Forty years ago, three men wished the world a merry Christmas from some 230,000 miles from home. I'm the furthest thing from religious, but I get how seeing your home as a tiny speck in a sea of black can make you think about where all this came from.
1968 wasn't a great year (especially considering it was the year I was born), but for one moment, three men striving for great things held the attention of the world, and gave everyone a little hope. It's something that I don't think can happen today, because we don't seem to want to strive for great things anymore. Maybe that will change.
I think I'll pop in the "1968" episode from Hanks' From the Earth to the Moon tonight. Seems appropriate.
