Sorry...I can't edit the thread. Sarah is a pop girl :P

We should add some Katy Perry here.

You can edit your post so there's not an NSFW pic in it, then.

That's what you get with the NME. The British have their own universe of shitty pop stars and TV celebrities. It's like picking up a DC comic if you'd only been aware of Marvel your entire life.

On topic she is hot anyway, and I deleted that pic.

P.J. Harvey and Hayley Williams anyone? I don't read the NME, but these names should be synonymous with any discussion of attractive women in music.

Laura Veirs too, actually.

Remember when you didn't have to look like a glamour model to be a female singer?

If it's a choice between these mindlessly pretty glorified fucking lingerie models and their 'music' and the likes of Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith et al, I know which way Im listening.

But I'm old fashioned that way in that I couldn't give a flying fuck what a musical performer looks like as long as their music's awesome.

...video really did kill the radio star it seems.

Ever since I left high school I have absolutely no knowledge of the music business anymore. The first time I'd heard of Katy Perry was in Spike Marshall's thread about I Kissed A Girl.

Gaybe I'd argue thats a good, nay GREAT thing.

It's a magazine reader poll. We often see what kind of stupid lists they come up with when it comes to movies, but that doesn't mean cinema is going to hell. I wouldn't worry too much about the state of music from this.

And not that it matters, but there are some good, smart people who happen to have been picked for that list - Gwenno, Feist, Jenny Lewis - in addition to the boring pop stars.
Besides Ms Minogue (and Beyonce), who the fuck ARE all these girls?!

Oh wait, the Allen bird. I know her - she does a song on Dizzee's last album.
I wouldn't mind showing #3, Jenny Lewis, my Power Glove. It's so bad.

I don't know what kinda browser you're using, but those pics aren't making any sounds at all over here, so I'm good.

If you're refering to Sarah Harding then she's part of Girls Aloud one of the only long term success stories of Simon Cowell's X-Factor/Pop Idol shows. Say what you want about the show itself but she's not just some glamour model who got a singing career.

Also most of the girls on the NME list are hardly supermodel stunning, a lot of them are very pretty but for the majority it's a mousey sort of pretty.

She might not be on NME's list, but Zooey Deschanel gets my vote.

Jesus Christ it's like she's trying to burn a hole into my soul with those eyes. Also how is she music related?

She is on the list.
Katy Perry's 24?! She looks like she's over 30.
I don't know who Hayley Williams is, but she's fucking gorgeous, no?
Isn't she the lead singer in Paramour? Jesus, I'm spending way too much time watching MTV. However she's a little young for my tastes, I know she's 19 but she looks about 15.

She's put a out a record with M Ward in a project called She and Him.

Complaining about the musical talent of these women does seem slightly odd.

At least they aren't calling them fat or too skinny.

How have I not known about Rachel Yamagata until now?

That she is. Paramore, regardless of whether or not you like them, have the most memorable pop-rock female singer since Gwen Stefani.

Also, I share your love of Dublin. Good call.

She's not that young looking, man. Hardly in Alexis Bledel, 'Gilmore Girls' territory (youngest looking college senior ever.)

The complaint isn't that hot chicks can't be talented, it's that a woman can no longer make it in the music industry without being hot, regardless of how talented she may be. Joplin and Franklin would never make it if they had to enter the business today.
That's silly. The Trainwreck has done fine for herself, personal issues aside. Sure you can manage a quick success with a quirky provocative track and by flashing some skin, being beautiful - but longevity and success relies more often on talent. Familiarity and publicity isn't what i'd consider a reward - it's just helpful in promoting crap.

Thank you Greg - that was all I was really ranting about.

Rachel Yamagata is a great singer

Hayley Williams looks like she's ten-years-old. She's a cute kid, but I find nothing "hot" about her.

That said, a list without Colbie Caillat is nonsense:

Thanks. Good job.

Just for the record, I'm not some sort of Perry apologist, I just like giving credit where it's due.

How sinister is it to live wherever a 10 year old can look (and be) ten years older? That said, the main picture of Caillat on her official site makes her look very much like Ashley Tisdale. Not wholly disagreeable, just nothing vastly unique about her.

The names mentioned here are quite surprising, in some ways.

Longevity isn't an issue. The issue is that they don't even get their first break unless they can make the boys drool.

I submit Amanda Palmer.

Emmy the Great!

I just want to touch her face.

She's wicked sexy, although I suspect she would probably cannibalize me after mating. Which is fine.

C'mon guys? No one got the balls to post what we've all been thinking?

Everything but the Girl's Tracey Thorn aka Sex on legs.

or Roxette (both of them)

Seriously, theres not many singers that come close to Kate bush in her prime especially in that Babooshka video.

Are you gay? Seriously.
Ayup? You mean you don't appreciate Thorn and Roxette's sloping chins and dopey-looking eyes?
