An old King Kong game

Help me, Chewers! There's an old King Kong game - not video game - where you have to put chains on Kong. He's spring activated or something and will bust out of the chains if you do it wrong.

All I find when I look up Kong games is video games.

No, but that's a cool game I used to have.

How old are we talking here Dev? Late 70's-early 80's?

Cause your description's ringing big bells for me

Probably 80s. It's not a board game - It's got a Kong figure and you're plugging plastic chains into holes, but if you hit the wrong hole he jumps up.

Or maybe it was Frankenstein? No.... pretty sure it was Kong.

Sound like it was Kong, I found one other guy looking for it too (but nobody answered);

I got a toy in the early 80's that I can't remember the name of. It was a rubber/plastic King Kong type ape who you had chained back against a wall with yellow plastic chains, which plugged into the toy backing using 2 inch posts. The point of the game was to either keep inserting chains or removing them (I can't remember which), but he broke free if you did them in the wrong order. Does anyone have a clue which toy this was?

Not this one, but just posting it because I've never seen it (remote control Kong!)

Is it any of these?

(and one thing this tread has done is teach me how much merchandising crap came out in the wake of the '76 remake)

Probably not this one either ...

You sure it was King Kong and not a generic gorilla?
post #13 of 21
Devin, I definitely did have this game as a child. You had to criss cross the chains across the gorilla in the correct order or he popped out of them. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore or remember if it was official Kong merch or a generic ape. It had to have come out in the mid 80s since I got it new as kid.

Digging around off and on today, because it does sound familiar. No dice, but this looks cool:

I found this: http://thegalleryofmonstertoys.com/7...stuffrank.html.

You pump up Frank's chest and he rises from the table. No luck on Kong in chains... yet.
