I guess not that obscure but hasn't been mentioned...but Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock is an amazing film.

The Castle, The Dish, Oscar and Lucinda and Love Serenade all played at my theatre. I still have the poster for Love Serenade. Great soundtrack.

It's pretty damn good, with Urban doing the best work of his career.

Brutal stuff.

Second the love for this. This was on The Sundance Channel a few months ago. Be sure to catch it if they play it again. Not to be confused with another film called Noise, which stars Tim Robbins and William Hurt.

A couple of months ago I saw Kokoda, which is about the Australians fighting the Japanese on Papua New Guinea during WWII. It has its moments, especially early on, but on the whole it didn't do much for me.

Yeah it didn't do such an important battle in our history justice in my opinion (ridiculously out-numbered and basically the last line of defense before the Japanese made landfall in Australia), but I'm biased as my grandfather fought in Kokoda.
