Came across this article at Comics 101 where they discuss who they think the definitive artist for each of the main Marvel and DC characters is. They make an excellent point regarding it usually being the artist who was drawing the character when they were first exposed to it. Anyway, thought it might be a fun topic for discussion. Here's some of mine:
Spiderman -- I'll agree with the article on Ross Andru. I had so many issues he did when I was a kid, that's the way I see Spiderman, not McFarlane's contortionist.
Fantastic Four -- John Byrne, hands down. No disrespect to Kirby, but even now, when I think of the FF, it's with the dark Negative Zone uniforms.
Batman -- Hard to argue with Jim Aparo. He was one of the few artists to make the ears on the mask not look goofy, and he gave Batman a fluid grace that made him seem more like a martial arts master than a tough brawler like Miller popularized.
Superman -- I'd probably go with Curt Swan, just because he seemed to have done every single Superman comic I read when I was a kid. But I do think Byrne did a great job on the character as well.
Conan -- One the article didn't touch on, and here, you can't touch John Buscema.
