That is amazing. Also amazing that the guy appears to have been in the Showcase Showdown with Lawrence Taylor.

The Price is Right hates black people.

That made me laugh more than it should.

That seems highly unlikely.

Yeah, Carey's reaction is perplexing.

Since 72 or 73? How do you not get more than a little excited at that?

Jesus, has Carrey gotten addicetd to valium or something?

Either that or he's saving his energy for his next sojourn to the Playboy mansion.

He does seem to love this job.

ETA: They never do put her bid up, which, coupled with her quizzical expression, makes me laugh uproariously.

I wonder if a few of the contestants have been there the whole show?

After watching a few of these videos, it seems like Drew's MO is to just repeat whatever he's saying over and over again, while remaining expressionless.

They can't. There's only room for four numbers!

Considering how many shows there have been, I doubt it goes against the statistics at all.

If not Bob Barker then Ryan Seacrest or John Henson.

Isn't that what he did the last few seasons of The Drew Carrey Show anyway?

I saw a story about this at Huffington Post. Someone posted this in the comments section. Could be B.S., but it might explain why Drew was so subdued:

huffpo really needs to add something in the original article about the controversy surrounding this. here's mrbrown2195's comment from a little while ago, copied and pasted:

"Before everybody starts bashing Drew, let me give you a little insight as to why he was so not excited. There was an obsessive fan in the audience (a member of a particular TPiR fansite) who has managed to memorize just about every prize given away on the show."

"This fan met Terry and proceeded to give him every bid for the show - Terry got his item to come up on stage exactly right, lost his pricing game (admittedly the fan's fault), and got the perfect bid for the showcase from this particular fan."

"Before the showcase's price was revealed, there was a 15-45 minute stop down. Standards & Practices wanted to review the show and its audience to make sure nothing fishy was going on. Drew was informed as to what was going on and knew Terry had made a perfect bid. In fact, according to some in the know, CBS wasn't even going to air this episode!"

some people might not like drew carey as host ... and that's fine. just don't base it on this one clip. he's bummed out because he knows his show was swindled. that sucks, and he knows it, and i would have the same reaction as him in this particular situation.

Really? So there's like an equivalent to counting cards for Showcases? Seems like that would be impossible somehow ...
If that's true then that is some genuine Ralph Fiennes chicanery.
I'll buy it. The guy looks out in the audience, turns around and offers an exact number with almost no hesitation. It just doesn't seem like natural behavior given the circumstances.

I imagine you watch enough episodes, you can figure out where they get their prices from, figure out what kind of prizes they are most likely to offer, and do a bit of research a few days before you go to a taping (or bring your iPhone along). The producers can't exactly make up a number for each prize.

While the exact bid conspiracy is interesting, it doesn't really explain Carey's (non)reaction because as pointed out in this thread already, he does it in EVERY show.

You can blase about some things, Drew, but not The Showcase Showdown!

Maybe I'm a tad too cynical but this was a nagging suspicion from the beginning.

Now who's going to link to the conspiracy that provides an explanation for Drew's incapacity to be an engaging host?
None of this excuses Drew's reaction. So someone (not even the contestants on stage) beat the shoddy system TPiR set up. Regardless any host worth his $7M salary should be able to sell the situation.
I think I've watched maybe three episodes since Drew took over. Just not entertaining to watch anymore. Needs more confusion.
