The Rules of the CHUD Message Board - Page 2

33. Don't worry, Minsky, most of us got it just fine.
Oddly enough I've been offered a film writing job at an online magazine after typing various reviews on IMDB and the like...cross-posting as described earlier by Devin...the problem was that I don't live in Chicago. But I understand why that's not the best way to go.

Also, it's difficult not to preface a post with "Someone may have said this earlier, but..." when the thread is over five pages long. Either that, or one lacks the dedication to become a regular, well-socializing Chewer and that rule is this site's way of sifting through the great morass of web users.

I'm definitely guilty of sharing too much information and too early.

It's a matter of applying how you interact with people in day-to-day life to the web, if you are an otherwise well-balanced human being...take what you will from my self-depricating user name...when you're browsing hreads everywhere, there's a tendency to think they're also speaking to you, when in fact it's an overheard conversation, to which you drop your two cents in accordingly.

Ugh, I stick by what I've said on these boards, just rather wish I didn't bother saying some of it to begin with. So I've offered this confessional in the fashion of Dan Baker.

Sorry, I thought one of the rules said we were only allowed to make funny jokes.

My bad.

And do correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we all agreed to certain rules when signing up.

34. Don't hide behind the 1st amendment if you say something obviously hateful and stupid, this is not a democratic system and the admins can, and very likely will, ban you for you're whatever your guilty of. And don't complain about it being unfair either, dems the rules.

35. If you read someone's post and think it's utterly inane, give the post another careful read. You may have misread it or read something into the post that the poster did not mean at all. Do all that before you decide to post some response to it. This is an innocent mistake we can all make.

As a corrollary, for life generally: the 1st amendment is not a protection against mockery, criticism, or bullying. If you don't like that people are laying into you, stand it like a man, and give some back.

35A. And even consider that the post was made ironically/sarcastically, before flying off the handle. It is the CHUD MBs, after all.

27b. If you percieve the "culture" to be like that formed by the boys in "Lord of the Flies", don't join in.

36. Don't discuss old flicks in "Focused Film Discussion". Yes, everything that isn't recent or upcoming IS old.
Inspired by BrianM's Brick bumping, in which he could only find the crappy thread for that movie. There was a better one in existence, but it wasn't revealing itself easily through the normal means.

There's already an entry on this list about using google, and it's very very great. Almost everything can be found through the ol "[search terms] site:chud.com/forum" method. But some things can't, and sometimes there's an even easier way:

37. Pay attention to the "Similar Threads" section at the bottom of the page.

If you find one thread on a topic, but you know there's a better one, scroll down and chances are the link awaits you.

38. Don't bitch about McCartney's sig. We all know it sucks. We all know it's annoying. The time has come to move on.
Amen. At least the guy's a quality poster.

39. Don't defend McCartney's posting. It outs you as a poor member of this community.

40. If you have to explain that a thread you're starting is not a bait thread, you're probably known for making bait threads.

41. If you think every thread I make is a bait thread, you probably are very butthurt about something I said a long time ago and that I likely don't even remember typing.

Actually, because most people are inherently narcissistic, many people think things are about them when they aren't. It's why so many threads called baiting turn into a slobs vs. snobs debate.

Fuck you, Dellamorte. My threads are just fine.

The "pre-release" threads seem a bit redundent. If there is actual info on a movie (casting news, a photo or a trailer) there's probably a article on the main page, and a thread to discuss it.

This is rules, not suggestions.

And that suggestion isn't being taken. Thanks anyway.

It's sort of like suggesting you should keep your pants, shirts, shoes, skirts, blouses, neckerchiefs, wool sweaters, cashmere sweaters, pajamas and berets all in separate closets.

Reading this thread I can't help but get the feeling I'm main offender numeral uno.

You must have an interesting closet, JB.
