And yet another thing I will not be buying.

Will the commentary consist of "The hell was I thinking?". Will there be an explnation of the point of Ducktits?

This deserves an answer. More so than WTF happened to Jeffrey Jones.
Awesome. I'll be picking this up. It's got Lea Thompson at her hottest. And Jeffrey Jones as THE OVERLORD! Haha.
I can't believe that I actually saw this movie in the theaters.
I remember hot Leah Thompson. And I remember that lame fucking theme song. And I remember I LOVED this when I was a kid.

Other than that I've completely forgotten everything about it. I'm kind of curious as to whether or not it even needs revisiting.

Who knew that Dark Overlord of the Universe meant pedophile in an alien space language. Thank you Jeffrey Jones!

What????
Jeff = pedophile
I gathered that; I guess I'll need to do a google search on this.

There you go. I still love him as Rooney, but that's it.
He'll always be Rooney and the King in 'Amadeus'.

I saw this at a free screening. Even won a t-shirt, which I think sat in the bottom of a drawer for three or four years before being donated to Goodwill, where some poor kid probably ended up getting beat up once a week for wearing it.

I remember being disappointed that there wasn't nearly as much Hot Leah Thompson as I would have liked.
Actually, Jeffrey Jones being a pedophiles gives a whole new meaning to Rooney's relentless hunt of Ferris Bueller.

Well, there was more of it in Howard the Duck than it Casual Sex.

Martin! You sounded like Dirty Harry just there.

DEADWOODDEADWOODDEADWOODDEADWOOD.

Granted, he's like the 20th best thing on that show, but he's still been a part of one of the best things to ever happen on TV.

There was more of it in Jaws 3D than in Casual Sex.

I've often said it puts a whole new creepy spin on the "Your ass is mine" line.''

And yes, he was great in Deadwood, but then so was every member of the cast, so it's hard to single someone out.

If you want hot Lea Thompson, skip this and watch All the Right Moves.

This is absolute gospel.

On topic, while much of Howard is dire, I do love Jones' performance and the eventual, stop-motion reveal of the Dark Lord of the Universe.

The funny thing is that some Hipster Asshole would have paid you good money for that thing.

I really hate to admit this but I went to the premiere of this fowl piece of work. But I sat a couple rows behind John Cusack who punched his fist in the air and cheered a few times throughout the film. Go figure.

I always thought it was funny how heavily attached George Lucas was to this until it started bombing at early screenings and then it was all Huyck/Katz's fault.

Best thing: Lea Thompson's tight ass wrapped in tighter white panties, crawling on her hands and knees, begging for bestiality.

Worst thing: "Cleeeeve-land."

By the way, if there was ever a Lucasfilm that deserved to be Special Edition-ized with new digital effects and re-editing, it was this one. Would anyone really have a problem with them replacing the dwarf in a suit with a full CG Howard? It couldn't possibly make things worse. (I don't think.)

Schwing!

I think my Howard the Duck t-shirt was actually a regular t-shirt with an iron-on I got somewhere. And I used to air-guitar to the "Howard the Duck" song all the time, and relentlessly pursued the soundtrack, just for that. Man, I was more of a geek than I remember being.

And yeah, I'll probably pick this up. I re-watched it on Encore a few months back, and damned if I didn't record it and watch it from the beginning. I remember walking out going, "Did I like that? Or did it suck? I'm not sure."

What next? A Special Edition of "The Star Wars Holiday Special"?
YouTube video of that scene;

I completely blocked off this movie from my memory because I didn't remember that part.

Ducktits! Woo Hoo!
This is what happens when you lose Internet service for a month, you miss out on gems like this.

First poster I ever owned. First comic I collected. Had the novel. Still a fan of Thomas Dolby. Just found the soundtrack online.

Granted, I was seven when I last saw the movie, but damn if I'm not at least considering picking it up for a chuckle...
I know it's obvious, but man Lea Thompson's gorgeous in that picture.
Movie sucks. Lea Thompson sucks.
Can we get Anderson to review this? I can't wait for the eventual 9.8 score.
The immortal Chip Zien is in this!

I remember, with brutal clarity, how mad I was for the Howard the Duck collector cards that came out just before the movie. You'd get a few cards with pictures from the film and a stick of pink, flavorless gum in each pack.

This is one of those films that seems to age better in my memory than actually being watched.

I'd check this out on the condition that they include some behind-scenes of Lea Thompson. (and NO, that's not a typo)

I wouldn't pay good money, but I'd wear it. And none of my pants are skinny-legged.

You don't think I know that? Every day since this was announced, I wake up and look at my calendar, only to feel a profound sense of disappointment when I discover that it is not yet March 10.

All things must pass.

I'm just waiting for Thomas Dolby to announce a new tour in connection with the DVD release. Hunger City '09
post #48 of 74
Definitely doesn't hold up. It's actually more creepy now that i'm older, which is strange.
Oh, it's unquestionably bad. There's something off-putting about the way BULLIES keep popping up to harass the heroes for no good reason (this is a staple of Huyck/Katz scripts); Robbins is irritating as hell; the duck suit sucks.

Part of the creep factor is probably due to the adult-oriented elements (duck tits, mini-condom); there aren't quite enough of them for the movie to succeed as an underground entertainment, but they're sufficient to render it inappropriate for wee ones.

On the positive side, the location photography spotlights some undershot areas of San Francisco --including a couple that no longer exist-- and Phil Tippett's stop-motion monster is superb.

So, it's March 10th... who rushed out and bought it?
