Looks like we lost the first thread in last year's wipe.

But it's coming!

Hum, i'm incredibly ashamed to admit that even being a HUGE Tim Schaffer fan... i never knew Pshyconauts was his baby! Bad on me. So so bad.

I just don't like Jack Black in general . So i can't say i'm super psyched for this one. But the Schaffer mantle is big on me. Huge.
This game could literally be so awesome, that my head will explode.
Fuck yeah, EA.

I'm very excited about this. Even if it doesn't come out for the PC I'll buy it and rent a 360 to play it.

Isn't it strange how EA changed almost overnight from a Borg-like boogieman to this protector of original ideas? I really hope their strategy pays off. Then maybe the other big publishers will give some new IPs a try.

When I was told that news my head almost exploded from keeping it in. Then I broke down and told a cousin of mine and he said "Brutal what? Schafter who?" and I wept for humanity.

The game's still a while off but this has got to be my most anticipated one of next year... besides Heavy Rain.
Man, I am so happy that this game didn't get screwed over. Been looking forward to this for a while.

Two years ago, the news that EA was getting this would have been shitty, but lately, they've been good to their properties.
Fucking yes....can barely keep my smile from ripping my face apart right now over this news.
Here's hoping the soundtrack and humour in it is pure awesomeness, but Schaefer has never let me down...hell, I played Full Throttle a lot as a teen.
It's about fucking time!! Can't wait for this!!
Tim Schafer is one of a handfull of actual geniouses making games and certainly my favorite. If you look at all the games he's worked on there is only one with a number in its title and it's Monkey Fucking Island 2. How could I not support such a guy. Even if he makes Tim Schafer's Sudoku I'll buy it sight unseen. I could never stomach how criminally underselling Psychonauts was.
I also find it interesting that Schafer talked about possibly putting guitar control compatibility in, and then goes from Activision to EA. Full-blown tie-in incoming?
Electronic Arts ... FTW? Has a company so loathed ever done so many things right in a two or three month span (Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Brutal Legend ... etc).

Still, I don't expect this game before next holiday season, at the earliest, so it's hard to get TOO excited.

Lemmy Kilmeister is voicing "The Killmaster". So, you know, I wouldn't worry.
Fantastic news - Schafer is truly one of the greats.
The greatest.
Carmack, Wright and a few more are close in level. But Schafer kinda wins.
I'll buy any Tim Schaffer game sight unseen, but I'm not thrilled with the whole "heavy metal warrior" schtick, and Jack Black is beyond tired.

Still, Ima gonna get it.

Listen to the last third to hear Tim talk about Psychonauts. He's such a naturally funny guy, it's a fantastic session.

This is the first thing I thought about when I saw the headline. Controlling this with the RB strat. It might not be the best way to control the game but it would be most awesome way.

Love the new trailer. That's both a personal opinion and a command.

That slices all kinds of awesome. Any trailer with Dr. Feelgood all over it is win in my opinion. But what does the actual game entail? Is it, (as i hope it won't turn out to be), just a generic wander round hitting things, Golden Axe style game?

They should sequalize Full Throttle. That was the tits.
It's Tim Shafer, there's always something more to his games. Can't wait for this one. Great use of Crue.
It looks awesome. I can't freaking wait!
Really, I shouldn't even watch trailers. It's not like I'd say no to a Schafer game.
This could very well be the best game ever.
Awesome trailer. I would love to see something like that shown before a movie at theaters. People would go nuts over it.
Funny. Should be a kickass game.

I wonder what the game's soundtrack will be.

Oh, it's already going to be sick. They're getting new music (!) from Dio, Sabbath, Priest, and the soundtrack's going to have new solos by Priest's guitarists (Downing and Tipton). Halford, Lemmy, Lita Ford... they're all going to be in the game.

There are going to be tons of references for metal fans in this game... I can't wait to come back here and start pointing them out with you folks when it hits.
*brain goes into metal meltdown*

I want this damn game NOW.
After the brilliant Psychonauts,I'm forever a big fan of Tim Schafer. Such a ridiculously gifted and imaginative dude. This game looks quite fucking awesome - a great unique change of pace from all the damn shooters out there. Can't say that I'm a hardcore metal fan, though. But it still looks awesome nonetheless.

There hasn't been a ton of information released yet, but it's not just a straightforward beat-em-up. Most of it is open-world, and you recruit characters (like the headbangers in the trailer) to join the resistance along the way.
This game was made just so it could make my brain explode. I need to finish Physconauts stat.
Well considering I class the first two Monkey Islands and Full Throttle as 3 of my favorite games of all time, there's simply no way I'm not all over this.

This looks a hundred kinds of awesome.
I love love love the "war" dynamic. Lars and his sister are waging war against General Lionheart and his "hair metal" army. That's hilariously awesome.
And I really can't stand the hate for Jack Black. He's a little much here and there but he chooses to do the right stuff, and man, this role was designed with him in mind. When Lars Ulrich asks him what you do with a bunch of kids who just want to head bang all day, and he responds "You start a revolution, Lars..." like he's about to choke out a tear... Had me on the floor.

Schafer's doing a live twitter Q&A next week- http://chud.com/articles/articles/19...END/Page1.html
post #36 of 646
I'm glad there will be some Peter McConnell scoring in this, as well as all the metal. I've never stopped listening to the Grim Fandango and Psychonauts OSTs.

Speaking of, anyone try playing Grim Fandango in Vista? I'm wondering what sort of animal sacrifices I'm going to need to make it order to get it running, cause I'm feeling the need to run through it again.
I didn't have any problems. But I've always done this thing where I rip all the movies and shit off the discs and put them in a folder for the game to access which makes everything run faster. I'll dig around and see if I can find the link for how to do it.

I love Grim Fandango so much. One of my favorite games of all time. And Brutal Legend, while it might not steal the title, looks fuckawesome.

Bold prediction: this game will be released in the Oct-January maelstrom and have its guts torn out by AAAA franchises, thereby ensuring this is the last game Tim Schafer ever has creative control over.

Cause, you know, that seems to be how things work out for him.
I say if it comes out in October is does gangbusters.

Not that bold a prediction, it's already been announced to hit in "Rocktober." But I think you're wrong about how well it will do. Sure, the AAA titles are going to pile up but people are incredibly fucking excited for this one. The buzz is already pretty huge among people who have never heard of Schafer before, perhaps due to Jack Black's involvement and the popularity of Guitar Hero making the imagery cool again. After Psychonauts none of the sites are going to let up on letting people know about it, and if it turns out to be a great game you know we're all going to pimp it like nothing else.

And yet it will still top all year-end lists.

If EA continues marketing this correctly, your prediction might not come to pass. As is stands, though, I'm convinced that the average 360 owner would much rather throw grenades at aliens than play through another brilliant Schafer game.

I actually have to say, I'm a bit disappointed by how EA's marketing it. I've heard from some people of incredible ideas that were thrown out because they wanted to pump the mainstream for this one. That's why we're getting Jack Black commercials and such. Might make sense for them in the long run, but we shall see...

Have felt the same urge to play it recently. I'm still on XP though.
I don't remember how Majesco marketed Psychonauts, but EA may very well be reacting to lackluster sales of that game by marketing BL to a mainstream audience. I've enjoyed what I've seen so far, but I'm also pretty sure that the videos have been a little de-Schafered for a mainstream audience. Which might be the best way to sell this to a crowd who's more interested in blowing up space invaders than laughing at Robert Frost jokes.

I wish my prediction was wrong. But it won't be. This may have had a chance if given room to breathe in an otherwise empty month, but in October? I hope it was cheap to make.

Yeah, do what mediumdave said. I did the same, and god I still love that game.
I'm just pre-ordered this through Gamestop from Canada? Why? Because of this:

Quote:
Get ready Ironheades,

EA™, developers Double Fine Productions™, and Tenacious D have worked with GameStop to create an exclusive in-game guitar available to all players who pre-order the upcoming heavy metal action game Brütal Legend before the game’s launch in North America on Rocktober 13th for the Xbox 360® or Playstation® 3 Computer Entertainment System.

Forged by the evil geniuses at Double Fine in close collaboration with Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, this amazing piece of badness will feature an entirely new and different suite of effects – not only a unique, sexy body inspired by the members of Tenacious D (OMG look at that screenshot), but new sound effects, new voice over work from Jack Black and Kyle Gass, a new visual effects suite, and new geeky technical stuff like unique textures, materials and shaders – trust us, it’s going to rule very, very hard.

This epic guitar will also be seen by other players in multiplayer (which EA and Double Fine will tell you about later). Other players will see you brandishing this guitar and you will vanquish them mightily. Because no-one can destroy the metal!

Pre-order now and be prepared to slay demons and hapless online opponents on Rocktober 13th with this GameStop exclusive. And check out more of the game by viewing Brütal Legend trailers and screenshots at Gamestop.com.
I remember ages ago hearing that Jack and KG wanted to make a Tenacious D videogame...so I guess it's pretty much come to pass with BL. I cannot wait for this come out.
This will be one of the rare games I not only buy, but I pre order.
Same here. Schaefer's pedigree in making insanely entertaining games is second to none and of course being a metalhead this game appeals to me like no other. (Guitar Hero:Metallica? HELL NO.)

I'll always remember when I started FULL THROTTLE up for the first time and the kickass soundtrack by the Gone Jackals kicked in during the intro. Good times man. Good times.
