First episode is online here.

Thank you.
Thanks! Basically every other show I watch has been canceled or is off the air until January, so this is welcome. I hope a lot more people discover Conchords this season.
I dug it.

"Why did you come Doug, if you didn't want to light a fire?"

Not really a knockout episode, but any Conchords is a good, good thing.
And Brett's woven pants were fantastic.
Good episode, but no where near the quality of anything last season. Hope next episode is better. Best bit was Jermaine's cut out jacket.
God I love this show.

"Oh no I'm not. Oh no I did it again!"

What the fuck is with all this 'US only' web content?

A pox on all of you! *goes back to watching the live and superior version of The Humans are Dead on youtube*
post #10 of 75
I love that series! Jenny is fantastic.
to anyone who successfully helps me circumvent the US Only bollocks - I will lightly fellate you.

His name's Jemaine.

Weak first episode.

To anyone who may be interested, my friend singer-songwriter James Eric has an ongoing project where he'll be covering Flight of the Conchords songs. I believe he's going to be covering new songs as the appear on the show.
So, as a songwriter your friend's project is to sing songs written by two other people, something that is done enough on youtube.

Creative.
The songs were only ok but I didn't really see much decline in quality for the rest of it. The toothpaste plot is basically a reworked version of the Whamby storyline from the radio series, and isn't nearly as good, but that's only noticable to people who've heard it of course.

Second episode was much better than the first, although neither have reached the highs of last season. I did like Jemaine giving Mel a massage in front of her husband, Dave's portion of the "Sugar Balls" rap, and the Nigerian guy actually showing up.

I agree, I think the second episode was definitely superior. The songs are still a bit of a letdown, but I guess that's to be expected, since they already had a great backlog of songs at their disposal for season one.

And I loved Mel during the massage scene. She's a real cutiepie.
Gotta agree that the writing and improv are as strong as ever, but the songs are a step down from last year. Loved the Nigerian scolding Bret for pimping out Jermaine and the whole square one/square two bit at the end.
I'm in agreement with everyone else, a much better episode than the premiere. In one of the HBO promos for the show they talked about having to write shows based around the songs last season, but this time being able to write songs based around the show, and it's pretty apparent the songs are hurting while the show is stronger.

Just caught the third episode. Something of a reversal of recent fortunes I thought, in that the musical interludes were highlights while the rest of the show was a bit iffy - I much enjoyed the Magnolia and West Side Story parodies, plus the extra attention the supporting characters are getting.

The West Side stuff was great, as well as the "I have hurt feelings" double whammy.
I'm not on the same plain as most of you...I think this season has been great. Rather than just doing the exact same thing, they've actually grown the show.
I haven't heard "just pulling your tit" in years. That was glorious. Whole episode was brilliance. Jemaine's interactions when he's cornered alone with Mel are so good.
I liked this last episode, "Murray Takes It To The Next Level," though I hope they realize they're not contractually obligated to have songs (or are they?). If the funny's in a different direction, they should move beyond their initial gimmick. A lot of HBO shows did: SFU had those fake commercials, Dream On had the old movie clips.

Mel looks really nice with long hair. Murray standing up for his friend/reminding them of the band meeting was kind of touching.
I wasn't a huge fan of Mel's song, but I really dug this past episode. The whole bit with Murray drawing the graph and Bret and Gemaine ending up as "strangers" cracked me the hell up. "My name's Murray Hewitt. You'll have to sign in at the desk downstairs."

Also, I didn't realize that was Jim Gaffigan until the end credits. His Hot Pocket bit is one of my all-time favorite stand up routines.

I can't understand watching this show and thinking, "They don't do need to do songs all the time."
There sure are a lot of "Best of Comedy Central" guys (Arj Barker, Todd Barry, Jim Gaffigan, others) on this show. I guess the FOTC guys played a lot of clubs with these people. Man, do I ever loathe Jim Gaffigan's act. He does this whispery, high pitched "funny voice" in a lot of his bits, and it drives me nuts.

Hurt Feelings was great. My birthday, 2003/waiting for a call from my family
post #34 of 75
Loved the Magnolia homage with Hurt Feelings
post #35 of 75
Jim Gaffigan and his questions were hilarious, when he sat down at the BBQ. Definitely a hilarious cameo.

Yeah, really. I love the songs.
I like the songs as much as the next guy, but my biggest laughs are always at the dumb conversations. The venom with which Murray asked Jermaine how he liked a taste of his own "dick medicine" just killed me.

Best ep of the season. Two fantastic videos and a perfectly modulated story. They should hire Gondry to do every episode - this is totally in his ballpark.
Sheer fucking brilliance from start to finish. Laughed my ass off throughout the entire episode.

In unrelated news, my Australian wife is no longer a FOTC fan.
That's what you get marrying one of them dirty Aussies, NZ.

I think this was fave episode this season as well.

The music videos in particular were probably 2 of the best they've ever done.
So good. Certainly my fave ep of the season.
Gondry was probably the reason Bret was making gloves that looked like hands.

That was Kate Warner from the second season of 24.

I assume that there's no stereotype that Australians are extremely dirty, and that that was just thrown in there for good measure.
Awwwwwww Jemaine got a rejected form.
Gondry and this show were made for each other.
By far the best of the seasons. Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor was an incredible song, and who here wouldn't mind being robbed by a cute Aussie?
Gondry directed? No wonder this was my favorite episode yet. Loved every minute of it, but particularly Jemaine's girlfriend song. The lyrics plus visuals were just amazing.

In this past ep, the ongoing back and forth of Bret saying "She may have subtly mocked Jemaine's accent" and Jemaine repeating "She may have mocked my accent subtly" just got me every time.
I loved how he carefully navigates through the hanging beads when he's trying to escape from Keitha's apartment. What a great episode.
"What did it sound like?"
"...Like an evil version of our accent."

It warms my heart that the message of Interracial Hole-Stretchers 2 managed to penetrate Dave's icy exterior.
I'm glad they left Mel out this week. I'd like her character more if it didn't push the same joke over and over.
