The Majesty of Tom Cruise

I haven't seen a celebrity promote themselves with such obvious propaganda before. Usually there is a film tie-in or something. But apparently His People, those disciples of increasing box office returns, are even aware of CHUD on which to spread their gospel; it's surprising they didn't realize the great unwashed fans of the likes of Bruce Campbell have less to spare for Hollywood's elite than the social climbers of TMZ.com - the banners even fail to mention Cruise's "Valkyrie", the latest sacrament to his cult of mass appeal.

While the actor and self-spokesman has Scientology to embrace, we are left with little more than a web link to appraise his vanity, shone upon us to promote a religion we can't afford, and occasionally act in pictures to show us how the self-righteousness of himself and his great Prophet L. Ron Hubbard have led to his humbling success. Oh, I feel so pathetic

Er, if it is someone unrelated to Tom Cruise's publicist paying for advertising on here, well, that is more disturbing than anything I can come up with...

I think he might be referring to a TomCruise.com banner ad. Still not Chewer related though.

Ah...good. I was hoping Nick wasn't dressing up in a Cruise nick trolling for hits or something.

He's been advertising his site online for months now.

I'm not 100% sure what the problem is. It's his way of controlling his brand.

Yeah, I never understood people who are critical of a celebrity who wants to take charge of their "brand". I'm more surprised that Cruise did not do this sooner.

I'm just amused by how naked his attempts are at being seen more positively in the public eye.

I don't see how his website is that naked an attempt. Many famous people have official websites.

Will Smith works the media the same exact way Cruise does. He's just more easy-going, hence we don't notice it as much. Both he and Cruise use that horrible fake laugh during every interview. That creeps me out.

So what is it that brought this specific example to the forefront for me, aside from being amused and disturbed at most celebrities' public relations? I'll have to ruminate over this, when work ends..

EDIT: Something's wrong when Tom Cruise is making you question your own sanity.
