, he's in G.I. Joe. He is ridiculously overqualified to play Breaker.

I haven't seen it yet; it's sitting on my DVR. I just wanted to add to the Said Tagmaoui love. He was awesome in Three Kings.

"What the hell is wrong with Michael Jackson? You know, me man, the king of pop? Hoo-hoo, hee-hee."

I don't think Saddam would have hugged his friend like that and immediately blow his brains out. The movie feels a little like a rip off of the Godfather movies.

A sadistic version of Dallas. I love it!

Uday Hussein as Sonny Corleone quoting Arnold Schwarzenegger's Spanish catchphrase from T2... it's, uh, possible.

I can find google references to "The Terminator" being found in his private library of videotapes (although, sadly, not T2). Uday did actually beat his father's valet to death at a party.

I haven't finished this series, but it certainly establishes a process for working in the Hussein dictatorship: being paranoid, killing someone, being killed.
