Time Warner might drop Viacom Channels New Year's Day

Thread Starter
well I woke up and turned on NOGGIN for my son and saw this scrolling along the bottom.

That TWC and Viacom can't reach an agreement and TWC would drop all of Viacom's cable channels.

READ HERE

This will suck since my son watches Nickelodeon and Noggin... but if this happens I'm calling the cable company and demanding they LOWER my cable bill.

I just heard about this, also. It's been awhile since I've felt like burning down all Time Warner offices to the ground and killing all their families, so it was about time. I gots to have my Daily Show and Colbert.

And yet one of the many reasons I don't have a cable hook up outside of the internet.

Enjoy your dick mesauring contest you two mega-billion corporations you.

Shit. I just switched back to TW after AT&T fucked me with a botched attempt to install U-verse and their subsequent fucking terrible customer service. My main reasoning for TW over DirecTV/Dish was all of the free Noggin on demand stuff for my kids. This sucks, though everyone knows any impasse will be temporary. They need each other. Viacom will be back on in 6 weeks or less I bet.

Damn, this affects Bright House too. AT&T needs to hurry up and bring U-Verse to our area.

What's funny is that who would affect this more? TW or Viacom? Seeing how TW is one of the biggest cable operators. I would think this would shoot Viacom in the foot big time.

Time Warner (the networks, not the cable provider side) went through this with Comcast a couple of years ago. There was a lot of similar posturing, and a settlement at the 11th hour. Bottom line is this: Viacom can't afford to lose their cable operator fees (which are more important in this soft ad market) and Time Warner Cable can't afford the loss of subscribers. They'll settle.

They will both huff and puff but the whole thing will probably be resolved within the week.

I remember the same thing happened a few years ago when I had Dish Network; it seemed like we were only without Comedy Central for a couple of days.

It would be nice if Comedy would broadcast in HD

Because Strangers with Candy deserves to be seen in crystal clear clarity.

If I have HD fucking Family Guy available to me, I should have South Park too. Guinea Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1080p, bitches.

I've been seeing HD family guy too, but I have all the DVDs and they are in 4:3 and looks like what I've been seeing is widescreen formatted. I don't think the picture is being stretched on the broadcasts?

Was family guy originally cropped to 4:3?

Animation is typically full frame.

Glad I've got Comcast ... and that the MLB Network is already up and running in my channel lineup (though original programming doesn't start till tomorrow).

That's what I figured. I thought was going to have to buy the set all over again to get the original aspect.

No, I have the first two sets. It's full frame. Television for the most part is shot full frame. I figure it's a recent thing that tv and even animation has been shot wide.

My guess is the recently completed season of THE SHIELD is the last live-action TV show I'll ever watch in first-run that's 4:3. Pretty much everything is shot 16X9 these days. (With some animation -- as you guys discussed -- being one notable exception.)

On TBS, it's stretched. On Cartoon Network, it's slightly cropped. Surprisingly, neither channel looks particularly bad, though.

12:40am Eastern and we've still got all the Viacom channels.

EDIT: Ah, apparently Viacom has given Time Warner a one-hour extension.

DirecTV.
Well, both sides made nice, so the channels didn't get dropped. And to top it off, Bright House finally came to an agreement with Fox Sports Florida to carry the channel, which means people in Orlando can finally watch all the Orlando Magic games on TV.

Anyone else in the LA area get error 403 when accessing on-demand?

Old news now, but found this funny ad with Viacom's cartoon characters begging for a raise ...

Love the look on Boots.
