Damn fine filmmaking by Herzog. The opening to the film is iconic. Kinski really takes it up a notch, by not actually acting insane, and instead gives us this quiet menace that Herzog says he got by making Kinski get mad and have a tantrum before actually shooting a scene with him. The raft scenes towards the end are madness unleashed. Interesting that it's essentially Hearts Of Darkness before Apocalypse Now did it.
