Going to do quite a few of these if things go well. Just too many goddamn games!

First, Spore and LittleBigPlanet- http://chud.com/articles/articles/17...NET/Page1.html

I've only played the first world but I agree that LBP is really good. I don't know how much I'll use the level creator but the couple user-created levels I played were fun and I've heard the Media Molecule levels are shining examples of old-school platforming.

Yeah, I don't see myself using the creation mode too much. But enough people are making crazy things out of it that we can play, so I'm good. I got kinda sick of it after playing it for a whole week, but I'll probably pop it in every once in a while to see what's new. Media Molecule's site is pretty good for pointing out innovative levels and such.

Next up- Fracture and Mercs 2-

Good article, but you need to turn up the vitriol on the final three months of the year video game release madness.

Mercs 2 is pretty fun, I'm a sucker for almost anything played out in the tropics and the environment is fucking awesome, at least as compelling as anything in the GTA-verse. The destruction is also super fun, the feeling of the explosions is done almost perfectly.

The gameplay is very fun too, only suffering from dumb things like your player's Wolverine-like superfast regenerating health and (on PC) the odd auto-aiming pain in the ass. The crashes seem like about once every two or three hours of gametime, like it's telling you to take a break and go to the actual outside.

Wasn't a fan of Fracture at all and Mercs 2 was sold after I was sick of dealing with bugs.

Edit- As someone who picked the game up pretty recently- there really weren't too many bugs to be found, but the ones that were there were pretty irritating. Still, it's the kinda of game that I wouldn't mind getting knocked back to a savepoint.

Yeah, just blowing shit up in the game is quite satisfying. I love that they they turned the codes on, because once you finish the game it's a thrill to get everyone against you and have to fight everywhere you go.

I can't complain THAT much. Both of the games I wrote about are already 40 bucks brand new, so it pays for us. Stupid for them, though.

Sure, you can pick up the single player campaigns and give them awhirl anytime, but I would definitely say that multiplayer focus and continuity suffers from so many titles hitting the market simultaneously.

You could always get them at Gamestop used, play them for about 4 days, review them, and then return them for full credit.

Not that I've ever done that.

For some of these games, you deserve that sort of a reward if you can power through them in four days. Far Cry 2, for example, is on my back burner due to what looks like the imminent onslaught of crushing difficulty.

Oh it's not a matter of not being able to afford them that's a problem (we've been getting a bunch of review copies) , it's just having the time to play them all! I still haven't even played Gears 2.

Overlord- I agree with what you're saying about the multiplayer but I don't usually play that many multiplayer games as it is. Usually just pick one or two to play for a few months till everyone else has moved on.

I can see people playing Left 4 Dead for a looong time, though.

My sister got me a copy of Left 4 Dead for the 360 this Christmas. I already own the PC version. Says a lot about the game that I seriously considered keeping it.

I didn't tho. Returned it and put the proceeds towards Saint's Row 2 and Far Cry 2. Incidentally... at the store I went to (EB Games in Canada) and a few other places I've seen online, Far Cry 2 is already down to $39.99. Seems like a steal for a game that new from what I heard about it. It was a total impulse buy but I'm looking forward to it.

The end of year rush seemed a lot more intense this year. Last year I finished most of the games I got... this year not so much. Fallout 3, Fable 2, Gears 2 and Prince of Persia sit woefully incomplete While I Dead Space and L4D til my eyes bleed.
