Brütal Legend - Page 13

I rented this yesterday, and though it may not be the best game ever made, its quite fun and I'm highly enjoying playing it. Which, when you think about it, is all that really matters in the end.

I did love this story moment. BIG SPOILERS.

I agree that it's a good rental but unfortunately I actually paid full price for it on launch.

I'll keep the game, simply because I don't sell back games to the glorified pawn shop that is Gamestop, but I doubt that DLC will be anything but multiplayer maps. I'd love it if they had additional single player content because I think that this world they've created is great and they don't give you nearly enough stuff to do in it. It would be such a shame if what's currently in the game is all you get.
You could always put the game up on eBay.
What starting to do is sell on Craigslist. Basically post that it's cheaper than the GameStop used price and the game is practically new (unless you are one of those people who treats games like mini frisbees).

I've found (where I live) there are a bunch of people who are looking to "get around" GameStop for used games.
Also, it's really cute how they think this game is seriously going to catch on multiplayer.

That's what frustrates me. It would be one thing if they just gave the maps away, but Microsoft charging for them is a kick to the nuts. I'm hoping they realize that any future this game is going to have will be additional single player content, because I've heard simply finding a multiplayer game is hard.

Slight tangent...
I'm not sure about the how it works in the US, but in Australia trading is not worth it.
From EB Games:
$110 - New
$55 - They pay you
$105 - Their second hand price

$6 - rental price.
$44 - Platinum range (low cost games that have sold a lot)

Part of this is EB Games and GAME both have ridiculous pricing structures and part is Australians getting screwed on game prices. We do have other stores (or importers from Hong Kong) that will sell at around $80-90.

So the short answer is, I don't ever trade. If I was unsure on a game I'd rent or simply pick it up 6 months later when it hits the low price range.

Especially since it seems the maps are already on the disk(!). My download was only 100k, which I assume is just a bit of an unlock code.

I'm not sure exactly what their trade-in price is, but around here if a game is $60 new, their used price is $55, and they only give you around $20 for a new game.

To me it's worth the extra $5 to make sure the makers of the game get some money and to get a copy I'm sure nobody has rubbed with their dick. And that's just the used games that are pretty brand new. For a $30 game, they sell a used copy for $28. It's not worth the $2.
I probably only got like $15 when I traded Brutal Legend back in, because believe me they're FLOODED with trade-ins of this game. It's had a really quick turnaround, unsurprisingly.
eBay will still be decent for this.

It's best to put all this behind us.

Should I even finish this? I mean, theres Borderlands, Dragon Age and a lot of Mw2 multiplayer to keep me busy till the January.
I dont give a crap about achievements, but Im actually considering not even finishing this game's story at all.
It's really not a satisfying story on any level. You could probably just figure out how everything goes down from where you are. Like many have said, this game really feels like a whole final act is missing. Of course, it wouldn't take that long at all to finish it up if you just hit the main campaign.

Having played through the whole thing now, I'll admit I had fun, but it was mostly in the first few hours just looking around the world. From a design standpoint the world is really well done. The big problem is just that there's nothing to do in it. I acclimated to the rts controls easily enough, but it's just not a very interesting system to base a game around. Stage battles are way too easy. I don't regret renting it, but I'm really glad I didn't buy it first day like I first planned.

Just finish it. You've probably only got about an hour of story-related gameplay left anyway.

I'll think Ill just finish it this week (not going to bother with extra missions or secrets, since achievements are something i dont give a crap about). then return it at the store to get a bteer deal in store credit (to be used in january).
It almost breaks my fucking heart to return a Tim Schaefer game, though...had the game been just like the demo (no half assed RTS) I would had keep it and treasure it.
Yes, it's frustrating as hell. Heck, I care about achievements (I've got a pretty big OCD part of me) and I was able to get 100% in the game in about 10 hours of play time. Oh well, hopefully Tim will learn from this one.

I rarely trade in games, but in this case, its more out of a sense of being dissapointed; the characters and gameworld are pure bliss for me, but the gameplay ruins that feeling of joy.
i still have no freaking clue why he did go with the RTS stuff; Psychonauts was a kick ass adventure/plattaformer.
Its like he HAD to be original in everything, not just the story and gameworld, and the game turned for the worse because of it; i still say that if the game had been an action/platformer like in the demo, it would had sold like hotcakes.

10 hours? I finished it once on normal, then went back and played it on Brutal difficulty doing pretty much everything. That second run took more than 10 hours and I still didn't get all the serpents. My game completion is around 95% and my trophies is like 50% cause a whole bunch of them are multiplayer oriented.

Regarding the end and the plot, I actually enjoyed the plot more on the second run through. I talked to every character group between every mission and also did all subquests (which do get pretty tedious). Taking that extra time made the story seemed better paced. There is more foreshadowing regarding Ophelia, Eddie's necklace and how the end plays out.

100% completion, not 100% of the achievements. I still haven't really played it multiplayer, and I don't know if I ever will. But yeah, I unlocked all the art, found every serpent, legend, and hidden song, talked to every character, hunted and rode every animal, basically did all the single player stuff possible in about 10 hours. It sucks, because I was planning on this being my big fall game and I complete it in a short amount of time.
Okay, game's been finished (it took like 45 minutes to make the trip to the Sea of Black tears and fight the last 3 battles) Guess its getting traded in, since i dont care about achievements of completition anymore.
Also, im amazed by how little actual strategy those last battles actually took; at least the last "Decapitatioooooooooooooon!" moment was a nice touch.
The last battle is so easy if you just ride around in your car and shoot things until one of the heads falls down. That's all you need to do. Ride around, shoot things, and just set your stage to spit out dudes near the heads and keep making units. No strategy involved whatsoever.

Exactly...also, that Sea of Black Tears poem/song while driving there was either creepy/emo/fucked up/stupid or a conbination of all four.
I still think this game has wasted potential all over it.
Soooo, Im finished with this, and on the same day rumours and vague interviews hint at new single player DLC.
Fuck.
hahaha god why would you want MORE of this game?

I honestly dont know...maybe a part of me still gives Schaefer enough good faith that a new DLC will fix it? ( i know, i know...im hopeless)
Damn him.
It is really too bad that EA chose this Schaefer game to spend a ton of advertising on. If Psychonauts got the same treatment by a big publisher we might actually be playing a sequel instead of this mediocre crap.
I was so looking forward to this game and fell in love with it when I played the demo. And it's very telling when you look back at the demo and realize that there's no RTS in it. I understand if a game can't show me every gameplay element (I was shocked and delighted at how much Arkham Asylum opened up beyond its solid demo), but Brutal Legend apparently showed every element EXCEPT the RTS. That's deceptive and it's very telling that on some level not even they believed in it.

I'm probably going to trade this in after reading what you all thought because I know folks like Millette are being completely honest in their criticism and genuinely wanted this game to be good (as did I; Psychonauts is the greatest). Yeah, it's funny and it has a cool aesthetic but I can see those in movies and movies don't cost $60 (albeit I got mine as a review copy that came two weeks late; you know, when an attempt to warn everyone would be completely useless).

Taking this to Toys R Us tomorrow where it still has a $30 trade-in-value.
Just beat it,not a bad game at all.It could use a little more diversity with the side quests and it would have been nice to be able to jump but other than that, not bad at all.Oh,and the soundtrack is fucking amazing.

Hell, now Im glad I traded the game; why cant they just admit the MP part of the game just doesnt work/tempt people?

Being one of the few chewers who really loves the game, I find the DLC to be a bit disappointing.

I played the MP for a while against the AI and enjoyed it. I was playing uit against 'Normal' AI and found that pretty challenging. However, a few new MP maps from a DLC aren't going to draw me back.

I'd rather play a different single player game (currently Batman AA) than keep doing Brutal Legend MP battles.

Inthe SP, I still have serpents to find in the main game, but I've finished all the missions. I'd like to see more things to do (specifically battles rather than scavenger hunts) for people who've finished the game.

Goddamit. I'd like some more single-player content, but it appears as if that's too much. Instead we get more multiplayer maps, a secret GPS, and a goddam BEARD?!?

I think a lot of this stuff would be cool IF the core gameplay was having meat added to it.

For instance, the other day the loading image changed to a 'dime' in honor of Dimebag Darrel's death. Cool that they'd take the time to do it. Not so cool if people aren't playing the game.

I actually gave online a whirl yesterday and found it very laggy (me being in Australia, that happens a bit) and basically unplayable. So yeah, my future with this game requires more SP content.
Picked up the DLC. It's very hard to recommend to someone who isn't heavinly into multiplayer. The secret identifier 'Oculus' is handy to get the 100% completion with the serpents, landmarks, jumps, etc. I did enjoy driving around listening to the soundtrack again and finishing that stuff off.

The outfits and stuff might have been worth a laugh in the original game, but are pointless now.

I'll still hoping there'll be some meaty SP DLC down the line.
There's so much fucking trial and error in this game I want to belt out a death metal scream the likes of which has never been heard.
I must have died 5 times in the Halo-inspired getaway(when there are giant beasts falling from the sky and wrecking shit), just because I couldn't find where the path continued and was promptly demonmurdered.

Also, I've won all my stage battles by luck. I think.

Glad I'm borrowing this.
