PC action RPG?

I'm in the mood for an action RPG thanks to the announcement of Diablo 3. What's the very best Diabloesque beat em down game out there right now that isn't Diablo 2?

I'm not exactly looking for loot whoring or complicated combat, just something is that FUN.

Wouldn't Fallout apply here?

Not at all. It's not a Diablo experience about combat, so much as it it VATS and crappy shooter gameplay.

Tati might be the best one to answer this question. He's a PC Gamer.

You'll have better luck just waiting for Diablo 3....

what Diablo 3 announcement??

What about Diablo 1?

Unfortunately, on the PC, worthy Diablo rivals are slim. I tried Dungeon Siege, but it just didn't have the magic formula down. None of them did, really. My favorite imitator was Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which I think was consoles only. Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance was fun, but again, consoles.

Id recommend The Witcher to anyone looking for a good PC RPG, though its not really a dungeoun crawler like Diablo, it has some of the same hack and slash(to a lesser extent) combat and the leveling system is kind of along the same lines. Plus they have now released the Enhanced Edition which fixes alot of issues it had while adding alot of new stuff.

I have the Witcher, I bought it a while ago when it came out. To be honest it might just be what I'm looking for. It's not the combat heaving smashing bad guys to dust kind of game I'm looking for, but from what I recall I really like it.

Just be sure to download the enhancements. It's a terrific game.

The Titan's Quest games are fun as well, and you can get them fairly cheap.

Titan's Quest is great for a Diablo fix. If you would prefer something less polished but with an open game world and greater character variation, Sacred 2 is also great. But the enhanced edition of The Witcher is better than both of them. Though it is nothing like Diablo. At all.

Titan's Quest (or, apparently, Sacred 2) is as close as you're gonna get to Diablo. However, The Witcher is cool. For being as childish and immature as it is at times, some of the choices in the game are very cool and subtle, not this black and white, KOTOR/Mass Effect shit. And the opening cinematic is pretty goddamn badass.

Oh, yeah. It's fun to play, too.

Dungeon Seige 2 is worth a pickup from the discount bin. It's a straight-up Diablo 2 clone, having a decent set of skill trees and imaginative monsters. Like Titan Quest, the hacking and grinding get really old after the first two or three acts. Diablo struck a great balance between difficulty and reward, with the right spells/weapons becoming available at just the right time. Its imitators were never able to replicate this.

The Witcher is pretty fucking great as a hack and slashy PC game and you'd probably appreciate the retarded story and copious amounts of sex in the thing. Can't wait for it to hit the 360 so I can play it through properly.

Why would I appreciate a retarded story?

I don't know, but people seem to like Armageddon.

Where's the reg key? To upgrade my copy with the patch they want me to register, and I don't see the key on the manual or the box... Weird.

It should be on the inside front cover of the manual.

Another vote for Titan Quest. You can get it plus the expansion for 15 bucks on steam - and it's worth it. It's a gorgeous Diablo clone set in the ancient world. Who knew that satyrs were the goblins of ancient Greece?

Could everyone please give up with 'The Witcher has a retarded story'? It's certainly not any more stupid than anything but a handful of games.

The inside front cover is a seizure warning and health hazard thing, and then a table of contents. No key. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian.

Hrm, mine has the same warning with the code underneath it halfway down the page. I guess that page is probably completely full for you with the French version as well.

EDIT: Some google searching shows thats its a common problem with the Canadian version but the posts I saw said they were able to email Atari customer support and get a new key with minimal fuss.
