BTW, I had also never heard of Sunny Day before this. Thanks,
I kinda like their sound.

Note that SDRE's sound changed pretty significantly between their first two albums and last two (recorded after a hiatus of a couple years). The early stuff is a little more jagged and gets by on raw nerve and (especially on the second one) interesting rhythmic experiments and stops. The later stuff (
How It Feels To Be Something On and
The Rising Tide) is much bigger and atmospheric - kind of their version of U2's late-80s output. All of their albums are worth hearing, though.
I know that Paramore's name-dropped them as a big influence and covered one of their later songs (to not-so-great effect, actually). You can mostly hear them in the playing (especially the drums), not so much the songwriting, although I think Jimmy Eat World is the obvious middle-ground between the two. Which is probably true of most bands that now get called emo, a label originally applied to SDRE as well as to even earlier, less pop-oriented bands.
