Seen as the art style suggested David Briggs I was assuming that the music would draw from this influence too. Then it turned out to be a lot of stuff heavier than the stuff I like, hence me balking at the soundtrack. I've actually kind of lost track of what we're arguing about anyways, because as soon as I see the game in motion I'm probably going to preorder the thing despite all the thrash and black metal.

NWOBHM isn't really a genre. NWOBHM is a term coined by Sounds Magazine describing a period from 1979-1981, where new British metal artist began to appear. The most notable of these bands are Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.
There are 4 NWOBHM acts that I can see on the Brutal Legend soundtrack, the aforementioned Def Leppard, Diamond Head, Budgie, and Angel Witch.
Most people when they think of the NWOBHM tend to be thinking of those bands, and possibly Praying Mantis, however, the NWOBHM also featured many bands who would go on to influence thrash, death, and black metal. Venom, for example, is more thrash/death and would become the originators of what would become black metal.
